WIP: Christian Radich

Recommended Posts

This summer the Tall Ships Races (races for sail training sailing ships) comes to my hometown Fredrikstad in Norway. One of the participating ships is Christian Radich, a norwegian ship with Oslo as it's homeport.

I have used the winter to digitally build this ship in 1:60 scale, and I'm now in the final stages of completing it in real bricks. Hopefully I will be done before the ship arrives in Fredrikstad 12th of July. The model will then be displayed in one of the exhibition halls close to where Christian Radich is located during the event.

Here is a photo of the real ship, and below it is pictures from the building progress. I will continue to update this topic as I'm building.

Thank you for your nice comment. I have continued to work on the central part of the hull, I'm about halfway with it. I've also made templates for the sail now.

Fortunately, cheese slopes in these colors are cheap. But very time consuming to put together!

Total amount of cheese-slopes for hull:

White: 1400

Red: 960

Blue: 460

Total: 2820

Done with the middle sections. Attaching them to the rest of the hull will be a challenge, but the first part is now attached nicely.

I have continued with the front deck and the rooms under the top deck.

Missing some parts here and there, soon to be ordered from Bricklink.

I'm now working on a lot of details in LDD for the deck. Will post an update when I'm finished with all the digital work.

More LDD-work. Have ordered all the parts I need now, so just waiting for them to arrive so I can build the rest of the ship! The templates for the sails are cut out and ready for the sailmaker.

Now I need to take the deck off again to add more 1x1 bricks with 1 knob.

This is wonderful, the hull is beautifully done, it's great to see such a great sailing ship which is not built in the pirates era. Can't wait to see it finished, I really love it.

Thank you for your nice comment!

I've added some more details now, and the only thing left now is some more details on the mast, the rigging and the sails.

All sails are now attached and the whole structure is quite stable. I've managed to move it down the stairs and in to the living room without any major problems. Two weeks until the Tall Ships Races exhibition, so still time to do minor fixes, but I'm now at a stage where I'm quite pleased.

Great build. The coloured hull and the gold railings are just wonderful. Good luck completing it!
