high & low ratio gearbox

hi guys!

im away from my legos for some days but i have something i didn't show you :)

this is my idea for a high and low ratio gearbox for a 4x4 that im doing....

i think it's nice because it's only 3 studs wide and it's 5 studs from the input to the output

it also hosts a free axle for an eventual second function such as a steering system

I guess I will have to build it to see! :D

Great job on its compactness

Edit: After following the path of motion using my "imagination" :P I have a feeling that the torque will separate the 8t from the 24t for the low gear. Have you tested this? Could be wrong tho. :D

yea it could be but it has to be braced someway to the chassis so it doesn't dismount :P

hmmm not yet and i can't even test anything for now...

anyway i will connect the gear selector to the rear differential so when the low ratio is selected the differential gets locked for a better climbing

If you used a driving ring extension piece, you could save some gears, the second layer of axles and gears would be gone, and it would be only one stud longer. Your solution is too complex for such a simple thing.

Was the gearbox (transpher case 1) in this pic what you was thinking of?

How it can be 3 stud wide with old 4 stud differantial? :classic:
