[HELP] 9398 Servo Issue

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just finished book 2 of 3 of my set and obviously wanted to try it out before putting the body on. I can drive forwards and backwards perfectly, and I can turn right, but turning left is an issue, the car just won't do it, and it doesn't even sound like the engine is trying to, and if I manually push it, the car does seem to be able to turn left. any ideas?

Sounds like the servo needs to be centered, try and move the black cogs off the steering rack then power the servo so it centers itself.

Just contact LEGO Customer Service- unfortunately you got a faulty servo motor.

It actually might not be a faulty servo motor- like JM1971 said, you should probably check the batteries, etc. first.

Check batteries are ok, if not then connect the servo to another channel to rule out the transmitter, then straight to the battery.

I had a faulty servo in one of my 9398's

Only went one direction just like you described.

Lego customer service replaced it without hesitation.

Whats wrong with your servo? does is only turn one way or not work at all, or get stuck?

It does noting at all, unfortunately. Not even making a noise.

And yes, I've tried 3 different receivers with that motor. And different motors on that port.
The port on the receiver is fine, it is definitely the servo that is dead..

Is the wire damaged near where is enters the servo? I would recommend opening it up with an Xacto knife then checking the inside.

I'll probably do that, but to achieve this I first need to get it out, thus my question:

"can the servo be removed from the chassis without taking it apart fully?"

No, in a 9398.....

Ok, you will need to take it apart, I don't think taking apart a 9398 will be very difficult though. For taking the servo apart you need to cut the plastic in front of the DBG clips to allow the DBG part to slide out of the LBG housing. Don't try to push the clips to disassemble it, it want work, I tried.
