because solid Axles and suspensions are the biggest problem for beginners i have started on my german homeforum a collection thread for vehicle axles and suspensions, and i think here should exist a thread like this too. feel free to post your own axles and suspensions. please with picture and if possible with an LDD file that it can simple reproduced.

Okay, here are mine:

First the small ones:

This one is and improved axle used in my mini 41999.

Its made for light trucks only:

Second there is an axle I actually came up with yesterday in my mini unimog. It features a differential and actual portal gears, making it the smallest lego portal axle:

Third axle is made for the small truck wheels and the slightly larger baloon wheels:

One of the older, yet still good axles is the one used in raptor:

Next are the axles used in cheetah. They are very robust and efficient:

Slowly getting to the big boys... Here's a slightly updated axle used in the monster. Its extremely robust and can carry high torque.

And the latest mother of (half)axles is the one used in the fox. Its the most efficient of the bunch thanks to only two gears used.

Here is a small front axle for a live setup, including drive and steering.

Here is a dynamic rear differential independent setup.

Here is a portal axle with turntables setup that includes a limited slip differential.

Finally, here is a portal axle independent set-up with MacPherson suspension.

I had a lot of trouble finding plenty of steer and suspension articulation which I think is important, because you can turn in small spaces and there is less of a limit for when the spring bottoms out, and the ride height be can adjusted more this way. until I build the first example I posted. it does have some problems such as bump steer, You just have to stick with it and try and most of the time it will be possible in lego.

If i mention right a 3-link setup with a simple panhard bar, something like the Ford Mustang has. Nicjasno made one aswell, but is a little bit big. :tongue:

I would also like to see some live axles setups like the Ford Mustang has for ideas.

Here's what I developed for chitty. I will be refining for the GTHO very soon.

I made a more reliable version but didnt take any pics, and choose this one because of looks.

Nice leaf spring set-up there Doc :thumbup: I don't think I've personally designed any axles, tbh it's the bit I struggle with :grin: especially for Trial Trucks :blush:

How did you manage to make such animation/rotation in LDD?

On my version of LDD, I can only animate small/simple mechanisms ...

I might as well post my dual live rear axle(s) with central diff for "8258-sized-trucks"

question; not only for you Michael, but for all of you respected builders - do you know how to make steered driver independent suspension axle that has differential but is more narrow than 18 studs? It must use differential at the center of axle and universal joints?

Maybe something like this, but without portal axles and place a differential in the chassis. I know that you wouldn't get the same performance with a different differential setup, but it's all I've got at the moment.

Hi, This is one of my test axles ;) (I've not not tested it in car yet :)) (the red pieces are connected into the holes in the PF-Servo, and yellow links are connected to yellow towballs)

Small detail perhaps but nonetheless. With the new differentials and symmetric constructions (drive-shaft in the middle), widths can be only odd numbers, I.e., 17 or 19 ... But not 18.

If you start by sandwiching a 3L differential between two thin liftarms, you can build an even-width suspension module.

That's what I thought, too, until Saberwing40k posted this design, which I've built and found quite strong (other than some flex in the wishbones):
