Kristel Posted September 12, 2013 Hi! I'd like to present my latest MOC modular building, which I've called Black Velvet, after the cafe found on the ground floor. It's inspired by New York buildings. The owner has converted the space in the back alley into a little courtyard for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city while they enjoy their coffee. The first and second floor houses an accountant office, with the reception and main meeting room on the first floor and the staff offices on the second floor. More images available on flickr. Thanks for looking. C&C welcome!
Chocolatecake Posted September 12, 2013 Another beautiful from your hands. I can almost smell the coffee and the noice from the costumers. And a calm and hamonic choice of colors. How have you made the vertical stripes in the café?
kermit Posted September 12, 2013 I like the very modern feel of the interior and the exterior design of the buiding is grest too. You did a nice little job with the dumpster in the back.
Redhead1982 Posted September 12, 2013 I prefer the interior to the exterior, but both look great. The choice of colours is interesting, and it's partly reminiscent of different flavoured types of coffee drinks. The front of the caffe with black walls and lots of large glass surfaces is (for me) the highlight of the facade. After observing it, I still find new details. I like the effect of the vertical grill plates, and the niche of the entrance surrounded by narrow glass walls. The interiors looks great in the coffee/cream colours - specially the wall design with plates to accentuate a part of the walls. Also, the hanging lights and wall decorations above the couch area are a nice touch. I'm not familiar how accountant's office should look like, but your place looks both cozy and effective at the same time. Great work!
lightningtiger Posted September 12, 2013 'Kristel'.....that is totally AWESOME ! It's the simple interior details that sell it.....the bench seating in the cafe, the kitchenette in the computer room and that classic looking boardroom table........I it ! I can't wait to see your next creation 'Kristel'.......Brick On !
kevin8 Posted September 12, 2013 Very nice interior design. I like the colors too. Great work! The rear little courtyard is a classy touch.
jimmynick Posted September 12, 2013 Very well done, Kristel! I like the little black facade you've put for the cafe - it makes me think of wrought iron. The interior is excellent as well. Is the facade on the upper floors tan or dark tan? I can't really tell.
monsinjor Posted September 12, 2013 Beautiful cafe. Very modern. I like it The back side is also great.
timmyc1983 Posted September 12, 2013 Another wonderful modular building. The black façade of the cafe is my favourite part of the exterior, it really 'pops'! I love the little back section of the cafe too, so much detail in that enclosed space is pure genius The interior is fantastic, I can't really pick a favourite part of the interior as it's all so good!! I love the colouring and the use of the plates in the cafe, so I guess that's my favourite part of the interior Anyway, I look forward to your next build, happy building
RoxYourBlox Posted September 12, 2013 Very stylish! I especially like the facade of the first floor cafe and the color scheme within. The dumpster in the back is also a nice touch! Minor suggestion-- I see you have 1x1 plates on the top edges of the 2nd and 3rd floors. To lock sections together without plates sticking to the wrong floor when you pull them apart, the number of studs attached to the floor you want should be greater than that of the opposite (separating) floor. Using a 1x4 tile w 2 studs is one example to do this, but there are other ways, too. This is a minor problem on Lego's Town Hall & Palace Cinema.
eurotrash Posted September 12, 2013 (edited) Spectacular! I'm totally digging the facade, the SNOT multi-colored wall decorations on the ground floor (and the way you sacrificed some interior space to get those interior walls just right), the courtyard at the back (crikey! it's even got a freakin' fountain!) and I love the dumpster. Tip of the hat to you! /Edit/ I've just noticed the unwashed Red mug in the sink upstairs! Nice detail. Edited September 12, 2013 by eurotrash
castor-troy Posted September 12, 2013 Great modular... as always. I like the black façade too and the original decoration on the ground floor. Bravo. What else ?
TheLegoDr Posted September 12, 2013 Once again, color me impressed. The exterior appears very simple, yet it works on so many levels. I love the window facade on the main level and the little bit of black jumping out compared to the rest of the building. The interior of course speaks volumes. I like how you incorporate a setting into your builds instead of a blank, empty building. I'm (not) surprised regarding your front entrance with the side windows. I actually thought about doing that with another modular I was building. Good minds think alike it seems.. The interior decoration works really well. But I think my favorite part is the fountain in the back. That looks really well done and I can actually picture similar looking fountains in the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri. I already have a corner modular built with a fountain, but haven't taken pictures yet. But I like your fountain too. Keep up the great work.
Faefrost Posted September 12, 2013 Just gorgeous. It looks like it could be sitting in mid town Manhattan at any point over the last 50 or 60 years. I love the colors and the clean architectural details. So simple but they really pop.
paostmo Posted September 13, 2013 My favorite is the little courtyard in back and the big blue dumpster.
The Dutch Guy Posted September 13, 2013 Congratulations Kristal, you've did it again. A very good looking building out- and inside. i like the inside the best. Very creative, specialy the cafe. Great job.
Kristel Posted September 13, 2013 Thanks everyone for the the really nice comments. It means a lot to me. Another beautiful from your hands. I can almost smell the coffee and the noice from the costumers. And a calm and hamonic choice of colors. How have you made the vertical stripes in the café? Thanks, Chocolatecake! The stripes are 1x2 plates attached perpendicularly to a 1x1 brick with extra knob, with the last one being a tile. I have done up some screen shots, but flickr is down at the moment. I prefer the interior to the exterior, but both look great. Great work! Thanks, Redhead! I think the setup is a little outdated for modern accountants' offices, with the large office for the boss, but it's very much what many our state government offices still look like. Very well done, Kristel! I like the little black facade you've put for the cafe - it makes me think of wrought iron. The interior is excellent as well. Is the facade on the upper floors tan or dark tan? I can't really tell. Thanks, jamesn! It's dark tan on the outside. I'm still using natural light for my photography and it was particularly bright in a few of the shots. Very nice interior design. I like the colors too. Great work! The rear little courtyard is a classy touch. Thanks, kevin8. The courtyard is inspired by one of the "PieFace" cafes in Brisbane. It has a relaxing little courtyard out the back similar to this, but without the fountain. Very stylish! Thanks RoxYourBlox! I realised too late that some of the plates had comes off like that. Will try the 1x4 with two studs next time. Spectacular! Thanks eurotrash! The dirty mug in the sink at work is a pet hate of mine, but sure enough someone always does it thinking the fairies will come and clean up for them.

Hobbythom Posted September 15, 2013 Kristel... wow! The interiors, the black facade.. I'm stealing it.. all of it! Great job!
Hoexbroe Posted September 15, 2013 Really impressive and clean build. The interior decorations are top-notch!
ER0L Posted September 15, 2013 It's all very fine as usual but what really stands out for me is the facade of the café which looks very classy. I guess using the modified bricks 1x2 with grille is the detail that makes this area look that delicate, plus that nice combination of framed and non-framed window-panes. And of course I love the large windows which brighten the interior so that you can see what's going on in there. Great job!
Kristel Posted September 16, 2013 Thanks for the kind words, Hobbythom, Hoexbroe and ER0L! I'm glad you like it.
