I am thinking about getting the Imperial trading post and was wondering is it a good base or a bad base?

Is eldorado fortress better?

I guess it all depends on your opinion.

I love the little merchant ship and all the buildings, it looks really nice

Eldorado fortress is also very nice and has more soldiers

:)

What do you think?

Glad yer like our emoticons Mr Piranha! I spent enough time working ont them X-D

As for the question...

It depends what kind of base you're looking for. Both sets are aptly titled - Eldorado Fortress is a Fortress and The Imperial Trading Post is a Trading Post.

So if you want something with strong defensive capabilities then get Elodrado Fortress. If you want a place to sell and trade goods then get the Imperial Trading Post.

Both sets my on the top of my to-buy list for this year.

I plan to buy them both including box and instructions.

So I won't choose between them because I want them both.

the Imperial Trading Post is a great set, the merchant boat is of pure beauty but the structure of the buildings is quite simple (using a lot of wall-pieces).

So if you really want a good build-up model I would go for the Eldorado Fortress, it has more soldiers and more bricks.

The imperial Trading Post has more plates and yellow arches and of course three cannons instead of two.

In the end however I would suggest you buy them both and put them next to eachother with the little harbour in between. I leave the tough decission of deciding which one to buy first up to you >8-)

What? You don't already have them? Are you insane? X-D

But what about recommending just one for Mr Piranha who has to decide between one or the other?

Jep. They are still missing in my collection and I won't buy anything else before I get them.

In that case I suggest to flip a coin to make that decision. You can't compare them.

A military fortress is completely different from a trading post/harbor.

I can compare them very easily X-D

But indeed you are right, a military fortress is completely different from a trading post so that takes me back to the original question I posed in my first post.

You own them both? With the original boxes?

But indeed you are right, a military fortress is completely different from a trading post so that takes me back to the original question I posed in my first post.

Indeed, we need more input from Mr. Piranha.

But in the end he'll has to make this decision by himself.

May I recommend we add a poll to this thread for an extra level of interactivity and feedback?

Sure, why not.

Brilliant set. As I like the Redcoats better than the blue, as the British are superior to French, and I like the port thing better than the fort, I think it's the very best of the pirate theme. I ordered one off Bricklink a month ago and I should recieve it, like, tomorrow. X-D

Expect a review.

Yes I own them both, only got a box for Eldorado Fortress though.

Indeed, we need more input from Mr. Piranha.

Yes, we do indeed. We still don't know what kind of base he's after - military or trading?

But in the end he'll has to make this decision by himself.

Well obviously, its not like we can dictate the decision for him can we? X-D But he asked for an opinion so that's what I'll give him as soon as I get more information.

Sorry I usually check back once a day

Anyway I am looking for um er both :-D

I like both of them, but deciding which one is somewhat hard

I finally decided to go with Enchanted Island, wait that wasn't one of my choices............

ITP is great...much better to EF

1)ITP is bigger than EF

2)ITP have one cannon more

3)ITP have a merchant ship

4)ITP have more minifigs....i like the pirate with axe...

But EF is really cool too....i love EF too

Both good sets, but the trading post looks more impresive as a set. The red roofs make it stand out a bit more but it doesn't look as solid as an Eldorado Fortress.

Again, hard to pick between but I'll go for the Eldorado fortress cause I have 4 of them but only 1 trading post.

I finally bought the Imperial Trading Post on eBay yesterday.

It should be in perfect condition including the original box and instructions.

Now I just hope the condition of the set is as good as I was told.

How far does your Imperial Trading Post have travel, Mr Bonaparte?

It will be shipped with DHL from Germany. I might have it in about a week from now.

It was rather expensive but I won't mind as long a it is in perfect condition as promised.

Now I'll start hunting for an Eldorado Fortress (including box).

So you consider the box to be an important part of the set?

The box does have some value to me.

And I don't have enough space at the moment to display all my sets, so it is convenient to store them in a box (preferable the original box). But sometimes I doubt it is really worthwhile spending all that extra money to get the set including the box.

What do you think?

Yes, I agree the box does add value. The box contains artwork not available anywhere else and like you mentioned it does provide a convenient storage space should you not have the room to build the set.

I suppose it depends how much extra money the box costs and what condition its in.
