ive been making a couple changes to the design

the cab is now 17 holes wide as well as the fenders and I added a hood over the engine and wired it for an extra switch to turn off the front receivers and added an extra xl motor just for the engine to run i also put efferman's superstructure on and put a switch in the superstructure to turn the winch on the superstructure off

Hi, could you please share your *.lxf file?

Hi, there. I´ve made something in LDD - dual retracting/extending outriggers for GMK6400?

dual_outriggers.jpg

I´ve made it for nonsuspension version. It is compatible with it.

But there are several cons:

- in retracted position 1 stud wider

- overall 1 stud higher

- less rigid in extended position

- five stud more in lenght - it will be problem with cables, which are routed through it in central section

Pros:

- six stud wider in extended position

- bit closer to original crane

Hope you like it.

I did build the version without suspension and would be interested to see how your outriggers look in the finished model. Can you post pictures or make some renders?

Hi there once again, finally finished MKIII with dual outriggers, efferman´s actuator and superstructure. It´s really big crane when extended. I´m not 100% satisfied with it, there is much work to do with it. I have to improve lateral stability when boom is extended - some wheels or something, Driving and steering is much better with these improved version, than with suspended one. But with ballast on carrier is drivning and steering on its limit, better without it.

I tried to build GMK6400 using LDD according to gmk6400_1.2.pdf, which is the version full suspension on all axles.

But one of the problems I encountered was that there was a brick on the top of the beam, which limited the upward movement of the beam. I was wondering if the shock absorber could work properly?

The other thing is that the version I'm currently recommending without suspension, but I still want a perfect version with full suspension on all axles, bigger wheels, more reliable features. But I'm new to lego, and it's going to take me a long time to try.

(sorry for my english)

The problem you're having is that the digital file does not actually show the suspension at rest, which would have the beams angled downwards. As shown in the files, the suspension is bottomed out, and can not be compressed any farther, but in practice this just limits travel.

Thanks Saberwing40k.
I still don't quite understand what you mean, maybe is LDD cannot reflect the actual situation, but so all right, I can bold use of the existing design before, and change some parts.

Hi all,

It's glad to see that the grove crane still has some popularity:classic:. I'd now some time to create a quick'n dirty instruction from effermans' superstructure. Until now I could not build it to test the functions, because lack of parts. So it's possible that the instructions can have some errors.

In the Ldraw file I have included the Lego actuator from motomatt, but could not integrate it in the instructions, it needs some modifications in the superstructure.

So feel free to use and modify the instructions I made:

Thanks Alex for BI.

As I said, several problems has appeared. Some fixed, some remained.  Lateral stability improved with added wedge wheels on both side of superstructure. Because of XL motor behind turntable, I cannot add another one on the back. Another problem has appeared - slipping 8t gear for turning superstructure. I think that´s becouse my custom heavy iron counterweight. But without it boom leans forward. Last issue is with powering effe´s actuator. With only one 20t gear for pivot point is not enough for lifting heavy boom, always slipping (at least my one). I must use two gears against each other - but when it´s going up it cracks sometimes. Little headache.

In 2015 i build this crane. I posted pictures of it which are on page 17 and 18. I also added the axle on the front back then, to attache the hook. Now 3 years later, i want to build it once again. But i have seen that there are lot of mod's now. So i hope someone can tell me where i can get the total newest instructions of the whole crane, and the up to date partslist.

Tnx..

Hi, JDL1967,

The latest instructions I've made was the version without suspensions an the boom modified with Firgelli actuators.

Because of the big file size I've zipped the PDF file. You'll find it here for download: https://www.bricksafe.com/files/afol1969/Instructions/Grove6400-MKIII_1.1.7z

And here is also the LDRAW file: https://www.bricksafe.com/files/afol1969/Instructions/GMK6400-Mk3_Firgelli.mpd

The Part list you find in the instructions.

Greetings

Alex

Thanks @afol1969 for the Instructions.

There are some mistakes but no big issues.

Except in Step 10 the lbg Technic pin with Stop Bush collided with the black gear. I used a black pin instead.

Currently modifying the superstructure to fit the actuator from motomatt.

Hi, dunes,

Yes, I've seen the error. Should be a simple black pin. Maybe there are more errors. It would be fine if you can update the Ldraw file with motomatt's actuator included: So I can make updated instructions and hope that I finally have all the parts to build the construction to find out the right building steps.

Greetings

Alex

Hey guys

any tips on how to prevent the worm gears to slip over. Tried different mounting points on the boom and also build a different version of actuator. but still slip on the worm gear.

If I help the boom to raise over a certain height then its not a problem.

It´s not correctly visible on video, but there is two Technic reel at the begining of the boom with locking mechanism. And you can tighten the rope at any lenght of the boom. When fully extended, this rope give me another 5 cm in height, with boom bend to the opposite side.

I have finished the full suspension version with efferman‘s larger boom and actuonix linear actuator and some litter change.

Thanks all designers !
