[MOC] Post-Apoc Transport "The Pelican"

Recommended Posts

The future.

The world is overrun by zombies. (We're talking 28 Days later/World War Z zombies, not slow stumbling ones.) :pirate_skel1:

How can I keep my gf and two dogs safe???

My first thought is either by air, or by sea... A flying boat it is!

I made this over the past month or so, I hope you like it! C&C welcome and appreciated :classic:

(Sorry for the picture quality!)

The Pelican

8749494768_8938023980.jpg

8749494722_01757a249f.jpg

On either side of the fuselage is an escape hatch, and a canopy

8749494772_5c367bf6ae_m.jpg8749494824_f558020d6d_m.jpg

Powered by two massive custom engines, with wide props designed for maximum pull

8748370899_7fc5c3f5b0.jpg

8748370919_82236d12e2.jpg

In between the engines on the top of the plane is a custom quad-tank Nitrous injector which feeds directly into each engine. Quick getaways are a must when there are zombies in pursuit... Also helps in situations where there isn't much water to take off from.

Behind the Nitrous injector is a small communications array

8748370957_df6b02f836.jpg

In the rear is a ramp which descends to unload the Rhino (we'll get to the Rhino in a bit)

8749494868_c8c63f4a3d_m.jpg8749494870_9f3024f73f_m.jpg

In between the engines is the observation deck/quarters

8748371085_b93a62f373.jpg

On the right is a computer, in the middle is the bed, and on the left is a telescope for making sure there is none of the undead lurking on the shore...

The Interior

8748371219_7b23de0944.jpg

In the front of course, is the flight deck

8749494964_5fd6fe520c_m.jpg8748371267_cfe57345e8_m.jpg

On the left of the interior is the armoury

8749495156_850a169c02.jpg

On the right is the medical station, with a stretcher and the critical syringes of anti-bite for when a zombie gets a little too close...

8749495066_36ce69c5aa.jpg

In the rear is the Rhino bay

8748371301_d07e6eced0_m.jpg8749495072_aa05605e7b_m.jpg

What could that small opening above the floor be???

8749495102_3661e83d25_m.jpg

That's right! You guessed it! The doghouse!

8749495114_ffafbfb4e5_m.jpg

Let's open the hatch and have a look inside...

8749495142_0ba617d982_m.jpg8748371413_6669c7433c_m.jpg

Half of the inside is the doghouse, with an A/C/Heater unit. There is also a food dish, and a water bowl which feeds from a tank in the cabin

8749495178_fd0d2be7eb.jpg8748371367_30e6fc1011_m.jpg

The other half is shared by the Nitrous tank recharge station, and the safe. (I know, who needs treasure in the apocalypse, but whatever!)

8749495190_fd0d2be7eb_m.jpg8748371481_c5da93fbf9_m.jpg

The rear section is reserved for my all terrain vehicle, the Rhino.

The Rhino

8749494418_66c9a3fa4b_m.jpg8748370837_1e8f066528_m.jpg

The engine, as you could have guessed

 has a Nitrous tank for quick boosts of speed when needed

8749494482_23b97a0695.jpg

And away we go!

8748370845_851cb34a0c_m.jpg8748370789_83cb1c950a_m.jpg8748370819_aa57de5154_m.jpg

Thanks for looking! To end things off, I made a small diorama so we could slaughter some zombies...

8748370603_cc820cdc1e.jpg

I prefer the shotgun approach...

8749494348_cc36cca1be.jpg

While my beb prefers the flamethrower

Thanks for checking it out!!!!!

As someone who spends far too much time thinking about how to fend off dinosaurs, zombies and giant spiders, I love this. The really bold lines and exaggerated detail gives it a cartoon quality with good dose of dieselpunk. Nice work!

Very neat plane-boat? boat-plane? no wait, flying boat, B34TBOXX5! Looks like a real brute, especially with it's own landing craft. I also like the scenery with the busted car and the attacking zombies. Using that plant piece was a really neat effect :classic:

I've seen the red plant/bush used as blood spray a few times, it wasn't my idea. But I did try and make it a bit more original by adding the red pieces on the back :classic:

It looks like a rainbow MOC at first, one of the most hated phenomena in the LEGO community. Then you realize how much sense that makes if you're just cobbling something together in an emergency. Then you realize that every single technique used in this MOC is pure genius.

EDIT: And then you look at the interior and realize that this thing is 72313x as awesome as you thought it was.

Ah, this would've been the first time I've seen that. It really brings the MOC to life :classic:

The vehicles here are awsome even without the post-apoc treatment. Your story makes it that much better. I like your characters and you even saved some rations for your dog and gave him a nice place to sleep.

I even love the gratuitous violence in your diorama. Burning zombies and blasting their guts out seems like a lot of fun.

What a great comment DraikNova, I really appreciate that!

Thanks guys! :classic:

I built the Rhino before the plane was finished, and had to modify the back end to be taller to accommodate it. I wanted a vehicle to be able to come out of the back, but it ended up being larger than I intended...

Pretty awesome! I'm almost positive my first thought in just about any situation is "boatplane".

Wow... I saw this the other day and dismissed it as i headed out the door... So many colors... It must have been built by some kid.

Fortunately for me I wanted to take another look and I am so glad I did. Nova hit the nail on the head. So much Awesomeness!

Congrats on the awesome build! I look forward to seeing more of your work

Hahaha this "rainbow moc" thing is killing me... I guess I should have toned it down a bit. I wanted to add greens because the hull is green, the reds are from the engines and the small "Canadian Flags", as well as the details inside the canopy. As I was building it all of the colours made sense to me, but looking at the plane from a distance now I should have made them flow a bit better. But I know for next time!!! Thanks for the nice words, Grazingcattle :classic:

Nice using the boat hull to make a seaplane! The only thing that would make it better in my opinion would be if you added a 120mm cannon, like the flying boat in "The Expendables II" had.

I'm diggin' the whole concept idea; postapoc seaplane + survivors + guns etc.

Love the use of that hull, but I can only advise you to give it another go...

Try and combine different shades of grey to get a more overall cohesive color tone. And use other colors to make things stands out.

Let seperate elements (such as the engines) flow/connect to the body, so it makes a more complete build.

Anyway, right now it looks more like a mock-up to me, I bet this can be a stunner.

LOVE this idea. And I really like your cockpit design. Those captains chairs are sweet!

Yeah, there aren't really any weapons on the plane I should have added a turret or something...

Thanks for the input Zenn, I already took it apart but I definitely will take your advice and separate the colours better for my next MOC! :classic:
