CharlieBravo Posted August 4, 2014 (edited) I flagged my vote as a new member, no problem if they get excluded. I think the rule around new users not voting is reasonable anyway, to filter out false accounts. [comment moved to future contest thread, whoops!] Anyway, thanks to Eurobricks and Jim for hosting and putting the work into this competition, this stuff doesn't just run itself! Some really clever models in the mix. Edited August 4, 2014 by CharlieBravo
Appie Posted August 4, 2014 People need to scroll through the entry topic. That's why I let you create a nice promotional image and give a short description of the features. Thinking that people won't take the time to look at all the entries is a rather strange assumption (imho). It was just a suggestion to make it more convenient for people to look at entries in their full glory in the topic that they are voting. Compilation image is nice for quick reference, but like pint14 I think some used it as their only image.
Jim Posted August 4, 2014 It was just a suggestion to make it more convenient for people to look at entries in their full glory in the topic that they are voting. Compilation image is nice for quick reference, but like pint14 I think some used it as their only image. My plan was to integrate all the entries in the voting topic, but then I figured; we have a great entry topic, with promotional images, parts images, feature lists and links to the discussion topic. Therefor I decided that it was better to let the voters use the entry topic as a reference. I am sorry that including the combined image (the one Allan made) was confusing. Appie Posted August 4, 2014 (edited) It's all good It wasn't as much confusing btw, just the resolution was a pity for what some people made in photoshop, gimp (thanks Sariel for that tutorial btw) or whatever program people used. Zerobricks Posted August 4, 2014 Seems the entries with longer names get more votes... Should have named it Dark knight's awesome tumbler or something lol...

Mark275 Posted August 4, 2014 (edited) Seems the entries with longer names get more votes... Should have named it Dark knight's awesome tumbler or something lol... Hmm, doesn't seem to be working for me, only 1 point so far :p even tough i've quite a long name. But it's probably more about the quality of my model ;) Edited August 4, 2014 by Mark275

Rockbrick Posted August 5, 2014 1 point so far too ... (1 more than I expected to be honest) Seems that people are voting for the most complex - when in reality how functional have lego models been in the 200 piece range? - usually not even with steering and perhaps a pullback motor I wish I could have given more points around as there are many amazing models - but I really only distributed my votes to those models I thought could be on the shelf and almost be an official lego model (at least thats how I made my model)
pint14 Posted August 5, 2014 Dont worry, no points for me so far.
veryhappy Posted August 5, 2014 You are contestant, so your votes will be counted I was confused by this two sentences: You may NOT vote if you joined Eurobricks after JUNE 6th 01:35 PM. This is to prevent people registering just to vote, and applies even if you entered the contest. Exceptions to the rule above are contestants and members who have explicit permission (whitelisted). (And it seems that I'm not the only one because my voting post was edited by Alasdair Ryan for the reason: Jim to decide if votes count)
W3ird_N3rd Posted August 5, 2014 (edited) I would like my votes to be counted. How do I apply to be whitelisted?? Same question here. I'm not a contestant myself, I considered it but the quality of my models just wasn't up to par. Some of the entries are superb though and I'd like to show my appreciation. Lipko Posted August 5, 2014 (edited) Same question here. I'm not a contestant myself, I considered it but the quality of my models just wasn't up to par. Some of the entries are superb though and I'd like to show my appreciation. The problem is that anyone can make multiple accounts and write up a few comments like "I'm honest, I'm a real person". I think even contestants should be examined before letting them to vote. I wouldn't think it's too hard to make an extra entry for a fake account... I may sound paranoid, but either let everyone vote or be strict about it. It's perfectly acceptable to let new members enter but don't let them vote (or exclude contestants from voting too). Jim Posted August 5, 2014 My philosophy is simple; when you are contributing to the Technic Forum and haven't created an account just to vote (this is something I will decide) I will allow you to vote!

Jim is the man in charge of the contest so he will decide if those new members that have joined after June the 6th can enter,at his discretion some new members can be white-listed and there votes counted. Yeah, I understand that. I'll just cast my vote and see if it'll count or not. Alternatively it might be an option to have a rule where new members could cast a maximum of 2-4 points per entry (so they would be forced to give their points to many entries). That way it would be nearly useless to vote for yourself this way as you also have to give lots of points to other entries.

Bzroom Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) My girlfriend said she'd sign up and vote for me and I tried to explain how she had to be a member before the contest was announced. She didn't understand at first and then I explained that it was to prevent cheating; that you had to have some recognizable presence on the forum; that you had to at least be a "citizen" to vote. She thought that made a lot of sense. I was thinking about the voting a little bit on my drive today. With so many points to distribute, if _everyone_ thought a certain model was "medium" and gave it a couple points, but everyone had a different "favorite", then it's possible that the "medium" models, which were never ranked as spectacular, could slowly and steadily accumulate enough points to overtake a model that was regarded by some as spectacular. It seems like in that case, votes will accumulate to a popularity and not to a representation of the quality. In other words, the model with the most points may have never received more than 2 points from any one voter. I don't know which is better. I just wanted to share my observation. viracocha Posted August 6, 2014 Somebody can give 10 points to 2 entries or spread 1 point among 20 entries. It is a huge difference between 1 point and 10. As for me there are no entries with such gap in quality. The maximum points given to one entry should be smaller. Otherwise there is a room for manipulation. Maybe the admin's should group together all the funny moments and sell them to help keep the forum running.
