Ninjago: Masters Of Spinjitsu TV Show Thread

You better remove that picture, just saying.

Would recommend deleting the quote itself cuz the photo is still there.

I'm interested to see where this series will go. I'm thinking they'll advance in time to see the ninja become Sensei and they could each have a student or something.

Thanks for the heads up :) I'm very curious to see the future for the ninja.

After always wearing color swaps of the same outfit, the ninja finally wear the exact same suit. That is a sad future...

One thing I noticed about Ninjago compared with other elemental shows, is that Ninjago focuses much more on raw power, rather than skill with the particular power itself. Take Nya for example. She can summon a huge wave, yet her regular skills? Shooting water from her hands in a straight line. I feel like only a few characters in Ninjago that are actually skilled enough to compete with other elemental characters.

And for some reason, the key attributes that each ninja possessed are gone. Jay no longer showcases speed, Zane no longer demonstrates stealth, Kai actually attacks the least these days, and Cole gets destroyed when he's against bigger characters.

They had these abilities for around until the Overlord season ended. Then they were just gone. And now it's only their personality that's left. And yes, those ^ abilities ^ were actually in the show.

The new suits aren't exactly the same, actually—if you take

you'll notice that each of the new suits has some different details (it's particularly easy to see on Jay, who has a pauldron like his 2012 suit, and Kai, who has additional brown belts around his midsection).

I think your observations about the ninja's "key attributes" are wrong too. Not only do I question where you got the idea of each ninja being better at those specific skills (since I don't recall most of those attributes being emphasized apart from Cole's strength), but Cole's super-strength was definitely on display in the Tournament of Elements as well—it just hasn't had as much emphasis since he became a ghost and his skills began focusing less on any sort of physicality.

Man, is Nya never going to learn spinjitzu? She knows how to control water, do airjitzu, and summon a water dragon, but no spinjitzu? Anyone know why this is the case?

I meant the Skybound suits, where they are basically the same suit with different recolors (however, these are very good recolors). Also, I was complementing the summer suits for being different.

The first episodes, and a little bit of the next season, had the ninja following these attributes, I didn't get them out of nowhere. Primarily from the Skulkin season, the order goes earth (defense), fire (attack), stealth (ice), and speed (lightning).

While this was not explicitly stated in the show, it was present in the cards and books, as well as the ninja demonstrating these abilities in the first two seasons.

For example, Jay is the "quick" fighter of the group during a fight scene in episode 1. Another instance is Zane using stealth in a few episodes. But now? Jay isn't even fast, and Zane was the first to get wrecked by Nadakhan, despite being the stealthy one. All of them feel the same combat and skill wise. And also, several people refer to the skill guide I mentioned in Ninjago's earlier years, and sometimes even today.

Man, is Nya never going to learn spinjitzu? She knows how to control water, do airjitzu, and summon a water dragon, but no spinjitzu? Anyone know why this is the case?

She does spinjitzu twice. The first time she's corrupted and prematurely brings the skill out. The second time, if you slow down the intro in the TOE season, you can see Nya's spinjitzu a little.

I mean't water spinjitzu. The corrupted spinjitzu wasn't really her, it was the dark matter influencing her. And I don't consider the shows intro to be canon lol. I mean't to say she's never done it since she became a ninja. And it's odd because its one of the first skills the original 4 learned when they became ninja. Edited by SmashCat9000

I'm sure she learned it already, I'm pretty sure she mentioned that she could do it when she was training with Wu to become the water ninja in the Possession season.

EDIT: Nevermind, she didn't mention it, Wu said she couldn't it when he said "Samurai X can't do Spinjitzu," so I guess she couldn't do it. She could do airjitzu though, I think she may have learned spinjitzu as well.

So Dogshank's tall tale is now out and it is beyond a doubt a tall tale as there are some clear discrepancies between it and the series.

Clancee said in one of the episodes that Dogshank wished to stand out since she was the second prettiest woman, yet here it is so she can win the Ninjago Olympics. Also in the series she is concerned with honor, yet here she tries to cheat.

I'm pretty sure she can do it. Maybe it's just her "shtick" for her to not use it much. Maybe because it's too easy? Or because it's for emergencies only? Maybe it's her personal challenge?

Also good to note, that Morro didn't do spinjitzu either. And Misako isn't a ninja, and she can do spinjitzu as well. But she doesn't find it necessary to use all the time.

Funny, how Dogshank's tale takes place in the arena that was never used...

Lego released a video called Cole's ghostly struggle on their website, the video itself is rather meh, it's just Cole converting from ghost to human and human back to ghost. But the description of it kinda provide us some information :

Cole has finally begun to harness his ghost power, but there is an interesting catch. If he gets too scared he will disappear completely. If he gains full control of his mind and body he finds he can actually become human again! With an unknown threat lurking in the jungle it will take all his focus as he must learn to balance this power.

Thanks for the share!

The video itself was really odd - the animation style wasn't at all like the show's animation (all I can think of is that it's unfinished, as it's really close to show animation but clunkier). Oh, thats definitely Tiger Widow Island. Interesting plot point with the ghost stuff - a bit annoying as it feels like a bit of a retcon (since when can ghosts turn human after overcoming fear?!?!) but I guess that will be a main plot driving factor for the summer wave. Guess this is a sneak preview of what's to come...

A couple things wrong with that:

One, no one has ever escaped Yang's temple, as a ghost. Only thing that comes to mind is that the transformation was only half or 75% complete. Either way, Cole isn't a normal ghost.

Also, this animation is extremely different from the show's animation. This animation, is in the style of the animated set videos. It started in 2014 with Rebooted. Only the environments are similar to the show.

In other words, this wasn't rushed.

As soon as the minifig of "human" Cole was shown, and we saw that scar, we knew something was up.

I myself called Cole's scar allowing him to switch between ghost and human.

My son is now addicted to this. Annoyingly the only episode we haven't seen is The Way Back.

Which is on the Official TLC Youtube, but blocked for the UK.

My son

we

:wink::thumbup:

I've been thinking, has anyone else liked the second season Year of The Snakes the best out of all the seasons? This season seemed special to me. It progressed slowly enough to process all these locations, and tell a story at the same time.

There was also character progression. What I liked the most though, was that the ninja had skillz compared to now. (this may be because of the weapons though).

I mean, ask yourself, how many actual fights were there since the old seasons? There was The Second Serpentine War (not really), the Preeminent (which was okay, but it was just, there...), and Nadakhan (which was definitely not a real fight).

The last seasons had The Devourer and The Overlord, which were definitely fights.

The ninja seem, I dunno, de-powered all of a sudden, skill wise.

Even if you don't see eye to eye with ^ this ^, you can't argue that the vibes you got from the snake and Overlord seasons are different than what we see now.

I'm hoping the new outfits aren't the only throwbacks, if you know what I mean. I hope there's more than 10 episodes this time...

...and Nadakhan (which was definitely not a real fight).

HA!

I mean sure that fight was really one sided, but it was a fight. In fact, it just might beat the "Final Battle" as the most climactic fight in the series!

Regarding the Ninja being "de-powered," if you will. I agree.

The Hageman Bros. have been dropping the ball on writing comprehensive scenes of them actually using their powers (outside of Nya).

I hope to see that change, as it certainly accentuates the characters.

Talking about fighting skills with weapon, the fight between Jay and Doubloon in S6 is actually a very cool fight! That fight is basically one of the best fight scene seen in Ninjago for years.

Oh it's definitely both of us who enjoy it. I like that the series actually has a storyline.

I don't watch every episode with him because let's face it, that's my quiet time. But what I have watched I like.

But it was only like 45 seconds total.

S2 YOTS had Zane vs the Guradian and treehorns fight, Kai vs Garmadon, and fights against armies. Really good stuff.

I'm bringing this up because I rewatched two episodes and was blown away by how much different a vibe it gave off than the new seasons.

Rise of the Serpentine and The Final Battle season is all about Green Ninja that leads to Lloyd being the Golden Ninja and then ultimately losing the golden power. From here onwards the Ninjas power are on a steady decline.

The Re-booted season could have easily been the source of inspiration for NEXO Knights -- downloading power to their armour or weapons. I know some people dislike this season but it's my favorite because LEGO had the balls to reimagine what futuristic Ninja could be. My favorite army to this day are the Nindroids.

If Batman can have so many gadgets to be a superhero why can't ninjas have those as well? That's the reason I miss Nya's Samurai X character ... Ronin is supposed to fill that gap but his douche bag attitude does not help replace the gap created when Nya became a ninja and retired from being Samurai X.

I do hope future season will explore more ways to go back to the specialty of each character because frankly speaking Kai is suppose to be the most powerful of the ninjas specialising on attack but lately he's getting defeated so easily while Cole had become weaker and weaker on defence now that he's a ghost! Zane 2.0 forgot he is actually stealthy he won't even try. Jay still exhibit specialty on speed but only on talking.

This. THIS is what I mean.

Rebooted had some really good ideas, the only thing I didn't like about it was the love triangle. But they could have taken it a step further, like having more... Actual futuristic stuff. Maybe Zane's gi could have had a stealth setting, or Cole's outfit come with black armor. Definitely one of my favorite seasons overall, but Year of The Snakes was by far my favorite.

With Cole becoming a ghost-human hybrid next season, i'd really like them to take this opportunity to discover themselves again. It really looks like this is what they were set up for. Zane can find peace with his new body, Cole can get used to being solid again, Jay can adapt to his blurry eye, and Nya always has some sort of issue, so she can do that, and unlock her NRG form. This way, the vibes of the old days can return.
