OOC: Sorry, newbie here, didn't realize I needed to respond. Matthias watches Baradock's untimely fall from beside the deck railing, then begins to wander through the herd of sheep, carefully scanning the animals' eyes for any sign of hostile intent and speaking softly in his bass voice. Finally he's lost to sight between the bleating balls of fluff, only to reappear as he climbs onto the back of one of the larger sheep at the middle of the flock. "This is nice cushy ride!" -

The tiny gnome looks up at Nagure with awe and exclaims, in a very small voice, "You're humongous!" Realizing he's just made it awkward, Matthias turns purple under the hood of his cloak and goes back to self-consciously trying to squish his bedroll down into a more manageable package. -

Out of breath and fumbling his newly purchased bedroll, Matthias finally glimpses the rest of the party down at the docks. He runs to meet them. "Hello again, everyone. Sorry I'm late." "I'm Matthias, from Eastgate in Drandora. Definitely pretty new to this questing thing." The tiny ranger looks around at his more experienced companions. "If anyone has some extra-small armor or other gear lying around I'd very much like to borrow it. I was a barber once," the gnome winces slightly and swallows, "and I could trade haircuts for a gear lease if anyone is interested." -
As the group passes out of the hall, Matthias realizes he has no bedroll, no provisions, and no idea what he's gotten himself into. The gnome begs off and runs towards the marketplace with his meager handful of coins, promising to meet the others at the harbor very soon. Matthias buys a potion from Portia's Potion Shack and a bedroll from Gnomeo's Toolshed (where he's soundly rebuffed for playing the race card and trying to get a discount from his fellow gnome), completely depleting his gold. 10 - 5 - 5 = 0.

As each interesting figure enters the hall and calls names into the massed group of heroes, Matthias sits glumly in his chair, his unkempt hair barely visible above the table. How will he ever be selected over so many proven heroes? The gnome, intent on self-pity and a mug of ale much too big for him, almost didn't hear his name called. "Me?!" Matthias almost forgets his crossbow in his haste to fall in line, but trips over it as he hops down from the chair. Picking himself up from the floor and lifting the crossbow gingerly in his arms, he falls into line, looking up into the faces of the taller heroes around him, and follows the mysterious scarecrow out of the hall.

"Wow." As the conversations around the room continue to darken, Matthias wonders what he's gotten himself into. The gnome mutters, "It can't hurt, right?" as he signs up for Quest 81.

Matthias takes a tentative sip, not being a habitual wine drinker, then an appreciative gulp as the quality of Chrassian grapes becomes apparent. Carrying the small goblet which nonetheless appears oversized in his small gnomish hands, he climbs back into the chair, careful not to spill. "I've never been to Charis, or anywhere, really. I'm not even a ranger, truly; I was raised among the gnome barbers of the Eastgate in Drandora. I saw Mount Ulysses from the ship on the crossing to Uland, but this is much farther from home than I've ever travelled before. What is Charis like, other than this excellent wine?"

Matthias stands up to find a drink, but gets caught up listening to the encounter between Guts and Alexandre... Matthias, brimming with interest in exotic places, rushes to find a drink, preferably Charissian wine, but whatever he can get quick and get back to hear the stories will do.

Matthias, nervous and excited by the outburst of events in the hall, can't decide whether to lean forward onto the table for a better view or sink back in his chair to hide. He decides on the latter, and looks around for some liquid courage. "Guts, what do they serve here to drink? I need something to wet my whistle."

Math realizes he's seated between two men of ...different opinions... how can he keep everyone happy? "I can't say I've heard the whole story. Would you tell it to me sometime?" "Thanks for the advice. I can hardly wait to get out and see what questing is like!"

I'd say it's a good sign for us new players if the game is good enough to get old players back.

Matthias stands on his chair to bring his face level with the others and takes Johon's hand... "Hi Johon, I'm Matthias, or Math if you prefer. Peace to you." ...then extends his hand to Benji. "It's interesting to meet someone with such a 'storied' reputation. The men at one pub on the harbor said you wove tales about ogres, direwolves, and dragons. I want to know if any are true!" Matthias can't help but agree with Guts' sentiment. He looks from Guts to Benji to Johon and then to his crossbow. "Any advice on how to get moving on more worthwhile equipment?"

Matthias listens to the story begin and moves to kick his pathetic crossbow, his companion on the "long journey to the hall," but thinks better of it and listens to the story. "Must be a nice problem to have, all those options to get armed in the morning...."

I wasn't aware that LEGO had serious competitors. In the southeast USA, MegaBlocks shows up at WalMart but not in force the way LEGO does. LEGO leads its market in every way and could push that lead even further... I, for one, would love to get my wife more interested in LEGOs - she loves them but is never satisfied with the female minifigs available, and don't get her started on Friends and the "mini-doll" idea.

Builds like this are inspiration and despair . Inspiration because it's amazing what talented builders can do with LEGOs. Despair because wow, how will I ever get that many LEGOs? (Or the talent to go with?! Hahaha)
