It's roughly noon in Eubric, sun high in the sky, when the party makes their way behind the apothecary, as specified in the notice. Hybros and Pretzel had visited the backalley before, but even they didn't recognize the signs and the lever that now sat behind the rusted old manhole.

"Ah, Mr Moke! A pleasure to see you truly. How is life in Zylstra these days? I hope those troublesome Wolfgang fellows are not causing any more problems down there. The rest of the party should surely be on their way soon."

Was probably a miscalculation on my part, but I am getting a permanent + 3 HP, +2 Power, and +1 Ether from the Crystal Sovereign I purchased on Quest #81. Will add it to my stats and lower my power to 26. Sorry about that!

Em closely inspects the back alley and their employer, remaining silent.

Hybros nods to Pretzel, and greets the man who he assumed was their employer. "Hello, forgive me but I do not remember if we have met before... I am Hybros. I think you will have remembered me, eheh..."

Em closely inspects the back alley and their employer, remaining silent.

Hybros pokes the Warden. "Who are you?"

"Em," the warden replies, nodding. "What of you?"

"Hybros. I have not seen you around before, but you seem more than capable, heh..." he said, noting the Warden's armor. "Where did you get such a rare piece of equipment, if I might ask? Eheh..."

"It is a rather exquisite workmanship," I muse, admiring the armour, "though it looks far too bulky for me. I mean, I had to remind myself how to use a shield when I took up the Paladin job class one once again."

Em thinks for a moment, then shrugs. "You could say I inherited it. I know not of its origins, merely of whom I... received it from. I rather lke the feel of it, myself, though I have yet to put it to use."

"May I inquire as to whom you 'received' it from?" I inquire insensitively. "It's always good to keep one's self aware of what is available around."

8742461987_14d9452e9e_t.jpg

"Oh, of course, Mister Pretzel. We're glad to have you helping out our fair city once again. Life is better, until, er, well, the kidnappings and such. As you can see, we've opened our doors, um, so to speak. The Baron learned of Wally's wherabouts thanks to Mister Hybros here. They got in contact, and Wally has been spreading word of Zylstra, inviting new citizens and such."

Hybros nods to Pretzel, and greets the man who he assumed was their employer. "Hello, forgive me but I do not remember if we have met before... I am Hybros. I think you will have remembered me, eheh..."

Moke bows slightly.

8742461987_14d9452e9e_t.jpg

"No, but I know much about you, I serve as the Baron's personal assistant. It is a pleasure to welcome you into our city once again."

He looked up at Em next.

8742461987_14d9452e9e_t.jpg

"And of course we are happy to have any new Heroican visiting Zylstra, Mister Em. The circumstances are unfortunate, but your organization has helped preserve our city before, I have no doubt you will prove your worth again!"

"We shall do our best to live up to your expectations." Jeaux had arrived while the others were talking among themselves. "Your request mentioned people disappearing under mysterious circumstances. Do you have any more information regarding these disappearances, now that we meet face to face?"

8742461987_14d9452e9e_t.jpg

"Of course, Mister Elmfyre. I'm not privy to the details, but I'm just here to escort you to the Baron. And since we're all here..."

Moke inserted a key into the handle of the lever, twisted, and then pulled on it. A mechanical grinding issued, then the manhole slid aside, revealing a stout wooden ladder leading into the sewers below.

"....This way, please."

The gnome led them down underneath Eubric. This stretch of sewer was musky, like all of them, but had been dried out, the floor covered in stagnant grit and waterlogged dirt for them to walk through.

"If you'd like my, eh, personal view of the situation, I suspect something magical is at play...it was I who convinced the Baron to hire additional hands for this job, no offense to your skill, of course. It's simply strange how all this is happening..."

Hybros shaded his face with the brim of his hat to hide something that would have been characteristic of blushing. "I... did not know my visit here had caused such an impact. The pleasure is all mine, eheh... It is only unfortunate that you opening your doors has lead to these disappearances..."

As the party walked through the sewer tunnels, Hybros eyed the robotic party leader, who had joined them not long before. "Ehem..." he said as he tapped the automaton on the side, his finger making a plunking sound on the wood as he did so. "I have seen you at Heroica Hall before. You are that auto... auto... machine hero, yes?" Hybros looked on with curiosity. "Do you know the Tritech Company? Are they the ones who, erm, built you?"

"I am an automaton. As to the Tritech Company, Mister Legonardo mentioned them in a letter I received and suggested that this body was likely built there, but I can not say for certain. Your species is not one I am familiar with. Where is your origin?"

"Hm, interesting, heheh... I am familiar with the Tritech and their machines, and I am also well-acquainted with their employees, as well as the Ji Pei... perhaps it would not be out of the question to... visit them sometime. Perhaps they would know the nature of your... ehehm, creation. I am not sure how auto... auto... ehem your kind, is born. I do not even know exactly how humans are born, eheh."

"There are not many like me, none that I have seen on this world. But below this earth..." Hybros glanced around the underground tunnels. "I believe there is someone like me." He looked at the ground as they walked farther. "I am called Hybros, by the way."

Em follows behind the party, keeping a close eye on their surroundings. It was unfamiliar territory, and he was a bit on-edge.

"My name is Jeaux. If you come from under the ground, then this place must be rather comfortable to you." Jeaux looked at the tunnels they were traveling through. They reminded him a bit of the progg colony he had recently returned from. He began to wonder just how many underground societies there were in Eubric.

I gaze at the faceless head of our party leader.

"What the devil is this that we have for a party leader?" I demand furiously.

Hybros touched his hat in greeting. "Indeed it is, eheh... and there are many places under Eubric... a secret city know as Mercution, a dragon's den... this city holds many secrets, heheh." He thought to himself for a moment. "I wonder how deep these tunnels go..."

"We don't know that for sure, but, um, I suppose it makes sense."

"Shouldn't be much further...ah, here we are."

The sound of rushing water became prevalent in the heroes' ears as Moke lead them down one final turn. In a circular sewer sluice had been built a small settlement, complete with buildings, a giant, glowing mushroom, and even a well, a small waterfall tumbling in the background.

"So in other words we can say that you more or less played a key part in causing all these problems, eh? Let me tell you, I don't take kindly on those who invite trouble on my friends. Let's hope that the state of Zylstra isn't too bad..."

"I can vouch for Jeaux," Em reassures Pretzel. "I've quested with him before. He won't cause you grief."

"'Jeaux', is that the name of the creator of this mechanism? Or the one who keeps it running. Probably some reckless inventor who doesn't know what he's getting into, or worse one of those Ji Pei technicians." I shudder at the thought.

"It's a bad business seeing one of them in Heroica," I mumble.

Hybros looked over the underground city with admiration. He took a deep breath of the moist underground air. It was good to see Zylstra again. "A little emptier since I was last here... but other than that, a good a home."

"So in other words we can say that you more or less played a key part in causing all these problems, eh? Let me tell you, I don't take kindly on those who invite trouble on my friends. Let's hope that the state of Zylstra isn't too bad..."

Hybros' eyes narrowed. "No we can not say that, Monk. Moke here just said that we do not know Zylstra's open door was the cause of the disappearances. And whether or not they were opened due to my actions holds little relevance now, I think."

"Ehem, should we go see the Baron?"
