This is incredible, seems like TLC is making 16 minifigures out of the movie... So this means Panda Guy, Abe Lincoln, the Mermaid can fit THIS category. More: when they say new-again... are we getting the space guy again? I am totally excited! Ops I were so excited that I added a "e" to the topic! :D Edited January 1, 2014 by Rufus Information updated
just2good Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) From FBTB: Inspired by pivotal scenes in the film and starring key LEGO minifigure characters, a collection of 17 LEGO building sets will deliver all of the “THE LEGO MOVIE” action to the playroom. Fans will delight in highly detailed and functional vehicles and structures that reflect the creative versatility of the movie’s many LEGO themed backdrops, such as City, Wild West, and Space. Comic-Con International attendees in San Diego, California will see the first “THE LEGO MOVIE” building set unveiled at the LEGO booth (#2829) on Saturday, July 20. First set (click to see high-res picture): Discussion for sets based on the 2014 The LEGO Movie belong here excluding The LEGO Movie Collectable Minfigures, where there is a topic here. jluck Posted July 16, 2013 So let's start speculating on what minifigures will get! haha really though I think this could be an awesome series...will it be a sequential series (say Series 12) or will it be an additional release (such as the olympics series)? The Joker1 Posted July 16, 2013 17 sets! Surely not at once, That would be a huge knock to my Lego Budget. Hoping for a few totally mad sets that we are unlikely to see otherwise. Anyway it sounds good so far.
jluck Posted July 16, 2013 It looks like the set discussion has already started here and this is where we get to discuss the minifigures

Sandy Posted July 16, 2013 Great to know! I was sure TLG would promote their movie in set-form, but a whole collectable minifig series as well? All the better!
jodawill Posted July 16, 2013 (Hey, this is my first post. Howdy, howdy, howdy.) I'm really hoping they release all the classic minifigures, like some cavalry guys and the 1980s space men. I just hope they don't try to do anything cute with it, like make the 1980s space man's paint look old like it is in the movie (which is fine for the film, of course) or update the classic minfigures to make them more modern. I would be so happy if they are creating some new sets that fit in perfectly with the original themes. They could make a saloon with Flatfoot Thomson, Dewey Cheatum, and Black Bart in there getting drunk! haha. (As a side note, when I was younger, I never noticed that "Dewey" sounds like "Do we," as in "Do we cheat 'em?")
just2good Posted July 16, 2013 All I want from this Collectable Minifigure Series is that Johnny Thunder from the trailer. Doubt he's in the movie, but I'd love a Pepper Roni minifigure too.
badbob001 Posted July 16, 2013 I've been envious of all the licensed fleshy minifigures due to the unique parts and patterns, but they are not compatible with my yellow minifigure parts collection. So FINALLY there will be recent movie-related LEGO minifigures using the yellow-skin minifigures. I will definitely want the hair piece of the female lead character. So FINALLY there will be recent movie-related LEGO minifigures using the yellow-skin minifigures. I will definitely want the hair piece of the female lead character. I'd really like to have all the Lone Ranger minifigures in yellow. This is the first licensed theme I've been really excited about because I've always been a huge fan of the Wild West theme (I have a HUGE Wild West collection, and Fort Legoredo was the first big set I ever owned). I would really love to make a Zorro MOC with the Lone Ranger's head, but I don't want to use the skin tones.
jodawill Posted July 16, 2013 I'm very excited to see what they're going to do with the western theme. I'm really hoping for some sets that fit perfectly with my classic Wild West sets. (Or if not the sets, at least a lot of the parts, especially the old log wall pieces and minifigures.)
AyliffeMakit Posted July 16, 2013 All I want from this Collectable Minifigure Series is that Johnny Thunder from the trailer. Doubt he's in the movie, but I'd love a Pepper Roni minifigure too. Or an updated version of the Infomaniac. :-)
jodawill Posted July 16, 2013 Or an updated version of the Infomaniac. :-) Or how about a minifigure of the Lego Maniac from the '90s? Remember how white his skin was?
jluck Posted July 16, 2013 I assume the licensed characters will not be included in the minifigure set so who will we get? Here are some of my thoughts, Emmet Lucy 1980-something Space Guy Vitruvius Mermaid (though it seems a little too soon after the previous one) Metalbeard President Business Michelangelo's sculpture from the trailer (ok this is just wishful thinking now) Any other ideas? ResIpsaLoquitur Posted July 16, 2013 I suspect that we won't get any licensed sets in this series...but wouldn't it be great if we got an orange Batplane for Emmett?
pjonze Posted July 16, 2013 I'd wager on an Emmet minifigure of some sort - what with him being the lead.
Legomaster34 Posted July 16, 2013 If I can get an Abe Lincoln Minifigure my life will be complete.
tkatt Posted July 16, 2013 Johnny Thunder, Panda, and Abe Lincoln. What about the old style Smiling Ghost?
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted July 16, 2013 Very intrigued by the whole "new-again" entries here. I'd think there's gotta be some classic space in there, or Blacktron. Johnny of course. Who else?
Yooha Posted July 16, 2013 We absolutely don't know what characters will be in the movie, maybe we haven't seen half of them. But from the trailer, I would love Michelangelo (the artist, not the turtle) and the 80's space guy with ragged space logo of course. And Batman in an orange outfit
just2good Posted July 16, 2013 Just noticed this little gem from the set: Magma stud.
