"Apologies, Ambassador Luneth. I shall not intrude on your company any further, but thank you for your indulgence"

Nyx curtseys once more and makes her way over to the Ziegried clan to stand next to Thothwick.

"Sirs, Madams, I... hope very much that you remember me. I am Nyx, a Mage, and a long time ago I visited your great house to help investigate your Matriarch's disappearance. Once more, I am at your service."

She just about manages to keep her composure, but all the while she is thinking of how much she could learn from this family, and how much she would have loved to have grown up as part of this family. This great family, with all their knowledge, must be kept safe.

"Yes, I remember you, Miss Nyx. Grandmother, this is one of the heroes that helped us find you on the night when Father perished."

heroicanpc-zeldaziegfried2.jpg

"Ah, pleasure to meet an aspiring young mage! Without you and your friends, Abraxas would have gained a hold of my family for good. I remain eternally thankful to you. I must say, you remind me when I was much younger, back in Salmanda. Black used to be my colour of choice as well, whereas my best friend Salome always wore white. Miss Nyx, if there is anything we can do to advance your career, just say the word. It is time for the Ziegfrieds to stop hiding in their mansion and share their arcane knowledge with the rest of the world."

Boomingham winks at Lorcan. "Who says I'm not a distinguished guest? How has Olegia been treating you, chap?" He offers the rowdy boy a seat.

"Ah look, the Wizarding clan. What do you think of the batch, Mumbassa? Lorcan? I fear I'm only familiar with their children, who, perhaps not shockingly, have remained at home for the evening. And do either of you know anything about the man with the goofy hat? Anyone we should be inviting to drink with us?" Boomingham sips his own wine. "Lorcan, will you be having something to drink tonight? Surely you must!"

Boomingham watches as the red haired man (Goldraum) teeters a little. "Chappo, need a table to sit at and people to mingle with? Come join us!"

I love the hat for Guffington.

I take one step back in slight awe as the formidable figure gallops near us. I quickly collect myself...

"Hello, sir. Is there anything you'd like?"

"Not much, only our Salmandan friends told that the Witch of Kalakita Bog disappeared from her swamp about a month ago. I worry my poor boy may be lost forever..."

Thothwick nods sombrely at the news.

"Those dastardly witches, they can be so slippery. I'm sure some news will reveal itself before too long. I just wish there were measures in place to prevent this from happening in the future, don't you all agree?"

"Kiray I wonder what's going outside. It seems the guest are coming, we should redouble our efforts, nice job by the way , keep it up" Arnulf told fellow knight. He knew how hard was his first quest. That sadistic pig, and seeing Karie robbed of her sences. Arnulf caught himself thinking of her. Where is that devil, I bet she's in some trouble. Enough of that , time to concentrate.

Nyx listens with barely concealed rapture at the words of the Grand Wizardine.

"You honour me too much." Nyx blushes "I cannot express how I feel to talk to you, Ma'am. I confess, I am ambitious, and eager to learn and master my craft. I would like to train in the ways of the Necromancer, and I believe the knowledge your family has nurtured over the years and generations holds the key to that. You would find me a most keen and dedicated student."

Nyx bows her head once more, falling silent, not wishing to impose upon the family's time at the party.

"Hmm...", Grimwald muses quietly, stroking his hairy chin. "What if we were to secretly make it so one of these assistants has a little... accident? That chap over there with the breadsticks seems to be a bit clumsy-like, one of you could maybe... trip him up? I'd do it meself, but you know, eheh, stubby legs and all..... I wouldn't normally want to do such a thing, but I think that a situation like this calls for dastardly endeavours."

Kiray shakes her head, her head feeling numb from her intense concentration. She walks looks at the spices being used.

Kiray has no expertise on spices. She would have to taste them to see if there was anything wrong with them.

Arthur also takes a peek into the hallway to see if the guard is still OK.

The guard is still in his place in front of the door. Seeing him scratch his balls makes Arthur turn his gaze quickly back to the dark rider.

"Hello, sir. Is there anything you'd like?"

The black-armoured knight stops, and raises his sword. The ghoulish horse neighs eerily.

Boomingham winks at Lorcan. "Who says I'm not a distinguished guest? How has Olegia been treating you, chap?" He offers the rowdy boy a seat.

heroicanpc-lorcanhinckwell.jpg

"Just business as usual. It's not easy being the heir to the wealthiest merchant family in the Crystalline Sea. If you hear rumours saying that the Hinckwell fortune is declining, don't listen to them! They're just nasty lies spread by the Shadeaux and their allies. Although apparently I'm supposed to act all chummy with the bats soon...I really don't understand what made my father agree to that deal!"

Surely you must!"

heroicanpc-mumbasa.jpg

"I'm sorry, I'm very uneducated when it comes to who's who in Eubric. Feel free to enlighten me, though."

heroicanpc-lorcanhinckwell.jpg

"Mages make me nervous. Fireballs and merchandise rarely mesh well together. And the man with the hat is none other than the Great Gerald Guffington. They say his riches extend beyond even those of my family, but if they do, he sure hides it well. But yes, a drink would be nice right about now!"

A waiter hurries to bring Lorcan a cup, as well as fill Mumbasa's. Boomingham gives the stingy servant a nasty look.

Boomingham watches as the red haired man (Goldraum) teeters a little. "Chappo, need a table to sit at and people to mingle with? Come join us!"

The tipsy mage walks to the group of men.

heroicanpc-goldraumziegfried.jpg

"Does any of you know what a man has to do to get a drink in here?"

"Those dastardly witches, they can be so slippery. I'm sure some news will reveal itself before too long. I just wish there were measures in place to prevent this from happening in the future, don't you all agree?"

heroicanpc-mabelziegfried.jpg

"My experience with witches has never been positive, I can tell that much. But Goldraum, where are you going?!"

Mabel sprints after her husband, and the other Ziegfrieds are led to their table by the maitre d'. The golem stops Thothwick and Nyx before they can talk to the wizards more.

heroicaquest66-maitred.jpg

"Quit disturbing the guests. You are starting to cause a scene. I don't want any of that."

The Kappa Quartet takes the stage once again and start playing an upbeat melody as the final guests make their entrance.

heroicaquest66-jipei.jpg

heroicanpc-bilbert.jpg

"Ambassador Ji Pei, a warm welcome! Unfortunately the etiquette dictates that no personal guards or soldiers may enter the Ball. We have organized our own, politically neutral guards to...

heroicanpc-shanxianjipei2.jpg

"Do you mean Lee Long? Non-sense! He is not only my bodyguard but the only family I have left now that my son Jun is..."

heroicanpc-leelong.jpg

"Show some decency, sir! It took a lot out of Lady Shanxian to even come here tonight during her mourning period. Not like you uncultured people would know anything about that..."

Bilbert Wigglepike glanced warily at Captain Patricia, who pouted her lips but eventually gave a nod of approval.

heroicanpc-bilbert.jpg

"I sincerely apologize. Of course Mr. Long may escort you tonight, Ambassador. Our city owes you a great debt for all the restoration projects you have performed in the old parts of the city."

heroicanpc-shanxianjipei2.jpg

"Thank you, Mr. Wigglepike. I wonder if I can ever design another building in my life, the loss of my only son weighs so heavily in my heart..."

When the Aoi ambassador and her bodyguard were out of earshot from the halfling, Shanxian gave a sly look at Lee Long.

heroicanpc-shanxianjipei2.jpg

"Was I convincing enough?"

heroicanpc-leelong.jpg

"You could've fooled me with your performance of a heartbroken mother if I didn't know better."

heroicanpc-shanxianjipei2.jpg

"I am heartbroken, make no mistake of that. I just channel it to anger, not grief."

So the crafty Shanxian Ji Pei became the only guest who managed to weasel in her own guardian. Next to arrive were two of the most notable alchemists from the Guild of Invision.

heroicaquest66-invision.jpg

heroicanpc-alphonsecula2.jpg

"Ah, vhat a beautivul night! Veelth good to be out and about, doethn't it, Madame Ladybug? Thurely you vill join me vor a thwirl at the dancevloor?"

heroicanpc-madameladybug2.jpg

"Hmmm yes, it is a rare treat for us to get out of the dusty laboratories. But like you know well, hmmm, I don't dance."

heroicanpc-alphonsecula2.jpg

"Come nov, jutht a quick valthe. It'th been ageth thince I latht moved my veet to the beat!"

heroicanpc-bilbert.jpg

"Good doctors, great to have your Guild represented on this most important night. But where is your guildmaster, if I may inquire?"

heroicanpc-madameladybug2.jpg

"Hmmm, he prefers to keep away from the public eye."

heroicanpc-bilbert.jpg

"What a shame! I would have loved to meet the elusive Masked Man for the very first time."

heroicanpc-alphonsecula2.jpg

"Muahaha, iv you actually had met him, you vould not thay that! Let us enter, Madame."

The vampire doctor takes the U'kin herbalist by the arm and escorts her into the theater just as a wagon with bat emblems drives to the yard. Out steps a family of four.

heroicaquest66-shadeaux.jpg

heroicanpc-bilbert.jpg

"Count Shadeaux, how are you doing on this splendid night?"

heroicanpc-noctusshadeaux.jpg

"Trés bien, Monsieur Wigglepike. Me and mis enfants are looking fourward tu zis célébration. Tunight marks the end of a long bataille tu earn the respect of ze other 'ouses of zis city. And it iz all zanks to my belle fille, Bellanotte."

heroicanpc-bellanotteshadeaux2.jpg

"Please, père. Don't spoil the surprise."

heroicanpc-umbrashadeaux2.jpg

"I still cannot understand 'ow you agreed tu zis disgraceful arrangement, petite soeur!"

heroicanpc-nuitanshadeaux.jpg

"Me neither..."

heroicanpc-noctusshadeaux.jpg

"Ça suffit! What iz done iz done! Zis will bode well for our famille, trust moi."

heroicanpc-bilbert.jpg

"Uh... I won't keep you any longer, the festivities are about to start. Please, enjoy the night!"

When the Shadeaux have gone inside, Captain Patricia approaches Mr. Wigglepike.

heroicanpc-patriciacousland.jpg

"That's everyone, right? Now all we have to do is wait for the Wolfgang to make their move."

heroicanpc-bilbert.jpg

"You seem awfully calm about it, Captain. Anyway, I better hurry inside as well. I've got a welcoming speech to make."

heroicanpc-patriciacousland.jpg

"You do that, Mr. Wigglepike. I will stand vigil on this very spot. The Wolfgang will not slip past me ever again."

The captain's cool posture made Bilbert Wigglepike even more nervous. It was a miracle if this night did not end in an utter catastrophe...

Boomingham grins at Lorcan. "I don't trust mages much either, to be honest. As for the Guffington character... perhaps I'll have to acquaint myself with him." Boomingham watches as Lorcan raises his glass. "I've already explained to Mumbassa, but my people have a custom of allowing their friends take the first sip of their drink. It's strange, I know, but if you'd be so kind..."

The tipsy mage walks to the group of men.

"All right, Sorrow, you and I are on the Night Mare. Try to Assassinate it if you can, please. Nagure, barricade the door with your body for now; I want you to Counterstrike the Dark Night. Next Round, be sure to make a conditional action: Barricade the door with your body (do nothing) from the Back Row, unless I'm successful at Weakening him, in which case Barricade the door with your body (do nothing) from the Front Row." Arthur Casts Weakness on the Dark Night from the Back Row, repeating until successful; once successful, he attempts to Seal the Night Mare from the Back Row until successful. If he still has turns remaining, he casts Frailty on the Night Mare from the Back Row, and if by some stroke of luck he still has a turn remaining, he casts Light at the Night Mare from the Back Row.

Battle Order: (and suggested actions; confirmed actions are bold)

Boomingham sips at the wine that Lorcan offers him, and is pleased to find it poison free. The little man may be a scoundrel, but he was the closest thing to a friend in power that Boomingham had.

"Gentlemen, you'll have to excuse me. Mumbassa, if I do not see you again this evening, I will meet you at the docks tomorrow for a tour of your fabulous ship. Sea travel makes me seasick, but I can still appreciate a beautiful boat when I see one." Boomingham excuses himself from the table and scuttles around the party a little. He arrive next to Nyx and Thothwick only shortly. "Divide yourselves up. We must speak to everyone here. Ignore that nasty Maitre d'. Nyx, perhaps you would do well to speak to that blue lady who came in, Jei Pi I assume." Boomingham smiles. "I don't read much, but I did a little research on the houses before we arrived. Thothwick, you'd better speak to either of the U'Kin. I think you mentioned meeting some in Dastan. The last one I met gave me a headache. Damn accountants. Swifthorn never did track me down with a job offer. Oh, and if any danger happens, make sure that Umbra gets a sword in her hands, she can use it."

Boomingham himself continues his trajectory across the Theatre, stopping only for a moment to talk to the Maitre d'. "Chap, I respect your job, you've got to respect ours. We're trying to keep these people safe without causing a panic. Please tell your people to bring me some mulled wine if they're refusing me mead. Trust me, it is allowing me greater leverage with these people. Everyone is willing to talk over a drink."

Boomingham scampers next towards Umbra. "My dearest, I hope there are no hard feelings over our match in the warehouse. I respected you greatly then, and do so now. It is a great honor to meet you once more, I was hoping we might get the chance. I'm sure you found, upon further inspection, that we didn't actually take anything that belonged to your family. I personally didn't allow it, though that Imp I was with tried to. I have always thought of us as friendly rivals, you match my sword well, and I yours. I hope that you will be willing to dance with me at some point tonight, either with sword or in the more conventional sense. Here, take these gloves of mine as a sign of friendship, they'll compliment your outfit wonderfully." Before the beautiful young lady can get in a word edgewise, Boomingham hands her the sterile gloves that Arthur loaned him, and walks away once more.

He comes to stand next to Zelda. He bows deeply and attempts to kiss her wrinkled old hand. "Greetings, my dear. I have heard a thing or two about you from a number of friends, but have never had the pleasure of meeting you myself. My name is Lord Lawrence Boomingham of the Lost Kingdom. This is quite a brood you have here. Tell me, what do you think of the evening so far?"

"Oh, you poor dear. I myself have never been on good terms with them. I vehemently refuse to purchase from the Witch who sells her wares in the market, and try to spread the word about the evils of people like her. I'm even trying to start an organisation to raise awareness about them, but of course, it's early days yet. But with your history with these wicked people, perhaps you'd care to join? Maybe even convince some of you fellow family members do to the same. I know they'd do anything to get Bluto back, and would likely try just as hard to ensure no such similar events occurred again. We could make this dream a reality..."

Thothwick reached into his pocket, and pulled out the S.O.W membership forum, which currently contained only he and Hoptet.

"I'll leave you to think about it; I believe I'm afraid I'm required elsewhere."

Bowing, Thothwick joined his Party Leader.

"Of course, Lord Boomingham. I shall ensure your orders are followed to the letter."

The Metasimian moved swiftly over to the U'Kin.

"It's rare to meet a U'Kin outside of Dastan. Do you know I once had the pleasure of acquainting myself with the late U'Stus? Very valiant gentleman he was, too. How is Dastan, these days? Do you hear much of her comings-and-goings?"

If Dark Knight is not weakened, I do nothing from the back row. If Dark Knight is weakened, I do nothing from the front row.
