Not greener, I'd say, but green nevertheless

Sometimes I like to surf around the net looking for toys from my childhood. I'm usually around Lego, GIJoe and Playmobil, which are my faves (with the occasional stop at Transformers and Masters of the Universe).

Recently (just yesterday, to be true) I stumbled across the new Playmobil website. So I decided to check the sets there. I went for Western, which is the one Playmobil theme I really love, but then I decided to check the other themes as well. The one I checked first was Knights (Castle/Kingdoms in Lego-speech). And I have to say I'm impressed.

I don't know if I was looking at a new faction or not, but Playmobil has this very nice Lion knights. I was really surprised by the colours and heraldry of these guys. The colours and heraldry were the first things to strike me, but the weapons, armours and overall sets are really nice too.

I'm not sure if it's me, but Playmobil Knights look a little more realistic than their Lego counterparts (I'm talking about weapons, armour and gear general appearance, not colours or heraldry). I'm not saying that they are better, but they are just as nice, I guess.

I don't know if any of you guys is into Playmobil too, but if you like the Dark Ages, castles, kingdoms and the like, I think it's worth checking Playmobil. Also, Playmobil sets are great to use as models for your own Castle MOCs (check thecivilian buildings!).

Here are some links:

* Yellow Lion Knight Leader;

* Yellow Lion Knights;

* Lion Knights Troop.

There are castles, houses and other sets for the Lion Knights and for the other factions too -- civilians included. you can check the whole theme by clicking in here.

I've been a fan of Playmobil and G.I. Joe for a long time, too--always wished Lego would do like Playmobil and offer extension sets to make a bigger castle. They came close with LOTR Uruk-hai set. Maybe someday?

I think I still have a box of old playmobil from when I was a kid. I grew out of it like a lot of toys, I guess it didn't have the same feel that LEGO does.

The western ones were pretty cool though.

I'm glad Lego released the lone ranger, but I do wish Lego released a western theme .

I was introduced to Playmobil at a toy store by my friend and his dad. It did not appeal to me. It looked like what themed Lego would be if it wasn't a building toy. I never got a Playmobil set myself, but my younger brother got one half a year ago as a birthday 9th birthday gift, and he thought the same thing as I did.

Well, to say something in agreement; I also like to look up old toys, films, etc from childhood. Hotwheels was probably my second-favourite most of the time. Too bad that I didn't know about these databases like Brickset back in those days.

Hi

i bought for my son (4yo) the Lion castle and some smaller knights sets. Its is great. Unlike Lego it is more focussed on roleplayingthan on building. I had in my childhood time the castle as well but the changed the locking mechanism. Now the connctors can not break and destroy the whole wall element anmore.

I recommend the Playmobil DS direct service. You can get there spare parts, single figs and dicontinued sets/parts.

An example for castle theme (in german):

http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-DE-Site/de_DE/Search-Show?cgid=DS_ARTIKEL#cgid=Ds_Ritter

You see all the buildings (except the expansion sets for the castles) areold style from the '80.

I once got a Playmobil pirate ship for Christmas or something, many years ago. I still have it, displayed on the top of a cupboard in my living room :laugh:
