WIP: Eldorado 2013 XXL

Recommended Posts

After years of building ships I finally started building my fortress.

I'm getting inspiration from the Eldorado fortress (my #1 LEGO set) so I've called the project "Eldorado 2013 XXL".

Here are some WIP pictures:

Oh, and it's all modular for easy transportation:

Good start. But, will it hold up to the great Redcoat army?

I haven't decided yet if this will be a bluecoat or redcoat fortress

Wow! That looks impressive and massive.

Will you add a kind of dungeon under it or is it just a rock?

Looks promising :thumbup::classic:

Did you considered allowing the island to split open so you can add an interior inside the rock base like a cellar?

I might add that in a phase 2. For now I'll finish it without as the fortress needs to be ready for an upcoming event. So time is limited :classic:

Thanks everyone for your nice feedback

Here are some updated pics showing the latest progress of the fortress:

Looking good  I like the cable mechanism and the classical look!

It's also nice how some plants climb on the rocks like some sort of ivy.

Do the two minifigs on top of the building represent certain people? I'm asking because the fleshie catches your attention.

This is looking great so far! Love the crane and the steps onto the tower.

Buildings are certainly something else then ships I've come to learn.

Perhaps some slopes over the rocks can break the ''burpy'' look a bit and I would advise to use some different sorts of plantation on the rocks like the grasses. These also come in different shades of green which might further add to the realism. You could also make a small cave in the rocks with water seeping through. Lastly, tiling off the wall edges might look nice.

I can't wait to see it at our event, good luck on the build!

This is looking terrific! It has an amazing classical felling to it  The gatehouse is specially well-built.

My only suggestion so far would be to add a bit more of detail in the rock work, such as plants and so, but you are probably planning to deal with that later :classic:

Great work, faithful to the original, but 100 times better already. Looking forward to updates, and further tweaks to make this awesome!

This is awesome; particularly your last update.

Eldorado is one of my all time favourite Lego sets, so I can't wait to see what your beefed up version ends up looking like. So far, it looks excellent!

This is amazing!!! It is a perfect update for Eldorado Fortress. I even like the use of BURPS for the rock face which isn't something that I'm normally a fan of. Can't wait to see this finished.

Looks promising, only a couple of things I'd suggest, the rock base I'd add some slopes and cheese just to help it flow and it might help the transition between the different rock colours. The second would be to use some traverse bricks with dark red tiles to break up the white walls and add to the classic feel with more modern techniques. I'm looking forward to updates.

Really cool project--I love 'upgrades' of classic sets! :classic:

To my eye the gatehouse should be a bit taller (seeing as its the tallest part in the original set), or the whole fortress might end up looking a bit flat. Also, I think you should build the holes in the walls just a bit higher so that cannons can fit through them. But otherwise it looks awesome!

This is looking great, have you considered building a set of gallows (although I wouldn't know how to build one) great job anyway and I'll look forward to seeing the finished product :classic:
