A Request.

Right! Here is the story. For my final college media studies theory assignment, I have to select something I am passionate about and present the subject to one of my tutors as an idea for a TV documentary. I of course chose Lego and the fan community. I've made a video talking about Lego but I came up with the thought if I could get fellow fans to comment on this thread, I could put your opinions of Lego in the video in a quote montage.

So I humbly ask 3 questions

1. What do you think being a Lego fan means to you

2. Why do you love and what do you love most about Lego?

3. also what is your all time favourite theme?

If any of you would be fantastic enough to answer these questions in your responses then I would be truly thankful.

Thanks in advance. Callum.

I'll have a go:

Being a Lego fan to me is being part of a great community (as a whole), sharing my ideas, gaining new ones, being creative, making friends, and having a good time.

I love Lego because, in this day and age, it's something that teaches kids while they play or socialise with friends. Problem solving, improved dexterity, creative thinking etc. . What I love most about Lego is it's ability to be almost anything if you put you mind to it. One minute it's a car, then a catapult, then a spaceship etc.

Hard question. Either Space, City/Town, Castle, or Superheroes. If only had to pick one, It'd be between Superheroes or Space.

Hope that helps.

1. Being a LEGO fan is something that is part of me. I grew up with LEGO, I've recently came back to it and the community is great. Being able to share and to receive information is invaluable !

2. It makes me think in new perspectives, it has helped me overcome difficult times and it relaxes me more than anything else.

3. As a child I really juggled between pirates/castle/technic, nowadays I am mostly a technic/creator fan and builder

I'd say:

1. I think it means being devoted to collecting Lego and staying active in the fan community.

2. It helps me relax and it helps me see things differently.

3. Probably Superheroes. I also like the Avatar: The Last Airbender theme since the ship is so fun to MOD and the theme in general had great potential.

And then too course Bionicle. Some of the bigger models were very well built and the storyline was fantastic.

1) It means not buying clone brands. It means not pretending to be too grown up to build things.

2) I love how it can take me anywhere I want to go. I use it as a time machine. I love to go back to the old west, the medieval time period, and to the future. I get to experience lots of cool things with it just by building.

3) Wild West has always been my favorite (well, ever since it was released) and Pirates comes in second.

Sounds like a great idea!

So I humbly ask 3 questions

1. What do you think being a Lego fan means to you

[/quote/] Being a LEGO fan gives me access to a large assortment of information about a popular, multi-generational toy.

2. Why do you love and what do you love most about Lego?

LEGO brings me a joy that goes beyond the concept of being a plaything. LEGO inspires new ideas beyond play, such as animation and art designs. More recently, LEGO has even taught me about mechanics and engineering. When I drove home from school today, I stopped at a red light and noticed the construction surrounding me. While most commuters find this to be a drag on traffic, I was fascinated with the movements of the construction vehicles. I understood the movements of an excavator in LEGO terms. For that brief moment, I imagined building a LEGO model that demonstrates the same movements shown in Technic sets. Creating a world in LEGO doesn't prevent me from seeing its true abilities. It helps me grasp the real-world concepts in terms that I have been familiar with. I would be less likely to think about animation, or engineering, or art in my daily life without their abilities to be adapted by LEGO.

What I love most about LEGO is being able to control my hobby as if it were a thriving miniature world. On a minifigure scale, I create all kinds of projects, such as cars and buildings, for my figures to play and be displayed in. With a small scale, I can make an expansive world with all kinds of structures, creatures and environments, all according to my unique design. It even presents challenge for being efficient with my collection and spacing each structure so much that it can be displayed and played with. I am currently working on a LEGO city, and so far I completed an almost functional sewer tunnel, with intentionally breakable platforms for added affect. Soon I will begin a mining area, with collapsible walls, hidden passages and a minecart that travels between caverns. These are more subjects I would not consider if not for a LEGO form.

3. also what is your all time favourite theme?

My favorite theme of all time is hard to choose, but my best choice would be Power Miners. With every new LEGO set, I learn more skills and styles of building that I could use for my own creations. Yet Power Miners presented a concept beyond the traditional building experience. Power Miners by itself is a rare theme in LEGO history, with one preceding mining theme, Rock Raiders, and one small theme of LEGO City involving mining after this theme. Power Miners took the concept of underground digging and made it into an adventure, with strange creatures and crystals to dig for underground. Although the sets lacked any sort of cavern building models, they encouraged the user to build their own and use the vast array of vehicles to accomplish their mining task. Each vehicle was equipped with a different style of building as well as a noticeably orange drilling function. From spinning interplanetary drills to dynamite catapults to sweeping machines to harvest the crystals, these vehicles were fascinating to build and even more interesting to play with. Imagine moving a simple vehicle and watching its drill push in and out with every forward and backward movement of its treads. The Power Miners theme presented a unique variety of figures and creatures, with two large bases to store the crystals dug up underground. The creatures had a great play feature of eating the crystals in their trash can-shaped bodies, some being able to throw other figures! The mining figures were similar by uniform but different by occupation and facial expressions, with an assortment of drillers, executives (a chief and a geologist), explosives experts and engineers. Power Miners offered me an incredible experience of building with the encouragement of making semi-technical, but kid-friendly, functioning models.

If any of you would be fantastic enough to answer these questions in your responses then I would be truly thankful.

Thanks in advance. Callum.

Feel free to use any or all of what I wrote. I look forward to hearing about the result of your project!

1. What do you think being a Lego fan means to you

Being a Lego fan means being young at heart, being part of a created and dedicated community, and sharing the love of building with all generations.

2. Why do you love and what do you love most about Lego?

I love how Lego allows myself to connect to my own childhood, as well as connecting with my kids right now. I love sharing something I treasured as a child with my kids, and watching them have fun with it. It really does offer something for everyone, at any age, and at any skill level.

3. also what is your all time favourite theme?

Very difficult question, but I would say space (especially classic space), and historic themes such as pirates and castle.

I started to answer your questions when I realized that my answers would not be very helpful since I am not a super-duper Lego fan but rather a "light" most-probably-temporary or on-off Lego fan. I don't love Lego, I like it and with reservation.

But one thing I can tell you, my most, if only, favorite theme is the Modular Buildings and I consider the Haunted House part of it (even if it's not modular).

1.

It means that I can use my creativity and have fun building things I like. It's also nice to be a part of this community together with other Lego-fans,

2.

I love it because I can build anything I want to build. I have a huge interest in tractors and construction machines, and being able to build them is fun.

3.

Aside Technic I was into City-themed vehicles when I was younger, but Technic is the only theme I'm into now.

1) being lego fans means that i love lego, and love playing with it, and that my age don't matter at all when it comes to lego.

2) i love lego because it offers endless possibilities. i'm the type of person that easily bored with one model. with other collectible toys, if you feel bored with the model, the only thing you could do is buy a new one, or do a customizing which is failed, can't be undone. but with lego, when you bored with the model, you could just take it apart and rebuild it however you want. i love robots and mecha, and building ones really exiting, especially when creating a legoformer.

3) constraction figures, which is includes Hero factory, ultrabuilds, and bionicle. i didn't get a bionicle tag for no reason.

I think that being a lego fan means that you have a lot of freedom to being creative to build whatever you want and that you can choose to follow instructions or make something your way.

I love lego because its awesome. I really like it though because it gets me to be creative and what I like about lego is that its fun and interesting.

My most favorite theme is Atlantis. That has got to be the best theme ever.
