The lion tribe does indeed have female members, featured as far back as the first episode of the Show, if I recall correctly.

I just really want a female Raven personally. I'd already know how to use her.

Nope. The slope/dress lions are all male elders. At first it was like Ewald all over again. but then the "Hy-bear-active" webisode came out.

I kinda knew Riona was a female, and boy does she look cool.

On the female Raven subject, one was mentioned in the show.

'My mother was a Raven, and my father was an Eagle.' -Reegull

EDIT: How does one pronounce Rhinoa? Rhi-own-a, or Ri-on-a?

The Legend Beast looks awful. I was hoping they would release something more like this, or even like the Fenris Wolf from the Viking line. Instead we got a super boxy, goofy looking wolf. Disappointing.

So you prefer robotic-looking animals with specialized head sculpts to go with your blocky minifigures?

Honestly, I understand why some people would prefer Legend Beasts they can use with their other LEGO animals in a zoo or circus. But if the animals are going to be brick-built, I'm glad they use simple and volumetric brick-sculpting techniques like this theme has done so well with, versus skeletal BIONICLE-like builds. A specialized head sculpt might have improved the look, but even so these are a lot more faithful to the spirit of LEGO building: building lots of things with the same basic parts.

Except the minifigures aren't totally blocky. Their heads and arms are quite smooth and curved while the torso and legs are more blocky. They look great with molded creatures that aren't that blocky at all such as the wargs, bears, eagles, horses, etc. I would definitely prefer a robotic looking animal if it actually looked like a wolf or gorilla or whatever Lego was trying to replicate rather than a silly bunch of card board boxes connected with some lame stickers slapped on. Faefrost pretty much described the Legend Beast perfectly, they look like crudely put together, painted cardboard boxes that young children created. It's a shame too because I generally like the other Chima builds, but then again they are a lot more intricate and detailed and look more like the animals they are trying to mimic while still looking robotic. Just my opinion.

But the thing is, the legend beast sets have PLENTY of curves. I've built the wolf legend best on LDD with some minor part substitutions (1x2 bows instead of 2x2 and various other modified plates instead of the new joints) and it's quite streamlined and elegant -- at least as much so as many classic LEGO animals like the horse, shark, and crocodile. Speaking of which, the crocodile legend beast actually has MORE curves than its prefab counterpart.

As I have said before, the legend beast sets would not have been possible without the wide range of small bow elements currently available. Those are what keep them from looking like "cardboard boxes" and give them more naturalistic sorts of curves, like typical minifigure animals.

The better-quality renders make them look a lot better, although there's a rather egregious rendering error in the images for 70125 Gorilla Legend Beast. Can you spot it?

Interesting also that the minifigures are the 2013 designs — not the new 2014 designs like we've seen for Eris.

EDIT: More pics for the other sets, too.

Thanks Aanchir and legomilk for those images!

Overall I like the sets, but 2013 was a hard year to live up to, considering how good it's sets were. My favorite and definitely must buy is 70132, Scorms scorpion stinger.

The Wolf Legend Beast pic also has one of the back legs disconnected. My guess is that the out-of-box images were originally meant to be "assembly pics" that show how the parts go together, but someone decided pics of the fully-assembled sets would be better and hastily shopped the "separated" body parts back onto the sets.

Thankfully, it doesn't afflict the box art.

The legend beasts definitely look better than there preliminary pics. I know I'll be grabbing the lion and crocodile legend beasts. But only for the new teeth and claw pieces along with the mixels ball joints. I may even grab the wolf as well. I don't care much for the gorilla or eagle but I might get them if they go on sale. Still no pics of Lavertus' outland base. And is the lion head used on Shadowind the same one Lavertus has?

The Legend Beasts are much better than I expected, though it looks like Cragger is crushing that poor crocodile under his weight because of those short legs.

Yep. This confirms the rumor that they are one and the same. You can look at the corner art on the boxes to compare.

Love the look of the new sets! The Legend Beasts look SO much better than the prelims (not that I was really complaining, mind you).

According to this Brickset article, there is going to be a Legends of Chima book that includes an exclusive minifigure. Dom de La Woosh and armored Shadowind are the most likely candidates (Shadowind even more so, now), being that it would be a shame to have just one bear or beaver.

I doubt it would be Dom, unless his figure is released in the Summer, as he requires new moulds.

An alternate costume for a major character is also more typical of these kinds of books than a new, never-before-in-sets secondary character. Compare the exclusive figures from the Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Ninjago books by Dorling Kindersley. All of them are major characters who already appeared in sets, but in uniuque costumes. Unless one of the other major Chima characters has appeared in a significant alternate costume in the show, Shadowind is a very good guess.

DAT EAGLE LEGEND BEAST

I want a couple of these, and all the legend beasts have improved from the prileminarys.

Overall though, I'm kinda disappointed with the minifig selection this year, it's like they toned it down to a few characters and it doesn't give the sense of war that the previous waves have had.

EDIT: The legend beasts are wearing saddles and armor! This is promenent on the Lion legend.
