LEGO LotR - general discussion

Saw to my surprise that one of our local supermarkets still had the old Hobbit Greenleaf Legolas polybags (never seen them anywhere else here in Sweden)

Mind if I ask what supermarket that was? I saw one or two in Coop over a year back, but that's it.

A store near me still has Attack of the Wargs, which is amazing, but it's twice the price, which is probably why it's still there. I hope they'll come to their senses and discount it already. Last I checked it was sitting next to a lone Triceratops Trap from the Dino theme, also double the price.

My New Lego SAURON.

Hey guys, I'm pretty new here. My kids asked me if there was a Lego Sauron, and they were pretty upset that there wasn't. So I made them one. The Helmet, armor and mace are 3D modeled, printed and cast in resin. I used a Toy Story Woody body to give him extra height, which I vinyl dyed silver.

I'm still playing around with cape ideas and leg armor stuff, but when its all ready to go I will be able to sell these. As soon as I can I'll let you all know how to purchase the whole figure.

I made this account just to ask you if you have any custom Sauron minifigures unreserved yet (I am not sure how I could pay you yet, as I don't have paypal or a credit card. Could I mail a check to you or do you live outside of the states?).

Yours is by far the best LEGO Sauron I have ever seen. I have started making my own from existing LEGO parts, but I would really like to have your Sauron's helmet and mace. I would prefer the armor just to be shoulder pads like in the Lotr video game but with a dremel I could probably fix this myself.

Please let me know, he would go perfect with my Barad Dur.

Additionally, I am also highly interested in a Witch-King and Fell Beast if you ever make them. An Olog-Hai would also be cool to have if you have the time.

I live in the US, and just finished my collection of LOTR and TH sets this last Saturday. I bought the last set I needed (Gandalf Arrives) at a LEGO resale store called "Bricks and Minifigs", for $25. Though the Middle Earth sets are a bit pricey, this store also does trades and buys your unwanted LEGO bricks, so their prices aren't that bad. I don't believe they have an internet stores unfortunately, but if you live in the US they have stores in AZ, MI, MT, NM, OR, TN, TX, WA, and WI.

If anyone is interested, here are my models LDD files namely: Minas Tirith, Barad Dur, Cirith Ungol, and The Balrog.

We will probably not get more official LOTR sets from LEGO anytime soon, so my goal is to design them.

The designs look awesome! I plan to try to build some when I have the bricks.

And.. no way! I love Bricks&Minifigs! The prices for selling are OK, as are most of the LEGO they sell. But, when I saw a row of $10 Sams and $15 Marry, Pippins and Boromirs...

I am currently rebuilding my Barad Dur and Balrog as I get the pieces. After I finish those I plan to do Minas Tirith.

I go to the one in WI and am getting to be good friends with the owner and a couple of the staff.

My plan is to build your Minas Tirith as well. Already got few hundreds bricks and some custom Gondor soldiers. So thanks for the LDD! :)

They are quite reasonable prices for those minifigs.

Hello my friend. I am a huge fan of your lotr designs. I supported all of them which are expired and was very sad that they were not chosen. I am planning to build your minas tirith and maybe barad-dur but it is too big :/. My question is, can you share your Lothlorien design with me, I would love to build it. Of course I am not going to share it with anyone else. Also I would love to get other designs if you have more :) Thank you, hope to hear from you.

Hello ali1994. I am glad to hear you like them; I will see if I can post more LDD files tomorrow, as I only have a minute now. Unfortunately, I cannot give you the file for Lothlorien though, sorry.

Here are three1 two more LOTR LDD files. I have also included a picture to kind of give you an idea of what I'm working on (their placing refers to their size).

Here are some of my Silmarillion LDD files, originally made to go with commandercody113's "movie script" he was doing on the LOTR gallery.

Thanks for sharing these Rakrondewl! They're all great, but I'm especially excited about the Silmarillion designs...there's tons of great material in there for MOCs, and yours are great examples!

Your welcome, I am glad you enjoy them. I probably will not be able to finish more until I have time after the semester ends but even then I'll be working full time; so would you guys be interested in uncompleted model files and/or my concept list? I have started several other models but have not finished them yet.

Hi there guys.

Do you think we will ever get the missing LOTR set we are all waiting for?

I am assuming you mean Minas Tirith; I don't believe we will see this in LEGO form for quite some time. Someday Warner Brothers (or is it New Line Cinema or Universal?) will remake the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films or make something related to them, but we don't know if LEGO will give the franchise another chance either. So I don't believe we will get any LOTR sets in the foreseeable future :(

Is it because the sets didnt sell well?

BTW You are very good with LDD, any chance you could give a look to my posts on the Helm's Deep thread below? Ta :)

I don't believe the LOTR sets didn't sell well, I just think it wasn't as popular with LEGO's target audience. I also think any chance of getting a third wave of LOTR sets was lost when the Hobbit was changed into three films. you see with licences, sometimes it is specified how many sets they are aloud to make and since the Hobbit had movies to boost sales, swamping the LOTR sets was the obvious choice, much to the disappointment of many fans.

You mean about your request for a slimier Helm's Deep ldd file? I have considered making one but I cannot say for sure right now if I will, I have finals this week so I am not making any promises.

My thought on why they didn't make anymore sets was because it would be hard to do. For example minas turith would have been $120-$150, osgiliath would have been $100-120, mount doom would have been around $50-$70, and maybe grond would have been $60-$70. My point is that if they wanted to do the sets "good" it would have to be expensive. No kid can buy 3 $100 sets. So it almost seemed that it was out of the question for Lego. Another one of my assumptions is that they only had licensing for 5 waves of sets. 2 for the hobbit (back when the hobbit was only supposed to be 2 movies) and 3 for lord of the rings. When Peter Jackson changed it to 3 hobbit movies Lego could only do 2 waves for lord of the rings. So sadly I don't think we were ever going to get a third wave for lord of the rings

I LOVED the LOTR and Hobbit sets. As a matter of fact I'm proud to say I own almost every minifig of importance (boromir is the only one I don't own yet). But I have all the Hobbits, all the dwarfs, all the baddies, elves, etc, etc.

I am also proud to say I own all the major sets; tower Orthanc, Helm's deep, bag end 2 black gates, both lake town sets, city of Dale set, goblin king battle, and the lonely mountain. But Smaug is really the only thing that makes that set cool. Goblin King battle isn't all that good either imo. I also have quite a few other small sets, but they are no longer together.

So ya, this theme was awesome imo.
