Is the Chima flywheel compatible with Technic?

Does anyone know if the Chima metal flywheel with rubber tire can be driven by Technic gears? Obviously one would have to remove the flywheel from its housing, but evidence on Flickr suggests that it's not too hard to remove it.

There's been a few MOC's on TBB recently using the wheel, but all have the wheel in it's housing.

Thanks! I've seen some of the TBB posts, and I could certainly see a use for the whole assembly for something like a gyroscope. Presumably it could be spun up using another wheel and tire that were powered. For my particular project, though, the wheel would only be useful if I can remove it from its housing and drive it with a Technic gear.
