I don't believe the technic ball joint can be held by a minifig.

It can.

I think the thecnic piece looks much better in a minifigs hand, looks like its properly palmed.

Although I do agree that areas of commercialism have gone too far. (making 3 films instead of 2 doesnt seem right for a book this size.) I don't think you can balme Jackson too much considering he didnt want to direct the films in the first place.

It wasn't his fault he ended up having to helm them.

Ok, that clearer picture helps sell me more on the Black Gate set. I still wish it came with a Gondorian solider or two, but the set itself is looking pretty nice. So maybe I'll go ahead and put it on my wish list for next Christmas. Never too early to start planning, right?

Also, the stand-in preliminary figure for Gandalf is cracking me up. Is this Mid-Life Crisis Gandalf, where he dyes his hair blonde to feel young again? Or maybe Gandalf the Blonde? But seriously though, the final minifigures in the little box on the bottom left look amazing and will probably be things of beauty when seen in person. I'm excited!

Fellow AFOLs at http://www.lordofthebrick.com/ have discovered a better (though still preliminary) picture of 79007 "Battle at the Black Gate" on a Canadian website. This definitely confirms the presence of both the eagle and the Mouth of Sauron

Damn it, the armored orcs looks like just normal orcs with the standard armor piece and the helmet from the fantasy/castle series some years back..... That's so dissapointing if the finished minifigures ends up being just that. The constant reuse of that orc minifigure needs to stop!

Yeah. :sadnew: Well, at least Aragorn, Gandalf, and the Mouth of Sauron look awesome.

Woah, it's a lot smaller than I thought.

LEGO designers should take same scale lessons :/

That Eagle... it disappoints me a bit. Why aren't the feet separate?

Is this a mini version of the Great Eagles or something? They're supposed to be able to pick up people;

Thorin Oakenshield, Frodo, Sam, etc... - other than that it looks pretty good, but that's one thing that would disappoint me quite a lot.

Anways, I think we can confirm Gandalf's new hairpiece now.

Are those just old helmets for the orcs with the same torso, legs, head, etc. as the ones the orcs from The Orc Forge had? More disappointment...

Not quite sure about a new sword mold for Aragorn either now, to be honest.

I agree, the base is weird. I was expecting feet :sceptic:

On another note anyone else like the addition of doorknobs on the black gate? Makes it really convenient to open it up and walk into Mordor

Also, the final version of the Mouth of Sauron's horse should look like this:

But then in LEGO, of course - so hopefully they won't go cheap on this one and actually use a new barding

and helmet for the horse, but I guess that's what we should expect from it.

If it's not an ordinary Nazgul horse, I'll be satisfied. I just hope it looks anything like that.

Guys, what You see on the box it is not how it will be,just look at Aragorn,he has a hood,Gandalf has blonde hair, except Mouth of Sauron, there shows Nazgul, and 2 Mordor orcs without armor, but look at down left corner where it shows minifigures. That's how it will be,I like Mordor orcs and their helmets,I know that these helmets are used in Castle sets, but hey, they have pretty much the same in the movie.Only I don't like the fact they come with regullar armor piece, they shuld have some printings like Moria orcs, but maybe they have it under armor piece :) and yes, pretty dissapointed with eagle (Gwalhir) claws,ne needs to have open claws to pick up minifigures, but this is just preview of the box, maybe it will not be like this :) And Gandalf in this scene had only Glamdring, not staff, because Witch King break his staff in extended edition, and it will be cool to get Frodo's Tshirt Mithril piece, because Mouth of Sauron gave it to Gandalf
