Mafia School: Police Infiltration - Conclusion

There had been a bit of a commotion in the cells.

8131296524_4a5c161da0_c.jpg

After the premature squishing of Jared, Randy and Poppy had wandered off, forgetting to lock the cells.

The remaining Stationers had begun to argue between themselves, and a couple had run off into the station.

Phil, however, happy in the knowledge he had helped convict the last scum, also made his way out of the cells, in search of some coffee. And possibly some cake.

8131268431_848f223652_c.jpg

"What the deuce!?" Phil exclaims on rounding the corner to be confronted by the lightsaber killer.

"Hello Phil" replies the dark figure "I've been waiting for you"

8131292660_484d81fc95_c.jpg

And in a flash the figure moves behind Phil, swinging its lightsaber...

8131264501_a6b0ba38b9_c.jpg

...a swift swoosh of which separates a confused and disgruntled Phil (Town) from his mortal coil.

8131288608_bba5ae88f2_c.jpg

"Checkmate" says the dark figure simply, as it strides off into the night.

8131422197_c4e179b8f0_c.jpg

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the station another dark figure is looking for somewhere to hide, or somewhere to escape...

8131420633_f6cbf5bd85_c.jpg

...but our lightsaber wielding dark figure is now searching very hard for them...

8131445432_7eeb5bfef4_z.jpg

One dark figure follows another onto the roof (after all, what is a good detective thriller without a rooftop showdown at the end?), the latter screaming slightly...

8131416519_78a4c0cf7a_z.jpg

...and the predatory dark figure pulls out its lightsaber, advancing on its prey...

8131414171_15ac4e852a_z.jpg

...who turns out to be a very scared Isaac.

"No, please, no!" Isaac retreats from the swishing lightsaber blade

8131411701_2695a21356_z.jpg

But Samantha keeps advancing, keeps swishing.

8131435732_57e169e459_z.jpg

Until, in his eagerness to get away, Isaac stumbles backwards onto the large glass skylights, which do not, unfortunately, support even his light frame.

8131432836_d6e8fa8641_z.jpg

The glass cracks and Isaac falls down, down, down.

Eventually a sickening 'thud' is heard.

Isaac (Town) is mush, and very much dead.

8131403733_86f924b81a_z.jpg

"Whooooooo hoooooo!" screams Samantha, swinging her lightsaber around "Whoa yeah baby! I got them aaaaaaaall! Whoop! Whoop!"

"Turn around slowly" says Poppy quietly, clicking the safety catch of her gun

8131401407_f4c84c04d8_z.jpg

"It.. it's you!" stutters Samantha "You're..."

"Yes" says Randy, as he and Poppy lower their guns "we are."

"We have been all along" says Poppy

8131425422_ae52fbbf3c_z.jpg

Samantha drops to her knees "Did I do ok?" she asks "Did I do it right?"

"Yes" replies Randy with a wink "you did just fine"

8131423126_d9860bd1c9_z.jpg

"The station's yours now" calls Poppy, as she and Randy walk off "do with it... as you see fit"

"Wow, yays, thank you!" cheers Samantha (Mafia) as she whoops some more.

8131434833_d4d36e16a1_z.jpg

As dawn breaks, all four members of the Kirksville Mafia, through some act of resurrection devilry (or bad continuity) wave goodbye cheerily, as Randy and Poppy depart for pastures new.

The Mafia will run the Police Station now, under the leadership of Godfather Samantha, now known as Chief Inspector Samantha.

~~~~~
"Can we stop for ice cream?" asks Randy as Poppy begins to pull off
"Sure thing, honey" replies Poppy as she floors the accelerator
Congratulations to the Mafia!
Winners!
Zachary (zakura), Phyllis (Superficial Username), Samantha (DarthPotato) - sole survivor, and Amelia (TheBoyWonder).
Player appraisal, game notes, lists of night actions and so forth will follow and we'll index them here in the first post.
Anyone may post in this topic, and players please feel free to post your role PMs from us.
We'd like to say a massive thank you to all the players for making this a really fun game for us to host.
We've had an absolute blast, and we hope you have too.
Lesson Eight: (Over-)Reliance on Night Action Results
Results from Night Actions cannot always be taken at face value. For example, if a Cop investigates a player and learns they are affiliated with the Town, there is a chance that their target is actually the Mafia Godfather. Conversely, a Mafia reading can also mean the Cop's target is a Miller. Also, a Cop is not always sane. Cops can be insane (which means they always get opposite results), naive (which means they always get Town results), or paranoid (which mean they always get Mafia results). Furthermore, in Advanced Games, the Mafia can have a Framer, which makes their target appear to be affiliated with the Mafia, or a Tailor, which makes one of the Mafia members appear Town in investigations. Results from Night Actions can help in finding the Mafia, but should never take the place of analysis of voting patterns and players' behaviour.
Day Notes
Day One
People need to read their Role PMs, the Rules, and the Lessons more carefully.
Everyone is accusing everyone. In fact there are so many accusations flying around it’s hard to keep track. Almost everyone is accused at some point, including the scum. PsyKater is accusing DarthPotato, the Godfather, and everyone else really. The aggressiveness of his accusations might make people turn on him eventually. Next to the Doctor (PsyKater), the Cop (konze) is attracting attention to himself by posting pictures of a skull cake and coffee, which is fun but an investigator should try not to attract too much attention.
Risky move by TheBoyWonder to vote first. So far, he’s not attracting too much attention for doing so. Endgame’s pointing the Finger of Suspicion ( :hmpf:) at Superficial Username, who’s scum. TazManiac votes for Endgame rather randomly. Endgame votes for him in return and everyone’s throwing votes around wildly and unvoting again. Typically… all of them are Town. Endgame’s jumpy reaction to TazManiac’s accusation is considered scummy. The ongoing argument between the Townies is a perfect distraction for the scum, who merely have to sit back and do nothing. There’s only been a small amount of strategising by the scum team, based on the beginning of the day. They need to talk more, but maybe they will.
PsyKater is, rightfully, calling out two scum for flying under the radar (they really need to contribute more), and voting for one of them. But then again, PsyKater is also calling out the Cop. TheBoyWonder really should have responded to the case against Jean and zakura is just not contributing at all and trying ( :facepalm: he just can’t get his vote right) to jump on a bandwagon. One of the scum is (rightly) picked out for ‘flying under the radar’, but in the morass of accusations, it doesn’t pick up speed. Accusations are a good thing, in fact a great thing on Day One, but too many and the water becomes muddied and focus can be lost.
Night One
The scum see PsyKater as their biggest threat, but decide against killing him because of his accusations against TheBoyWonder and zakura. Instead, they kill Adam, a rational player and zakura blocks PsyKater, who is very outspoken for a protector. JaseTJ, the Vigilante, shoots PsyKater, the most pro-town player and, even worse, the Doctor. Ironically, he protects him in return. Masked Builder decides to block Adam, not the most obvious choice for the town roleblocker. JaseTJ makes konze waste an investigation on PsyKater. Imagine what could have happened if the Cop found the Doctor on the first night. All in all, a pretty tragic night for the Town. They lose their Doctor and two of their most rational players. All this after voting out an active Townie during the day, too.
Day Two
TrumpetKing67 makes a silly mistake by calling the dead ‘scum’ instead of ‘town’ and becomes the number one lynch target for the day after his first post. People aren’t really analysing the deaths or looking back at Day One, although they don’t have all that much to go on with a Townie lynched. Instead, they are looking at the silent ones and, when voting opens, are quickly voting without providing much more reasoning than that people are quiet or voting without much reasoning. :wacko:
Superficial Username and DarthPotato are casting doubt on zakura, a fellow scum, but when they vote for him they allow, perhaps a bit too explicitly, for the possibility of unvoting him again when he says something in his defence. zakura doesn’t do his team a favour by not saying much in his defence, thus giving his fellow scum very little reason to unvote him. This makes their unvotes of zakura look scummy. I wonder if people will look back at these posts when zakura is revealed to be scum. More votes are being retracted from zakura, again without providing much reasoning, allowing the scum to blend in a little more, and votes against TrumpetKing67 start piling up again.
Turning point of the day: Superficial Username’s vote, if correctly formated, would have lynched TrumpetKing67. Scorpiox points out how scummy zakura’s vote is and his analysis of the situation basically prevents the scum from rectifying the situation, because any vote for TrumpetKing67 after Scorpiox’s post would look incredibly scummy. From then on, all votes are for zakura, and together with the two penalty votes he incurred for not following the rules, he finds himself lynched.
Night Two
JaseTJ makes up for his mistake on Night One by killing TheBoyWonder. Masked Builder chooses a scum to block and blocks the Godfather, but this has no effect because he is not the one performing the Mafia kill that night. konze is unlucky and investigates the Godfather, who reads Town to him. I wonder if he’ll contact him to work together, which would put the scum in a very convenient position. Superficial Username suggests JaseTJ may be the Vigilante (after he sent several people, including TheBoyWonder, a request for protection on Night One). They are right and Superficial Username is sent to kill the Vigilante on Night Two. After two nights, the Town have lost their Doctor and their Vigilante and the scum are left without their Roleblocker.
Day Three
Day Three starts where Day Two left off: really slow. :hmpf: With two members of the Mafia down, the previous two days should give them loads to talk about and work with.
The scum incorrectly assume JaseTJ wasn’t the Vigilante after all because he still killed that night. Usually kills happen at the end of the order if actions, and a kill made by a killer who dies themself usually goes through, which is what happened: JaseTJ killed TheBoyWonder and was then killed by Superficial Username. We even subtly hinted at it by changing the order of the deaths compared to Night One. We didn’t want to confirm JaseTJ was the vigilante by showing him kill TheBoyWonder.
Eurobricks goes down and an almost complete Day Three, which probably would have ended without a lynch, is lost. Luckily, Day Two ended right before the downtime, so we can resume with Day Three immediately. The new Day Three is even slower than the old Day Three. People keep saying they should vote and accuse, but the only thing that happens is that TazManiac and Stormblessed indicate that TrumpetKing67 and konze are most likely Town because they were voted for by two confirmed scum and voted for a scum on Day One, respectively. Town is going to lose this game if they don’t start talking and analysing. Scorpiox hasn’t even bothered to post and will incur penalty votes on Day Four.
Night Three
It’s Night Three and the only actions left are the Cop and the Mafia’s Kill. The Mafia kill TazManiac and konze investigates TrumpetKing67 and finds out he’s Town.
Day Four
The start of Day Four is really slow again. People are just asking others to ‘speak up’. In the final 24 hours of the day, Stormblessed presents an analysis of the votes of the previous days to show that it’s unlikely konze is scum, mainly based on Day Two voting patterns. Day Two voting and especially unvoting incriminate the remaining two members of the scum (DarthPotato and Superficial Username) and badboytje88. They all unvoted zakura at the time he started to get himself lynched by violating the roleplaying rule. Stormblessed eventually votes for badboytje88. He doesn’t present a particularly strong case as it’s mainly based on TazManiac’s suspicions. badboytje88 responds by concluding that Stormblessed and TrumpetKing67 are most likely the remaining scum. If the Town follow up on these suspicions, they’ll probably lose. Right now, their only hope is looking back on the Day Two votes again. The Cop, konze, has investigated DarthPotato as Town and will have no reason to investigate Superficial Username, who has - surprisingly after his failed attempt to hammer the vote against TrumpetKing67 on Day Two - avoided suspicion. It really is time for the Town to read back the prior days in detail. It’s not even that much to go through. Everyone, except Ferrik, hops on the last-minute bandwagon and Superficial Username once again fails to properly hammer the lynch. Scorpiox does the dirty work for him with ten minutes left in the day.
Night Four
The Mafia still think that TrumpetKing67 is the Vigilante and decided not to kill on Night Three (even though the reason for killing JaseTJ on Night Two was... that they thought he was the Vigilante). They’re killing Stormblessed tonight as they feel he was on the right track with his analysis. konze investigates Scorpiox, a Townie.
Day Five
The remaining players are finally starting to analyse voting patterns. TrumpetKing67 concludes that DarthPotato and Superficial Username were the ones that pulled their votes off of zakura, but then quickly jumps to suspect konze again. konze apparently contacts the players he investigated and ‘cleared’. Unfortunately for the Town that includes DarthPotato, the Godfather. This way, DarthPotato knows that of the players left only Superficial Username and Ferrik are unconfirmed. He now has the choice between trying to get the others to lynch Ferrik and win by killing another Townie the following night or sacrifice Superficial Username and let it go to Day Six. He quickly decides, essentially without discussing it with his teammate, to let Superficial Username get lynched. After TrumpetKing67 opens the vote, DarthPotato quickly adds his vote as well. With Superficial Username lynched, this means he has to succesfully kill konze tonight, or konze would be able to confirm Ferrik. The only way DarthPotato can lose is if the remaining Townies look critically at the voting patterns (especially the Day Two vote) and conclude that he’s the Godfather. The Mafia don’t know the Vigilante killed the Doctor on Night One, so it’s surprising to see that DarthPotato doesn’t seem to consider the possibility the Cop will get protected on Night Five after he outed himself. In deciding on their kills, the Mafia have never considered the possibility of their target being protected.
It could become an interesting Day Six as the remaining Townies should notice that the Cop was killed after he outed himself to a group of ‘confirmed Townies’. Will they lynch the only unconfirmed player left or will they conclude it’s one of the investigated players who killed the Cop? konze probably shouldn’t have let everyone know exactly who he investigated as the Godfather can now base his strategy on the investigation results. It is surprising that neither he, nor any of his contacts, consider the possibility of a Godfather.
Night Five
The Night Actions are no surprise as DarthPotato has to kill konze to prevent him from confirming Ferrik.
Day Six
The remaining Townies are blindly relying on konze’s investigation results and lynch Ferrik as soon as voting opens. There is no discussion about it, and it seems nobody is even willing to listen to what he has to say. They are all so sure, but unfortunately that will make it a bigger disappointment to them in the conclusion.
Night Six
It goes to Night Six, but all DarthPotato has to do is send in his kill, which he does. He picks Scorpiox and spares him from a rooftop showdown.
Player Appraisal
Note that we only gave a Pass/Fail to those playing their first Mafia School game here on Eurobricks.
7576589808_7fd9db48ca_m.jpg
Adam (badboytje88), Town, Vanilla Townie
Where did the 'pee in a cup' come from on Day One? *huh* You're a motorcycle cop, they don't ask people to pee in cups! :laugh: Your voting behaviour on Day Two was very scummy. Just like two members of the Mafia, you vote for zakura, only to unvote him when he's getting himself lynched by not following the role playing rule. On Day Four, Stormblessed finally presents an analysis of the voting behaviour of the previous days. Surprisingly, he doesn't vote for you because of your scummy Day Two voting behaviour, but for voting for a Townie on Days One and Two, which was hardly conclusive, and for being unhelpful. You probably should have stayed calm and explained where his reasoning was off instead of going berserk and calling him scum.
We were really glad you signed up for our game, so we had a nice mix of new and relatively experienced players. Even though you were active enough on most days, we really did expect a bit more contribution and analysis from you, given the number of games you've played.
7576586764_448869265b_m.jpg
Amelia (TheBoyWonder), Mafia, Goon
You only lasted two days before you were killed by the Vigilante. Looking at your posts on those two days I can imagine why the Vigilante targeted you. There wasn't a lot of substance to your votes. On Day One, you voted for TrumpetKing67, unvoted him after "thinking some things through", and voted for zakura, a fellow Mafia member. This was a bold move and one that could have benefited you as the game progressed. On Day Two, you start a vote against TrumpetKing67 again. A scummy vote, as you call him out on what seems an honest mistake.
You signed up because you felt you could brush up on your mafia skills. Despite voting for one of your own, your behaviour on Days One and Two apparently gave you away as scummy and perhaps you should add some more thoughts when you're placing a vote.
7576584048_334d7f8601_m.jpg
Andrea (PsyKater), Town, Doctor
You were the Night One night action magnet. You were investigated, roleblocked, and killed by the Vigilante, all on Night One! *huh* And on top of that, you died protecting your killer. :cry_sad: We were really sad to see you go so early in the game as you really took on your role and took role playing seriously. You even edited the quotes to show the characters' names (in addition to the players' usernames). But more importantly, you were one of a few players actually playing the game on Day One. You analysed posts and called out players for suspicious behaviour. Your lists of suspects included three members of the Mafia and you even voted for TheBoyWonder (and unvoted him again).
You enthusiastically signed up for our game and we were really sad when we got the PM with your name in it from the Vigilante. As he was the last to send in his Night Action, we kept hoping the Town Roleblocker would block the Vigilante. You have to be careful that you don't lose focus by accusing almost everyone and, when you have an important Night Action, it's probably not such a good idea to attract so much attention in the Day threads. On the other hand, it did cause the Cop to investigate you. Imagine what a powerful Town block you could have formed if you had lived past Night One. We were impressed by your performance on Day One and we're happy to give you a Pass. We look forward to playing with you in Advanced Games. :sweet:
7576581314_219bf2b437_m.jpg
Christine (konze), Town, Cop
We liked you posting pictures of cake and coffee on Day One so much that your cake was featured a couple of times in the pictures on later days. You were repeatedly called out for flying under the radar though. Attracting attention to yourself this way when you're the Cop probably isn't a good idea, but neither is being so quiet that you appear suspicious; it's all about balance. When you became one of the lynch candidates on Day Four, you didn't defend yourself really well. Your vote for zakura, a member of the Mafia, helped the other Townies clear you though. On Day Five, you finally shared your results with the players you investigated, but you, nor any other Townie, seemed to consider that there could be a Godfather in the game. Your revelation did not only lead to your own death, but also gave DarthPotato a way to plan his victory.
We don't know what you did exactly behind the scenes, but you should definitely contribute more to the Day threads to avoid suspicion, especially if you're the Cop. Nevertheless, you chose your investigation targets wisely and you Pass.
7576572656_014a42412f_m.jpg
Gary (Adam), Town, Vanilla Townie
Gary, together with Little Gary, was one of our favourite characters and you played him really well. You were active and analysed other peoples' posts and votes. Unfortunately, the Mafia also picked up on this and chose you as their kill on Night One.
We were glad you selected our game to get back into mafia and we were sad to see you, and Gary, die so early. :cry_sad: We hope you'll be playing Advanced Games again soon. On Day One, you certainly showed you still got it. :wink:
7576569560_151568b94c_m.jpg
Henrietta (Masked Builder), Town, Roleblocker
Despite playing in several Advanced Games already, you signed up for our game because you felt you could use a refresher. Unfortunately, your lack of engagement with the game seemed to be history repeating itself. You didn't add any original thoughts and simply hopped on the bandwagon on Days One and Two. You tend to do this in Advanced Games as well and perhaps you should reconsider if Mafia really is a game for you, as you seem to have difficulty contributing. We do not intend to be harsh here, and we don't want you to be offended by this, but we feel it is fair to raise this issue.
Disappointingly, you dropped out of the game on Day Three. Not only did you prevent another player from playing our game this way, you also disadvantaged the Town as they lost their Roleblocker in you.
7576566628_e0bce89aa0_m.jpg
Ian (TazManiac), Town, Vanilla Townie
You were personally responsible for the Day One lynch. :tongue: Whereas we were wondering what the hell you were doing voting (well, the vote didn't even count as it wasn't properly formatted) for Endgame for no reason whatsoever, his jumpy reaction made him look scummy and eventually got him lynched. You were right with your analysis and vote for TheBoyWonder towards the end of the Day though. Your behaviour was a little erratic sometimes, but you played actively and were clearly analysing behaviour, and eventually got killed by the Mafia.
We were happy see one of the few Fellows who isn't playing mafia yet sign up for our game and we hope you enjoyed it enough to continue your mafia career on EB. Pass!
7576563714_33113e366e_m.jpg
Isaac (TrumpetKing67), Town, Vanilla Townie
You were certainly discussed a lot during the game and you seemed scummy to a lot of players. These suspicions were probably the reason the Mafia didn't kill you and made you the last remaining Townie. :cry_sad: You weren't always suspected for the right reasons though. However, make sure you don't have to blame auto-correct. Lesson: Don't post in mafia games from your phone or you run the risk of getting lunched. :tongue: Your analysis on Day Five - clearing Ferrik because he helped lynch zakura on Day Two and pointing out that DartPotato and Superficial Username withdrew their votes as konze was getting himself lynched - was absolutely spot on, but unfortunately you didn't act on it.
You took the game seriously and you posted a lot on most days. Also, you were the one who finally analysed the crucial information in the Day Two. Too bad you didn't follow up on it on Day Six. Still, you have definitely earned your Pass. Good luck playing in the Advanced Games!
7576559074_a95c58963b_m.jpg
Jared (Ferrik), Town, Vanilla Townie
You were one of the two players not confirmed by the Cop. You probably should have realised on Day Five that you'd be voted out on Day Six and that should have gotten you thinking about what was going on. You only defended yourself though, rather than offering alternative possibilities, and left it up to the other players to figure out who the remaining Mafioso was. Unfortunately, they were convinced it was you. Had you looked at the voting patterns and pointed out where the others were wrong, or followed up on TrumpetKing67's analysis, you may have been able to turn the game around, however that would have been tough against people determined to vote you out.
We hoped to see a little more input and analysis from you during the Days, but we also hope you enjoyed your first mafia game. You Pass.
7576556302_4d6da72c05_m.jpg
Jean (Endgame), Town, Vanilla Townie
Someone has to be the first to get lynched and, unfortunately, it was you. You responded to an unfounded accusation by TazManiac by voting for him. This jumpy reaction was considered scummy by the rest of the players and, no matter how hard you tried to change their mind, you got lynched for it. The lesson to be learnt here is that you have to stay calm when you get accused and certainly don't assume the other player knows you're Town. It's very hard to defend yourself on Day One though, because you have no posts or voting behaviour to refer back to, and we don't think you could have avoided the lynch.
We were sad to see Jean (and you :tongue: ) go so quickly, but based on the way you played on Day One you get a Pass.
7576553410_357ae4112b_m.jpg
Kendra (Stormblessed), Town, Vanilla Townie
You weren't very active for a large part of the game and that made you suspicious to a lot of players. However, it also caused to Cop to investigate and clear you. On Day Four you led the lynch against badboytje88. Even though his vote on Day Two was scummy, you accuse him for voting for a Townie twice, which wasn't very conclusive evidence. Nevertheless, the remaining members of the Mafia were afraid you would uncover them and decided to kill you on Night Four, and you should take that as a compliment.
Even though you could have been more active on the earlier Days, we're convinced you got the hang of the game and are happy to give you a Pass.
7576550676_7550ec26cc_m.jpg
Mark (JaseTJ), Town, Vigilante
'Nooooooo!' :facepalm: was our reaction when you sent in your action for Night One. How could you kill one of the most pro-town players on Day One? Also, sending out a request for protection to a group of random players on Night One probably isn't a good idea as there is good chance you're contacting a member of the Mafia and they'll just assume you have a Night Action and kill you. That's exactly what the scum did on Night Two. For some reason they even had you pegged as the Vigilante. Nevertheless, you also got your revenge on Night Two and killed a member of the Mafia.
You contributed to the Day threads and except for two rather big mistakes, which hopefully you learned from, we think you played well and chose your second target wisely.
7576547844_0e1ee9e88b_m.jpg
Phil (Scorpiox), Town, Vanilla Townie
After PsyKater and Adam got killed on Night One, we figured you'd be next, as you were one of the more analytical players on Days One and Two. However, when we had to restart Day Three, you forgot post all day, which earned you penalty votes on Day Four. On Day Four you waited until the final minutes of the Day to cast the final vote for badboytje88. You're convinced he's scum, but your reasoning is mainly based on the tone of his reaction to Stormblessed's accusations. We were hoping you'd be the one to look back at the voting records and figure it out on Day Six, but instead you relied fully on the Cop's investigation results and, like the other remaining Townies, seemed to refute any other options.
We were happy to have you in our game and, except for Day Three, you were very active and did a good job at both role playing and analysing behaviour.
7576544820_e6ba7b0743_m.jpg
Phyllis (Superficial Username), Mafia, Goon
We were somewhat surprised to see you successfully fly under the radar for so long. After your failure to hammer the vote and get TrumpetKing67 lynched on Day Two (and making the same mistake in the vote against badboytje88 on Day Four :facepalm:), we were expecting you to attract some more attention, either in the Day threads or from the Cop. You were one of two players not investigated by Day Five and DarthPotato decided to bus you. The alternative would be to try and get Ferrik lynched on Day Five. It was a risky move, but you accepted your fate, and in the end it worked out well for your team.
We would have liked to see a bit more participation from you, but then again, you were a member of the Mafia and avoided suspicion for long enough, which can be seen as an accomplishment. You had no problems sacrificing yourself for the team, which is important when playing mafia.
Samantha (DarthPotato), Mafia, Godfather
Sole survivor in your first game! :sweet: Obviously you were helped a lot by the fact that you got the Godfather role, but, aside from the scummy Day Two vote/unvote for zakura, you didn't make any major mistakes. You were active enough in the Day threads to avoid any serious suspicion and, with hindsight, you made the right choice by busing Superficial Username on Day Five. You weren't really forced to strategise, but we nevertheless would have liked to see the scum team strategise a bit more. Whenever decisions had to be made, you were the one making them. One thing that stood out to us was that, when selecting your target, you never seemed to consider the possibility that they'd be protected. Killing konze on Night Five was necessary, because he'd investigate Ferrik that Night and have everyone confirmed as a Townie, and the Town would have probably have realised that there was a Godfather hiding among them. Given that you didn't know the Doctor was dead since Night One, killing konze was a riskier move than you perhaps realised. If he wasn't dead, he surely would have protected konze, because he was basically outed as the Cop on Day Five, and you would have had a much harder time proving yourself as a Townie on Day Six.
You played really well and you had a clear strategy once the Cop came forward to you. Congratulations on your well-earned victory and your Pass!
Zachary (zakura), Mafia, Roleblocker
You attracted a lot of attention in the Day threads by not contributing a lot and making unsubstantiated votes. We never expected someone to get lynched for violation of the role playing rule and we merely included it to illustrate the importance of reading the rules. More importantly, you could have gotten your team members in a lot of trouble as they had to pull their votes from you when you were essentially getting yourself lynched. As the most experienced member of the Mafia we expected you to take the lead, but instead you largely decided who to roleblock on your own and didn't coordinate with your team a lot.
You probably don't need us to tell you what went wrong and what you could improve, but we hope you enjoyed the game nonetheless.
Woohoo! :grin: I can't believe I survived through it all! Pandora, Rick, thank you so much for hosting such a great game! The story, the presentation, it was all great! It was awesome of you guys to help teach us new people. I can't wait to play in some of the big games now! :thumbup:
Really well hosted, Rick and Pandora! Very interesting to follow. The last days were really short though, which was kind of disappointing. :sceptic:
Good job to the scum. For some reason I would never have thought that Phyllis was scum...I don't know why. :look:
Well, now I feel really bad for lynching Jared..... I have a question. Since Scorpiox was killed first, does tbat mean in retrospect I came in second, since the other mafia died beforehand?
Why couldn't we have learned Lesson 8 earlier!! That was our big downfall yesterday.
And a congratulations to DarthPotato (I only really suspected you once, then shrugged it off) and the rest of the mafia.
Ignore the below about the role stuff, I will post it later. My iPad isn't letting me erase the very bottom section. It really isn't important, though. I'm a vanilla townie.
Finally, a big thank you to Pandora and Rick for hosting this game! I had an amazing time playing, and hopefully I can pass, because I want to play darkdragon's game!! I am so happy that I chose to participate in this, and I can't thank you two enough for giving me the chance to play.
I'll quote it properly later but here is my totally non-important role information:
:cry_sad: :cry_sad: :cry_sad:
That sums up quite accuarately how I'm feeling right now. I was so sure that we'd won this one, but I guess that I was letting far too much hinge on Konze's night actions to see what was happening underneath my nose. Praise to DarthPotato, I never saw that coming. :thumbup:
Thanks so much for hosting this, Pandora and Rick, it was great fun to play and I think that I've brushed up on my Mafia skills a good amount for later. A question about the plot, however, if we good guys had claimed our victory, would Poppy and Randy still turned out to be corrupt? I'm just curious to know if that was set in stone, and if we could have won on day two just by follow the example of Scouty to lynch the NPCs. :laugh:
Lesson Eight: (Over-)Reliance on Night Action Results
Results from Night Actions cannot always be taken at face value. For example, if a Cop investigates a player and learns they are affiliated with the Town, there is a chance that their target is actually the Mafia Godfather. Conversely, a Mafia reading can also mean the Cop's target is a Miller. Also, a Cop is not always sane. Cops can be insane (which means they always get opposite results), naive (which means they always get Town results), or paranoid (which mean they always get Mafia results). Furthermore, in Advanced Games, the Mafia can have a Framer, which makes their target appear to be affiliated with the Mafia, or a Tailor, which makes one of the Mafia members appear Town in investigations. Results from Night Actions can help in finding the Mafia, but should never take the place of analysis of voting patterns and players' behaviour.
This rule is the biggest thing that players need to learn here, both in mafia school and in the big boy games. Being vanilla doesn't mean you simply jump on bandwagons. Lots can done simply by interacting. The two biggest things that can be done are:
1) Snooping out suspicious behavior to catch scum, and
2) Being so clearly town that the town doesn't waste night actions on you.
I've found your lessons very clear and helpful. Hopefully the players take note.
Well, now I feel really bad for lynching Jared..... I have a question. Since Scorpiox was killed first, does tbat mean in retrospect I came in second, since the other mafia died beforehand?
There is no second in mafia. Just winners and losers. Now, I didn't follow the game day by day, so this is no comment on your playing, but the townies mafia let live till the end are generally the ones who pose zero threat to them, be it through lack of game experience, apathy to the game, or simply bad scum-sniffing skills which ends up helping the scum. So, generally, you never want to be 'second' like that in mafia :classic:
I was a little surprised no one mentioned the Godfather when konze revealed his results, but I guess that worked to my advantage in the end.
And was JaseTJ the Vig? We killed him on Night 2 because we thought he was, and I'm starting to think that we were right.
Wow. Worst expectation became true. I was wondering why Christine/konze was so important and helpful at the end. I did not realize that she had been the Role Cop Inspector.
I have to admit, you played a great game DarthPotato! The accusations against you on Day 1 ( :wink:) were not strong and the other days you did not do anything that was suspicious (as there were others contributing even less than you). The only thing that made me suspicious of you at the end, was that you did not go into my accusations on Day 1. This seemed in retroperspective like you hoped noone would chase you for that.
Thanks Pandora and Rick for this great game. It was great hoe precise your posts came (same time). Your lessons were great and very well explained. Finally the whole plot abd the scenery were so good and it was so much fun playong this game.
More later on, when not trying to type on iPhone.
I was actually suspicious of Jerrad, Phyllis, and Samantha before I died. I hope I passed, but nO matter what, I feel I played well(ish). At least well enough to be targeted by the scum on night four.
To be vanilla and to live is not influence the day without being too outspoken. On day three, I led the conversation and loved, on day four, I led the conversation and died. On day four I was most outspoken. Maybe I am wrong in my asseement.
I'm sorry to Adam that I got you lynched. You were most suspicious at the time and my conclusion was that all the scum voted for Isaac on day two, which they did.
Fun Fact: If Phyllis (Superficial) would have formatted her vote against Isaac (TrumpetKing) on Day 2 correct, Isaac would have been lynched on that Day - not Zachary (Zakura). This shows, how important it is to get formatting right.
(At that time Adam (badboy) had switched his vote from Zachary to Isaac who had 4 votes then (Zachary 2). After this three Mafiosi tried to vote for Isaac as well. With 7 votes required on Day 2, this would have been enough. So what happened? (# = post-id)
#55 Zachary votes for Isaac (Isaac 5, Zachary 2)
#55 Zachary forgets to role play (cold) - penalty (Isaac 5, Zachary 3)
#56 Vote Tally
#57 Phyllis votes for Isaac (Isaac 6, Zachary 3) wrong format!
#59 Samantha votes for Isaac (Isaac 7 6, Zachary 3)
After this, some members of the town chose to vote for Zachary instead of Isaac (why so ever) and he got lynched.
Here is my role pm. I first thought I had been not careful enough being an important role and then so loud on Day 1. I was sure that I was being killed by the Scum on Night 1. When I heard that I got killed by the Vig, I could not believe how bad luck this was. Especially as the Town Vig was the only person, I really trusted after Day 1.
PsyKater,
Welcome to Police Infiltration: A Mafia School Game. Information about your character and role can be found below. Please use only this PM to communicate with us about the game. No other form of communication will be acknowledged. To start off, set your avatar to the picture below (or put it in your signature), put your character’s name in your signature (don’t reveal your affiliation or role!), and confirm your participation in this thread.
Good luck and have fun!
Pandora and Rick
Your Character
7576585048_50fe7ee126_t.jpg
Andrea, Secretary to the Chief of Police
Andrea used to be a member of the Police SWAT team, but is currently the Secretary to the Chief of Police. Several years ago, members of a Mafia gang on the run lead her unit into a forest. When it came to a gunfight between the gang and her unit, she stood paralyzed, afraid to fire her gun. After countless sessions with the Police Psychiatrist, it was decided a desk job suited her better.
Your Role
You are a member of the Town and are the Doctor. You can target one player each night and protect them from being killed. You cannot target yourself. Your result will be ‘Successful’ when you succeed at protecting your target. Note that this does not necessarily mean they were targeted for a night kill. Your result will be ‘Unsuccessful’ when you fail at protecting your target.
Your Win Condition
You win when the Mafia is eliminated.
Yes, excellent lessons, Rick!
You were killed by the vig? That sucks! I thought you were the towniest of the town apart from Tazmaniac. :sad:
Woot, another win to add to my tally. JaseTJ, why did you send the PM asking for protection out? That's basically screaming "I'm a PR".
Alright, don't think that I trust you, or expect you to trust me. I honestly picked three people at random because we need to start talking. I'm expecting at least one of you to be mafia, but I won't assume anything either way for now.The closest thing I have to a lead is that Andrea seems scummy... she's acting a little too innocent, and freaking out over every little detail. (Not that she's the only one doign the latter.) I don't want to lynch her and have her turn up innocent, but... we will have to start somewhere, unfortunately. It's more than likely that we'll end up lynching at least one good cop before this is all over.Also, if one of you happens to be the doctor... I have a feeling that I might be their target tonight. I seem to be the only one getting anything done (no offense), and that makes me a little nervous. If you are the doctor, don't say anything though, in case one of the other two is scum. At least don't say anything in this thread. If you want to PM just me, go ahead, but again, I don't expect you to trust me.(I'll be adding two others to this, assuming I can, since I can't figure out how to send it to multiple people...)
Sorry, but that was a foolish move JaseTJ. A PR is meant to hide, not make it obvious. Sending out a PM for protection is quite obvious your a PR.
