Matthias continues to hold his silence and wonders what terrible thing is going to happen now?

Heroica RPG - Quest #90: A Trip to the Circus
StickFig replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
Matthias, alone in a world of silent confusion for days as the party travelled Baltarok and the High Kingdoms, makes no move to answer. His concussion, the fight with Baradock, and Nagure's disappearance have all but flattened his initial joy at acceptance into the Hall of Heroica, even after his party's initial successes. Having avoided actually attacking Baradock during the battle, the gnome now avoids even speaking to any of his fellow heroes. The days have passed without his deep, tiny voice and the others seem no more eager to discuss or share their feelings with the inexperienced ranger than he does. The stubble of a beard slowly growing on his face - carefully groomed until the battle of the ice bridge - now looks ragged and unkempt, giving him the appearance of a wild dwarven child instead of a smiling gnomish hero. -
I'll second the vote for Bonaparte quests - especially ones that would accommodate newbies. Cannons for everyone! If he needs someone to hold his MoH for a while, Matthias would be happy to help....

Matthias watches, suddenly horrified at the battle's end. He accepts the grating stone, holding it limply in his hand until he realizes that the others are moving away, then runs to join them.

OoC: Woohoo, NINE damage!! Personal record! Matthias repeats, yelling to the other party as he takes aim. "Baradock, you can't think fighting for that side will do any good at this point!"

Welcome to Eurobricks! I would like to be the first to say that I envy your LEGO budget!

Matthias continues his attack on War Dog A from the back row.

Matthias' borrowed armor saves him again and he quickly reloads his crossbow and attacks War Dog A from the back row.

(Don't mean to interrupt whatever review process is about to happen, but I've been trying to get up-to-date on this thread and I just wanted to toss in that that is exactly how I imagined Benji when Matthias met him in the Hall.)

Matthias, aghast to see Hamilton go down, triples his attack but is dismayed to see his arrows have no effect on Mint. The gnome summons his courage and attacks War Dog A from the back row again.

Matthias attacks War Dog A from the back row, yelling to Baradock as he fires. "You know you should be on this side!"

Your MOC looks very much like an Australian pickup - a Holden Ute or similar - but the cab seems very low for an American or European pickup. Cool six-wide build!

The architectural details in both models are simply perfect.

I am consistently amazed at what builders can fit on a 16x32 baseplate. This is certainly no exception.

Matthias drinks a potion and prepares his crossbow in the back row. "Hey, big guy!" he yells at Baradock. "You don't really want to be on that side, do you?!"
-
Matthias moves behind Cinna and Dreyrugr, tiny and more confident. "I have not changed my mind," he states.

Concur. While it would have been nice to get that free XP, giving consequences keeps the game interesting.

I'm sure someone from Mitgardia will come along and tell us that their mosquitoes are bigger, fluorescent-er, and harder to catch.... I don't think it's too similar to the build you linked - I think it is just similar enough that they could be in the same village or town. Great scene!

I like the treasure shelf. Cool storage/hiding spot with the ladder up. The overhang on the outside of that shelf doesn't make much sense though without something stored there. Maybe some barrels or other containers, a woodpile, or an animal pen adjacent to the hut would make it look more natural.

"Who knows?" Matthias can no longer keep his deep, tiny voice silent. "They were mostly interested in killing us. The Orc is with us at this point, and we can pacify two parties to this dispute by returning him to his people in return for Valentino. The Fire Nords - as you can probably tell us, General Mint - are not likely to be pacified no matter what is done. I stand for returning two kings to their peoples."

OoC: Does the healing spell give us one health each? Or should we have more? Matthias, still feeling a little big, opens his mouth to reply, but glances at Cinna and thinks better of it.
-
Matthias' chest swells a tiny bit; he's met someone that one of the other heroes hasn't! Well, Purpearl will know Benji now, he thinks to himself, but I met him back at the Hall half a world away. Despite his recent injuries, diminuitive stature, and complete inexperience, he feels a tiny sense of belonging.

As one of those "heroes," I completely agree. That was the right way for that encounter to end. Not that I liked it - some of us would have appreciated a back row but life is messy. The game should reflect that. And in any case, it makes for better roleplaying if some adventurers can be overmatched. I've got a newbie, and I'll have to play him that way, and any newbie will sometimes rush in when he or she is overmatched, and sometimes be overcautious when the situation doesn't require as much caution.

LEGO should hire you to do videos of every set. ALL OF THEM.
