Ripsaw WIP

[z3_2drive]

This is my WIP Topic since I've figured out all my questions about the build. This is my first tank build and I think it's going pretty well!

It is based off the Ripsaw, but has some differences:

^I had to use some interesting techniques to connect both the studded and studless construction.

^My table's pretty messy during builds

I need to brace the structure in the rear and make a simple lightweight connection from front to back to place the electronics box and battery on.

I think Ripsaw should be fast as hell, that's why 4 RC motors :) Looks great.

Those new "dogbone" pieces work nice, huh? I used them to stabilize my HOG steering.

By the way, I haven't seen all-yellow shock absorbers before- where did you get those?

Are you sure the chassis is long enough to prevent turnover when starting? The real Ripsaw has 3 bogies in each track rather than 2, and I happen to have a Lego Ripsaw model of my own about half of the size of yours, which gets almost vertical when starting on a surface with good traction.

Are you going to use some wizardry in the controller to mix the two sides to get decent turning performance. Kind of like doing a simulated subtractor. It would even be cooler with the red treads on the tracks.

BTW I have actually seen one of Howe and Howes designs first hand.

The dog one pieces do come in handy!

@Sariel when hitting the throttle (yes I have completed it and tested) fully on carpet the tank rises up but never tips. I will make some changes to help.

@Andy after some simple re-wiring and changing the mode on the motor controller, the remote now acts as a perfect tank controller. It spins when steering at a stop, and slows a side when steering at speed, and it's all proportional.

@TLH you can take the shocks apart without damage and then customize them any way you want :)

@zux I believe it is a type of Bionicle chest piece.

Excellent work so far I am surprised that it will need that quantity of shock absorbers! All about geometry I guess. What do you have planned for batteries for this monster? I seem to be seeing Bionicle pieces on EB far more often these days!

Looks BIG! How are you going to turn if your using the RC controller. Will you be using TWO RC controllers or will you be using your sacrificing your reverse direction as a way to turn.

Very interesting way of putting the motors together, may have to steal that idea for my 2 motor buggy! hehe
