[MOC] Dol Guldur

Recommended Posts

Oh hullo there little LEGO hobbits!

Here is my version of Dol Guldur. I tried to replicate some scenes of the Hobbit movies and some extra stuff.

Dol Guldur the ruined fortress where many dark things hide and regain strength.

Thanks!

All of the pictures say "the image is currently unavailable"?...

Indeed the pictures don't work anymore...

Flickr now says i haven't uploaded anything yet. I don't even? What?! They were working when i put up this thread... First Brickshelf and now Flickr making problems.

I will have a look at it tonight and reupload, but first a working day :)

Its nice creation but the gate with all those spikes on the top is kinda weird, those spikes should be placed on the sides as well and I will recomend you to use those more wisely :)

Very nice MOC with lots of interesting details! The official set was so disappointing. Obviously they couldn't have done something this big but if they had done something smaller with the same feel as this it would have been much better.

Pics not available still. I am really looking forward seeing your Dol Guldur MOC!

Can you see the pictures now? I can see them again :)

I think the orange spikes are fine, they should represent rusted metal. In the movie there is no special patern seen on the walls. Just a decaying fortress with walls that have metal spikes on them.

I agree that it may be a few too many spikes :)

The official set is pretty shitty but it had some great ideas. I took some aspects of it to use in my moc. Like the trees with the red leaves, the hanging skeleton, statues, the windows, etc...

its amazing, it has lots of details

Thank you, I tried to put in many details. But sometimes I did not have enough bricks to realise what i wanted.

Awesome! Better than TLG's version!

Thanks!

Wow, very nice! Great details all over here. I've been meaning to MOC my own Dol Guldur, after I've seen this I think maybe I will.

I never noticed before, but in that first link, if you look closely, the guy about to land on Gandalf looks like Thrain...

That is because he is Thrain.

http://heirsofdurin....4_000118375.jpg

On his way back to Erebor Thrain was captured as a prisoner in Dol Guldur. He was last seen by Gandalf in Dol Guldur before the events of the hobbit (according the books). Thrain gave the key of the lonely mountain to gandalf which he then gave to Thorin.

Thrain died in Dol Guldur and so one of the seven dwarven rings was in Saurons possesion.

Yeah, I know he was there in the books, but he's not there in DoS, so it's interesting that there's pictures of him. I'm wondering if those scenes are going to be in TABA.

Dol Guldur has a special role for me in Tolkien fandom. Years ago I acted as a developer for Tolkien MUD and one of my major projects involved writing descriptions and scripting code for the Dol Guldur zone. Really great work here, and I like the storytelling element you bring to it rather than simply posting photos (which you could get away with when it looks this good) :)

Hey thats a lot of pictures there! xDD All this darkness in the photos (lots of shades etc, a little lighting) was on purpose to give the moc a dark feeling?? If yes its ok but if you wanted to light up the scenes more dont use flash and go shoot the moc outdoors so we can see the details better.

But overall lots of inderesting scenes and traps there!

The shadows and dark atmosphere were created on purpose. Dol Gulldur is dark and full of shadows, so I wanted to show this in the pictures. Almost all of the pictures were shot without flash.

I have also shot some pictures outside in my garden.

Thank you. :) That is interesting! What is Tolkien MUD if I may ask? Is it design for a website?
