woody64 Posted August 25, 2012 (edited) Here are some recently achieved results of customs done with 3d printing in a material called "Prime Grey". The optical result is with this material option very nearby a molded piece. For all items which make sense in grey color you get a finished product out of the 3d printer. It depends on the printer and material you use. 3D printers like the Objet Connex can print in all sorts of different materials, like rubbery flexible material or very tough rigid material you can use everyday. I would also be interested in seeing the quality of these in ABS plastics, like Lego uses. Can you also paint on them with this 3D machine, or would you need a separate printer? Also, I was always wondering why there wasn't a headpiece from the 17-18th Centuries that feature whigs protruding out of the bottoms? There has been hair of other types with the hats, I just thought it would be so cool to have a Tricorn hat with a white whig protruding out of the bottom...how cool would that be for those types of figs? Doing that Assassin's Creed British officer made me think of this. You don't happen to be working on that would you? (hint-hint) lol. woody64 Posted November 7, 2012 There's a wig available. But to mount a wig beyond a hat is not possible. A combination of any hat with that wig as one single piece would be not to difficult. So if there are buyers ... ABS plastic printed by a 3d printer is currently not available in the necessary granularity or within the acceptable price range. Color printing via 3d is possible but also has not the needed surface quality. The normal pad printing (coloring) should also be possible with these pieces. As far as hats/helmets I think the rescue niche would be fond of a detailed firemens helmet. Both American and Euro styles. Although you said you'd pass I'd figure I'd give some examples of what we're lacking besides helmets: Some thicker tools may be hyrdraulic cutters or spreaders (jaws of life) and the SCBA Air Packs we use which look nothing like what LEGO puts out. Smaller tools you may not even consider that the community has been dying for our the haligan bar (known as irons when married with an axe) and the pike pole And much more lol. Sadly brickarms and brickforge don't seem to have much interest in putting out a Fire Rescue pack or anything, but I think there is definitely money to be made there.
