I thought it looked terrible. Pure CGI. But it was test so... but then again I thought Planet of the Apes (the new one) looked terrible (and it does).

Hold the phone. Have they actually, at long last, confirmed that there is a Deadpool movie?

No, it's test footage back from when they were considering making a Deadpool movie with Ryan Reynolds. It is not confirmation of a new film.

Oh. Well that's a shame. It would be good if they did make a Deadpool film, and I'm sure there's still a possibility of such a thing happening. If it doesn't come to pass, then so be it (and with Fox being Fox, I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't come to pass).

Random question (but I'm going somewhere with it), but in the Captain America post credits scene with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, was it revealed how they got their powers? Did Strucker say through experimentation or was it by Lokis Sceptre or..? I can't recall.

Experiments. Though Loki's scepter could have been involved.

On another note; could this be The Thing?

Yeah I'm a "little" upset, especially since Cassie might not be in it either. I just, words fail me. I just, she better not be dead in the film's backstory, and just - she is the only founding Avenger without a movie, without an ongoing, and I think we know why. I just - this might be my supervillain origin story. I'm hoping we can get a period piece about her, but I - I need to be alone. I just woke up, all the blogs I follow I riling me up about this, and I just...I need to think.

We pretty much never had any hope of seeing Cassie in it ala Young Avengers. At best she would or will just be what she originally was. The young child hostage that inspires Lang to become a hero. All she might be is a plot device.

Also I know you will hate me for this. But I kind of like the idea of the new movie Wasp being Jan and Hanks daughter. I understand your love of the character as she is the only female founding member of the team. But honestly? The character as written and presented for much of her history was very much a product of the Sixties. And is easily one of the more shallow female characters in the Avengers books. It's one of the little things that always has bothered me about some of the female story arcs and character development in the Avengers books. Jan is somehow held as this saint. But if you actually look at the character... She really is Paris Hilton. A little twit of a millionaire heiress who skipped school and on her best day likes to make pretty close and hang around the superhero men.

Compare that with the actual "back stories" of the other major women on the team and how they are presented. Carol Danvers, USAF Major and F15 combat pilot. Former NASA Security director Air Force academy graduate, safe implication several Masters Degrees. aka Ms. Marvel. Until very very recently mostly depicted as a boozy slut with her tits hanging out., plagued with personal issues. Jennifer Walters, Ivy League JD, celebrated and highly successful defense attorney. She Hulk, mostly depicted as slutty drunk with her green tits hanging out, also having many deep personal issues. Greer Nelson NYPD Officer and Academy Graduate. Policemans Widow who followed in her husbands footsteps and wears his badge. Licensed PI. Tigra. Mostly depicted as incompetent twit. Fetish Porn in a bikini. When she does get any characterization it seems to involve mood swings and female issues. Up until they rape her... Twice! (But look! She's the sober one!) the list just goes on from there.

And then look at the well accomplished women that Marvel's writers pretty much elevated to Madonna status in the Avengers for a good portion of its run. Jan, home schooled heiress defined by her man. Literally Paris Hilton 20 years before Paris Hilton. Yet she is the "mother" of the team. Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlett Witch, literally raised by gypsy's before being hauled off on Magneto's terrorist crusade. It is doubtful if she could even read until she started getting tutoring from Agatha Harkness 100 issues into her Avengers run. No apparent actual life or life skills outside of being the Scarlet Witch. I think she can play Cello? Yet she was for so long held up as the teams delicate Princess. Desired by all. Until she went crazy and killed everybody. Since then the teams opinions seem mixed and she is only desired by some. (Hawkeye... Most vile comic scene ever). And then we come to Mantis... (Granted Mantis evolved into a fantastic character in Silver a Surfer and GotG, but we speak here of Avengers) mantis in the Avengers was an underaged Vietnamese street orphan and prostitute who was hauled around the world by the Thug Mercenary that more or less owned her (deceased Avenger and Hawkeye mentor Swordsman) and in Avengers Lore she IS the Celestial Madonna.

Yeah some days the thought of wiping much of this clean and starting over in the MCU and redefining some of these characters a bit seems like a good one.

I agree with this. Also by making Hope become the Wasp, Janet can still be kept in continuity by not screwing with her origin story, even if she won't be the first Wasp we see on screen. As for Tigra, I have a few comics with her. I think I have her origin story where she joins the avengers? She was kinda lame. She was incompetent and I think she helped take down molecule man by basically seducing him and lying to him if I remember correctly.

Experiments. Though Loki's scepter could have been involved.

Thanks. Yeah I was trying to think how they're going to explain The Visions ability to change his density. So I was thinking maybe it'll be similar to how Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver get their powers.

Scarlett witch and quicksilver were described as 'miracles' so I guess they'll just have genetic powers, like mutants, without mentioning mutants.

I was first introduced to her in some of her earlier stories, both her actual origin from The Cat to Tigra and he follow up FF appearances. She played a major part in the rather long early 1970's Frightful Four / Brute story arc (yes I'm showing my age.) in those stories she was well depicted as sharp quick thinking and bold. With a good intelligence and good instincts. Then they added her to the Avengers as Beasts replacement... And incompetent twit began... Then came West Coast Avengers were we can add Feral Nymphomaniac and "getting between Hank and Jan" to the list, making her seem or implied to be a comic team home wrecker. Then came Brian Michael Bendis's run and the Crimson Cowl. Yeah. At that point the Ms. Marvel Puppet-master sex slave story arc was just par for the course. Sadly she wasn't the most creepy or out of line thing in that story (that would be underage Spider-Girl in the same mind controlled harem. Remember this was Ms. Marvel's solo book. Girl Power!)

Some days I really think the writing staff at Marvel needs to be medicated. Maybe those chemical castration drugs?

That'll stick it to Fox. Mutants without saying the word!

That's why I'm really hoping when we get a female led superhero movie, it's one that isn't overly sexualized. I know that's what some people want, but the characters deserve more than that. And here I am, clamoring for a Ms. Marvel movie..hopefully she's not depicted as slutty whenever she makes her way to the big screen. Her character really could make a great movie.

Yeah some days the thought of wiping much of this clean and starting over in the MCU and redefining some of these characters a bit seems like a good one.

Okay one, nice. Let's just erase the Wasp for partying. Oh wait, guess we have to erase Iron-Man too, he spends a lot of his life drunk and partying. Oh and can he be more shallow? Oh wait, he's male, we can't erase him. And you know, why have diversity in characters? Let's just have all the women be assassins with red in the ledger, or just generic butt kicking machines. I mean, we can't have a feminine hero who kicks butt, that makes no sense.

You want to know Wasp's backstory? She is a party girl, she is an heiress. Then her dad dies. And you know what she does? She immediately seeks out a scientist to get revenge. This is in the sixties. She doesn't moan, she doesn't cry, she gets on with her life and goes to Avenge him. This is probably why she chose the name Avengers. But that doesn't matter because she likes to have fun. Superheroes must constantly be dark and gritty.

And I guess we cn't have Wasp because she doesn't have skills, despite Hawkeye being utterly useless in both his appearances? Oh wait, man, its different. And she has skills. Are they "masculine skills?" No, but they exist. She designs many of the Avenger's uniforms, a lot of fans complain about stupid costumes, she could fix that. Is it masculine, no. But for Captain America or Iron Patriot, being a symbol is important. And Cap gets the most complainants in terms of clothes.

Also, I see to notice you ignoring the fact that after Cap, she led the Avengers for the longest amount of time. One of her first acts was to actually change the team from being just the white male club. She saved the team in Under Siege, after the other Avengers were all taken out.

Here's a thought, you do not have to freaking stick to the comics! For instance, in the Ultimate Universe Jan is a scientist who helps engineers the shrinking technology. And the MCU steals from the Ultimate Universe all the time; Nick Fury anyone? Or in EMH, where she still likes to party, but she is literally the heart and soul of the team. She is the one who got Cap to calm down when he woke up, she is the one who tries to stop the others from turning on each other during the Skrull Invasion, she is the one who genuinely enjoys being a superhero. And they don't hide her emotions, sometimes it gets to her. But she endures. And as the Avenger who really just shrinks, she is impossibly brave to fight monsters and gods on a daily basis. And for shallow, she is the only Avenger who stayed on the team from start to finish.

And you know what it says by making Hope the Wasp? It says women are interchangeable. That you can substitute one for the other and it doesn't change a thing.

You know what? I do hate you. Because you think its better to get rid of the real Wasp than try to focus on her better points. The MCU sucks when it comes to representation. Two African American heroes, both in the military. That isn't a stereotype at all. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, in the comics they are Romani and Jewish. In the MCU, its confirmed that they joined Hydra willingly. Two of the ethnic groups slaughter by the Nazis the most, joining the Nazis' science division. Yeah, that is a much better move. Carol Danvers...has not appeared so you have no idea if the McU will do her right. Black Widow and Gamera; seem to have very similar character types. They are assassins with red in their ledger. They couldn't have used like Quasar or Moondragon; who not only are major GotG members; but also girlfriends. But we can't have gay heroes. Victoria Hand; died before her sexuality was confirmed, so we can't count her. Sif, her characterization is inconsistent and she has yet to really do something that changes a fight or battle. Melinda May; no offense, but she is basically a generic Asian Ninja chick. Nick Fury; as my sister put it; angry black male in charge, that's progressive. Skye, literally called a Mary Sue in show, not the best representative, not to mention she is heavily westernized for someone born in China. Pepper Pots; in like her first scene she "slut shames," how wonderfully progressive to women, am I right? Betty Ross; literally everyone forgot about her. Peggy; I have no complaints. Sharon; hasn't appeared enough for us to really know about her,but the fact that she's Peggy's niece an Steve might date her is not the healthiest relationship. Maria Hill, no real complaints. And who are the Avengers? White guy White guy White guy White girl White Guy White Guy. Yeah that's much better than back in the Sixties, now there are even more white guys.

Finally watched Captain America: The Winter Soldier by a pretty good-quality stream online. The movie was very good. The story was a bit better than Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and Agents of Shield.

I don't think that's true. It looks like they're going to be Struckers children who were either born with their powers or experimented on. Also, they may be under the control of Lokis staff. The important thing about them is going to be that they choose to be good. Also, you may be taking the Janet thing a little bit too far. I don't see the problem with Hope becoming the Wasp unless you want Janet to appear as a 70 year old woman fighting with the Avengers. They chose to go with Lang, which everyone pretty much decided would be the best, so Janet never really had much hope of appearing. And if they made her younger, that would mess up her continuity with Hank and essentially a vital part of her story. Sorry if this bothers you, but I see this as the best option. Plus, Evangeline Lilly...Who knows? Maybe Hope will be the spitting image of her mother.

Where?

Black Widow and Gamera; seem to have very similar character types.

How's that a problem? Starlord and Stark seem to have very similar personalities.

Victoria Hand; died before her sexuality was confirmed

Who cares? Or are you suggesting she has no other important parts of her life other than sexuality?

angry black male in charge, that's progressive.

No. That's awesome.

not to mention she is heavily westernized for someone born in China.

So. She wasn't raised in China.

Well they are making a different guy Yellowjacket as well, so they are substituting a man and making the character interchangable.

Skye, literally called a Mary Sue in show, not the best representative, not to mention she is heavily westernized for someone born in China.

"Heavily westernized for someone born in China"? You mean kinda like the actress who plays her? Chloe "Bennett" Wang? Think this one through a little bit. You are coming down on the one major network show in western television history that has 2 Chinese lead actresses, in what are essentially non ethnic specific roles, because one of them is too stereotypically Asian? And the other is not stereotypically Asian enough? You are actually falling into a trap Wheedon and the show runners deliberately set for you with the characters. It is a form of character misdirection that Wheedon is particularly skilled at. Mae is supposed to seem a little bit of that stereotypical badass Asian chick in part to misdirect away from the other Asian in the room who is not what the viewer expects.

As far as the Jan thing. I understand your love for the character. And believe it or not she is one of my favorite Avengers. Especially in the last 10 years when they actually started giving her something to do. But that doesn't change the fact that for most of the books run she was generally written as more than a tad shallow. For most of her run she had 2 main character defining traits. "Founding member of the Avengers" and " bad taste in men". ( And don't get me wrong, that isn't always a bad thing. Heck over in Thunderbolts they took a character that began in roughly the same place and way and built her into the books most defining and heroic character. ) but you can't help but get the feeling that many of the Avengers writers were intimidated by personally accomplished woman and bundled in flaws and ways to limit them. Whereas the less accomplished more "like mom" females seemed to get the better treatment from them. The ladies who happily follow the men and are just part of the gang.

And really this is not truly limited to the women. They have a bit of this going on over with the men to. Here's a fun mental exercise when thinking of the Avengers. They are Earths Mightiest Heroes. They bring down super criminals. And then what? Is there any rule of Law in the Marvel universe? And if so which members of the Avengers would be qualified to take the stand in court and give credible testimony? Which Avengers are actually backed by the Rule of Law? When you look at it through that filter the results are kind of fascinating. The three accomplished ladies I mentioned above. Yeah they are the key members of the team that a court would recognize and believe. Add to them Monica Rambeau /Spectrum who was a New Orleans Harbor Police Lieutenant (I lost track of her hero name somewhere around Photon). Dr. Druid who was a court recognized forensic psychiatrist, and US Agent who technically is a Federal Marshall. Maybe add Captain America to the list as Federal Law Enforcement of some sort? (It's vague). But the rest? It's a fun little list when you think about it;

Millionaire Heiress Fashion Designer. Barely Literate Gypsy daughter of worlds greatest terrorist and a history of mental illness. Her brother. An Android built by an Evil Robot that wants to destroy humanity. Ex-Con Carney with a history of jailbreaks and who effectively led the Masters of Evil at one point. (But we swear they were good then). An international arms merchant with a known drinking problem a personal WMD and rather mixed conflicts of interest with his personal business. Hank Pym, who once attacked a court with killer robots while on the stand. Thor, a mythological god, for which it would take 10 years of court decisions just to prove his existence enough to swear him in. Another Mythological God with a history of violence against women. Another Mythological God with a history of violence against everybody and deep anger management issues. Speaking of Anger Managment issues I don't think we need to go into Hulk or Namor. Which brings us to the parade of assorted illegal aliens, including at least one who is a sex offender proven in court. Isn't this a fun game? It will be fascinating to see if any of these make the big screen, and how much they will change in doing so.

Is Wasp or Jan interchangeable when the character hits the movies. Well yes. They all are in one way or another. How close or far they hew to their original often has more to do with how well known the character is in pop culture. Personally I would have much rather seen the take on Wasp that Joss Wheedon wanted for Avengers. Given what we know of the Ant Man movie making Wasp Jan and Hanks daughter actually might work better than attempting to shoehorn Jan in as the lead opposite an older Creepy Michael Douglas Pym. Otherwise there is the risk of falling into that Movie Sue Storm or Gwen Stacey weirdness where the only thing they kept of the original character is the name. Because don't you know they are now brilliant scientists and stuff. ( I don't know about you all but Jessica Alba really sold the whole "hot brilliant scientist" thing to me...). As soon as Ant Man wanted to do the multi generational thing this became what is arguably the best way to do it. It allows for a potential bit of romance between the leads without any holdover ick factor from pre existing comic relationships in people minds. It organically allows the character to both have the characteristics of the classic Wasp and be modernized as the brilliant daughter of a brilliant scientist. It sheds a lot of baggage, leaves the good parts, and still leaves room for Janet Van Dyne and Hank Pym to be in the story, but to not need to play out some of the more horrible or uncomfortable bits of their stories on screen.

I don't think that's true. It looks like they're going to be Struckers children who were either born with their powers or experimented on. Also, they may be under the control of Lokis staff. Granted there is a lot of open ended speculation from that scene at the end of Winter Soldier. But Strucker does not refer to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver as his children. He simply refers to them as the Twins and part of The Children. My take is that they were a part of a larger group of children that were subjected to Hydra's experiments to create miracles. They were the only ones that were deemed a success. The rest either died or suffered horribly and were then discarded (killed) by Strucker's order. If Hydra is in Europe and has been harvesting children to experiment on, then it would logically follow that the Roma are probably the group or one of the main groups being preyed on. They exist below and mainly outside the law and disappearances of them would rarely if ever be followed up on by authorities.

Well said for that first part. Hank and Janets relationship would be a nightmare to watch on screen. Hank was never really that likeable in the first place, he always had some sort of deep internal struggle going on, hence his multiple hero aliases. Scott and Hope seem a good way to go considering their relationship could be whatever the directors choose it to be. Yay for no wife beating!

As for SW & QS I was only suggesting they may actually be Struckers own children because I'm pretty sure they chose Strucker in the first place because he had twin children in the comics that can be easily substituted with SW & QS. It'd be quite a twist if it turned out that he was experimenting on his own kids! They may just be random people like you suggest though, but I'm thinking it's a little too coincidental.

Now that I think on it, it is kind of sad that Marvel Sort of wasted Jenny Agutter as the megablocks kicking SHIELD minister in CA The Winter Soldier. She would have been dead on perfect for an older Jan opposite Michael Douglas. Her hair, her build and frame. How she moves. And the simple fact that George Perez started drawing Avengers right after he did the Marvel Logan's Run book, and you can see some real clear carryover between the two characters as he drew them. His take on the Wasp drew a lot from his take on Jenny as Jessica. It would almost be like having Samuel L Jackson play the Marvel character that is drawn to look like Samuel L Jackson.

Should be easy for this weekend for the Guardians to take the Box-Office, since they are going up against suckish movies like teenager dramas and other boring movies that makes humans go asleep.

Should be easy for next week as well to take down Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, since it's is basically Transformers with the transformers replaced by ninja turtles.

I saw GotG.

I will say this before the spoilers: DO NOT STAY FOR THE POST SCENE CREDITS! That might be a spoiler of a kind but it is literally so terrible it could make you think less of the movie.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Real spoilers:

As for the movie itself... I can't rate it bad but it wasn't that great.

-Lots of CGI that is mixed in how effective it was.

-Another completely boring and bland evil d00d who is evil just for the sake of evil. Loki remains the only good Marvel villain.

-"a-hole" was said many times. Why not say the actual word? Seemed like a forced censor.

Also the plot stuff was... weird and convenient.

In the end they literally beat the bad guy by freakin' holding hands. Groot does a weird thing that saves them via... I'm not sure... a flimsy wooden shield?

But really, I guess the main issue for me is that I didn't really enjoy the humor. I heard laughs so it's obvious people did. But it seemed so obvious. They basically try to do the unpredictable thing, playing with tropes in movies and turning them on their heads. But oddly it is completely predictable.

Going to strike a pose with the orb? Drop the orb and stumble a bit. Need to beat a bad guy? Distract him with a dance, it'll work 'cause he's an idiot. I'm tired so I won't explain it all. Maybe my mood just wasn't in the right place. I might have made a small "heh" somewhere in the movie.

Maybe it just wasn't my style. I can't say it was bad. I'd probably give it a 7.9/10 though. Humor wasn't my type of humor (possibly for my current mood, after all I loved the Lego movie the first time then found it unappealing the second due to being on a plane ;p) and the plot was weird. CGI was everywhere.

I might enjoy it a lot more with a second viewing when it comes to blu-ray. Haven't decided if I'll buy the Lego sets.

Anyway, here are my thoughts on the movie. Obvious spoilers here:

Well to put it simply, it was quite a quirky movie! A lot of things worked for me, and others didn't.

What I didn't like:

-Some of the humor didn't quite click with me, although it was still funny

-Would've liked a more substantial credits scene. Howard the Duck is not quite up to par with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. It was a hell of a lot better than the extremely disappointing Iron Man 3 credits scene though

-Not enough Nova Corps! We didn't even get to see the Nova Force! They were barely in it, and seemed pretty weak unfortunately. Also not enough of Xandar for me to care as much as I should about it being destroyed!

-Small nitpick: I don't like that Korath wasn't really a kree? He should've had blue skin or something, it didn't quite make sense that he was black.

-I didn't really care for Yondu to be honest. Maybe it was Rooker, I can't quite help but feel it was a space version of Merle  I did really like though that they kept his whistling!

-Ronan was well, lame. Better than Malekith, but not that good. I needed more backstory with him. They barely explained his whole hatred toward Xandar. I get there is a whole feud and everything between the Kree and what not, but not good enough for me. I don't get Marvels problem with Villains. Why is Loki the only great one? Granted, he had 3 movies to develop, but still! It makes me really nervous for Ultron...

-Everything was a little too convenient for our heroes.

-The climax wasn't exactly that thrilling, and I'm still trying to process how they could all harness the Power gem, but I guess it's because they shared the power between them? They also sorta explained it by saying he's not fully human, but still.

-Okay when Groot says "We are Groot" I wasn't sure how to feel. Isn't that impossible for him? I guess it doesn't bother me THAT much, and it was very touching, but maybe that's just the comic book snob deep down inside of me..

What I did like:

-To put it lightly, GROOT AND ROCKET! They completely stole the show! Groot was freaking adorable and awesome and do I need to even mention sapling Groot at the end?!!?! That was the best of the whole movie for me!

-Thanos! He looked pretty darn good to me! Also loved that The Other was there, but it really shocked me that Ronan killed him and then Thanos did nothing? I kinda liked his creepy voice and everything...now he needs a new Herald or whatever you want to call him.

-Love that they finally gave the audience some details on the infinity stones for those that don't know.

-The film had a lot of heart. The opening scene really got to me.

-It was gloriously weird and unique and definitely not something you will forget!

-One of the BEST soundtracks I've ever heard! I'm not even usually a fan of that type of retro-ish music, but this movie made me want to be!

-I loved Nebula! Good thing they didn't kill her off, she was the best villain in the movie for me (other than Thanos obviously).

-First marvel movie that genuinely felt like it jumped off of a comic book to me.

-There's more but I'm still processing everything. Usually everything I didn't quite like sticks out the first time I see a movie.

I really think this is one of those movies (for me) that I need to see again to fully appreciate! I'll admit I didn't like it as much as I thought I would, but now that I'm home and I can think about it, I'm liking it a lot more. Good thing I'm seeing it again tomorrow with the fam! :sweet: I kinda had the same thing with Winter Soldier at first, but now that is one of my favorite Marvel movies! To clarify: In no way do I think this is a bad movie. It's great, this is just the picky side of me. It's not my favorite Marvel movie, but definitely in the top 5. Even now, I'm loving the movie more and more as I typed this. I'd give it a watch and then really think about what you saw!
