Model of small sportcar on universal chassis with RWD/AWD. Goal was to make universal lightweight car with most powerful performance for home fun.

Remote controlled

Propulsion - RC buggy motor

Steering- M motor with rubber auto centering

Powered by rechargeable Lego LiPo battery for weight saving

Uses V2 IR receiver for better buggy motor performance

For information:

Full weight with driver - 519 g. (Track tires)

Electrics - 192 g.

Car without electrics and driver (chassis) - 316 g.

Car without electrics driver and wheels - 254 g.

Driver - 14 g.

There is no suspension - there is no need in it here:)

Motor is situated at the back, and uses fast output directly to rear differential (20:28). Front wheels powered directly from rear differential. There is no diff between axles. Car shows better dynamic performance with RWD, but using V2 receiver makes difference between RWD and AWD very small.

Using v2 receiver makes buggy motor more effective:

1. Motor accelerates car better even with awd in comparision with old receiver, that looks slower, especially with AWD.

2. V2 drives model through obstacels much better that v1 and also uphill.

3.new receiver makes possible to drift with more softer and wider tires. Old can drift only with old modelteam tires that hard in comparision with new 14x43, 20x43, 20x56 tires.

Model uses different tires from 43 to 56 size. Model is very fast for its scale. Low weight makes possible to play safely indoor.

Car is with steering at right side, as JDM (japan, thanks for drift) cars: light and powerful.

Yes, but if I "shoehorn" all electrics there, i have to name it Jennifer Lopez it will not drift because of heavy back....my configuration is weight balanced but not freespace effective

The V2 receiver sure brings life to RC motors! Did you think about using the servo motor for steering, to save on power?

Yes V2 rules! I am really glad that I've bought 3 new buggy mototrs from Lego direct at december 2011. Now they are discontinued:(

May be one of my next small scalled cars (RWD only and FWD only cars) will include servo. Cant tell that blocked M motor eats much power.

Look my new video till the end. You can see that buggy motor is really strong with new IR. While driving with V2 I have never meet overload protection :thumbup: i cant tell the same about old IR on this model...

Before recording last video I did technical inspection of car and found many wearing of axles at beam holes. I take Liqui Moly Silicon feet grease and lubricate all axles at holes and gears (including 12tooth at diffs). Effect is visible.

Cant wait to test it on flat ice!!! :cry_happy:

New receiver gives old and powerful motor the new life. Sad that this awesome motor is already discontinued:( hope TLG present us new fast and powerful motor.

I drove real cars on real lakes all the time when I was younger. Of course, the ice was 2 meters thick... This looks like just as much fun as I remember!

To say the truth, that was not drift but rally, because of ALL wheel drive. That was real fun. Waiting for more ice without water:)

I must be bumping a very old thread, but i dont know much about RC buggy motor.

Can i use servo motor, buggy motor, V2 IR receiver and remote control combo?

Looksl ike i could get an RC buggy motor for around 30eu, but will i need other buggy parts for mocs? I dont really want to spend 200eu on RC buggy set :(

@ shadowhearth: Yes, you can use that combination of parts. rm8 used the 8878 Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box (to save weight), but you could also use the 88000 AAA PF Battery Box instead. See this Eurobricks topic to see what the differences are between the two.

The PF v2 Receiver will allow the current-hungry Lego RC motor to operate. There really isn't much difference between using a PF Medium motor (with return-to-center steering) or a PF Servo Motor. You won't need to buy the entire Lego RC Buggy set; if you can just get the RC motor, that will do nicely! :classic: You will also need a 8886 PF Extension Wire; see this Eurobricks post for details.

i think servo is too slow for such fast car. I did not tested servo with mamba but i will do it
