Would it hurt you if the Star Wars franchise would stop right now?

Funny, when i was a kid i'd love to play with SW, then i became a youth and loved to read marvel comics. My attention nowadays is also slipping from SW to the superheroes line. Especially since a lot of those characters are inspired from the comics (or maybe cartoons, but with almost the same outfits) from the 80ies/90ies.

I have a weakness for OT stuff, but still i didn't get me the DS battlepack already. If the SWline would stop, i think it wouldn't hurt me, no. I mean the prices are high, the builds mediocre and although the minifigs are done very well, most of the time you only want 1 of the 3 figs thats included.

It's a very good question. I don't think it would hurt so much as I imagined when first thought about it. I mean they just release the same vehicles over and over again with new parts and better printed figs. One can easily apply the new pieces and building techniques into an older version to create a modernised SW model. Nowadays it feels like a rip-off, buying a set that you technically not own, yet you almost have a copy of it, but you buy it for the new figs eventually. Although this system has a good side as well, those who just started collecting Lego or got back from the dark ages may missed the certain vehicle/building and can get the new edition. Still I don't worry about TLG stops releasing SW sets since it's one of their main themes, and I don't know for sure but I bet that this line is the most productive. And knowing that fact I can't imagine how I would really feel if TLG stopped producing the SW line.

I've been collecting all the OT sets ever since the Lego got the Star Wars license back in 1999... Which is pretty depressing, perhaps. It has meant I've been buying the second, third and sometimes even the fourth reiteration of vehicles such as the Snowspeeder or the AT-AT. Due to a lack of space, I've already found myself in the awkward position that I'm buying a new version of a set, when I haven't even built the previous version. For example, I have a built 4502 X-Wing, but I also have both a MISB 6212 X-Wing and a MISB 9493 X-Wing, and that's not because I want to sell these. Same with the AT-AT: I have two 4483 AT-AT's built up, one 10178 AT-AT and one 8129 AT-AT still MISB, and in half a year's time I'm fully intending to get the 75054 AT-AT.

To be honest I really would not mind if the Lego Star Wars license just stopped here and now. Although I really do still enjoy building the sets, to an 'old' collector like me the constant rehashes, although understandable from a marketing point of view and excellent for newer fans, have become a drag. I actually almost enjoy the relative lack of new OT sets this first half-year: it feels like a chance to breathe.

Nope wouldn't bother me at all. When they rehash designs that they've released several times already it's time to stop.

32 Sets lined up so far: 6 Chibby style, 4 Battle Pack style (basically just new styled minifigs), 4 poly bags, 8 rehashed sets, 9 unknowns, only 1 new model.

Even if all 9 unknowns (5 appear to be rehashes) were "new" models that's less than 1/3 being new material. But since it looks like we're getting 5 new models out of 32. That's only about 15% new material and 5 of those 5 aren't even anything iconic from the movies, assuming the Advent calender is just a bunch of figs with some misc small parts per usual.

The well hasn't run dry but the designers keep serving us the same slop. I get the "need" to always have a X-Wing for sale EACH year. But it's getting a bit old as we hit the 15 year mark. :/

Let's pray that LEGO pulls something out of the hat with remaining 10 sets that they haven't announced.

The Star Wars line is the main reason that I still consistently buy Lego. If it were too end, I suspect the majority of my Lego purchasing would end as well.

I wouldn't be too upset as the last few years have yielded a slew of new aliens, and so I can build most of what I'd want to for Star Wars. As soon as we go the X-Wing cockpit windshield, the TIE windshield and the Falcon windshield, you could build most everything Star Wars for vehicles, and you could already build the locations beforehand. The real limitation is the mini-figures. With the (relatively) recent additions of Endor Troopers, Death Star Troopers, Cloud City Troopers and Death Star Gunners, the Imperial and Rebel forces are practically all represented. The more recent addition of Gran, Ortolans, Weequay, Klatoonians, Duros, new Twi'lek's and Ithorians and hopefully Bith and Aqualish this year pretty much wraps up the most vital races. I would still like to see a better Sullsutan, some Bothans, Quarren, Devaronians and a better Talz, but I can't really complain. The majority of the Jedi from the prequels are represented and they are remaking the CW characters without the giant eyes, so most of the Prequel stuff (that I'm concerned with) has been addressed.

The only things I really want yet are Zuckuss and 4-Lom, who will hopefully be in the UCS Slave I this year, Jan Dodonna, Thrawn, Mara, Karrde, Paelleon and a Bantha.

In regards to the remakes, Lego HAS to remake sets to keep the line appealing to little kids, who are usually 5-8 when they get into it, and didn't have a chance to buy the earlier sets. The kids want Luke and R2 and Darth Vader, and they want an X-Wing. You have to accept the releases to appeal to the kids, If the kids weren't buying these rehash sets, the line wouldn't be profitable enough, and we wouldn't be getting the original or more obscure stuff. Also, the rereleases are often better than the previous version, but not always, plus it lets me get a few more Y-Wings or TIEs or Gunships.

I have been very happy with a few sets each year (except 2011 - and it had worthless battle packs besides), which makes the line worthwhile for me. I am excited to see what Rebels and the new movies bring.

Edit: Oh yeah, I want Ephant Mon and Durge as well.

Honestly, no it wouldn't. I am pretty much satisfied with everything they have made to date.

Yes, I would mostly because I want to see any new possible Rebels/Ep 7 builds, plus a UCS Venator, most everything else I think has been done.

They have most mainstream minifigs created, as well as most sets, so people are now complaining that all they see are remakes, showing us that it is time for new material.

Clone wars has been holding us up for the past several years, but with that gone Lego decided it needed more so we got the Yoda chronicles and the Jek-14, and I feel we'll get more stuff like that if we continue to lack new popular material.

Well for people like myself who have only recently come out of their dark ages it,would be sad to have missed out. I haven't been too interested in Star Wars Legos due to the high concentration,of PT sets. But now that is,changing and I am very excited to get sets like the cantina which as a child was always a very fasinating place when I first saw it on screen.

Also as a parent I see a good deal of children who are discovering Star Wars for the first time and who get a chance to build these sets. After all ultimately it's these children who TLG is building the sets for, who every year are newly discovering Star Wars for the very first time. It's a great feeling and reminds me of my childhood and how I was excited to get the millennium falcon, slave 1, etc.

The consequence of doing anything for a good deal of time is you will always see things repeated.

I would not be happy because Lego Star Wars is the only Legos I collect now since Indiana jones was done with.

I won't be satisfied until TLG gives us a UCS scale TIE Fighter. Then they can call it quits.

But I agree with Cmdr Colt, I am very interested in seeing what LEGO can do with the Rebels series. Should be fertile ground for the next few years.

On the other hand, if they stopped making new sets, I might have a chance at finishing my collection... :look:

It would hurt me, I have a lot of catching up to do, now that I finally have the money to buy Lego sets when I so desire.
