Buy, Sell, Trade forum

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of the idea to change the way people make topics in this forum to clearify things.

So the topic title will start with either:

[sale]

[buy]

[Trade]

[Finds]

I'm not sure if this was sugested before and what the outcome was but I think it will make things a lot easier and faster.

I think it's a good idea, and will certainly make things easier, but this is up to the buyer/seller's choice. I highly doubt the admins would make a rule for this.

Actually it should be a forum rule. In the beginning it will require some mod work. A lot of forums have this rule and it works.

It would require A LOT of moderating work. We would be changing every single thread title that was added without it.

Also do we punish those who start a thread without it? I think not. That'd be way too harsh and unnecessary.

I'm not saying the answer is no, but it would be a significant change and the only group that would know the rule right off the bat is the staff. We still get complaints that people can't start topics in that forum and they wonder why. Even though the answer is in the pinned topic of that forum.

No one should be punished for posting without, thats beyond the purpose of this rule. But seeing that you can post there starting from the "rank" of citizen I assume these people are here to stay and will make the effort to adapt to the new rule.

I have done this on my own gaming forum and indeed in requires some work but in the end it works and the posts without can be counted on 1 hand.

What could be done is using Tags. This is a default option within IPBoard and will give you the option to select a pre-defined Tag in your post. It can be enabled per forum so it's no global settings.

I have tested it and it would look something like this :

post-10429-13426151997142.jpg

You can modify the code : ACP> Look / Feel> Skin Manager> (choose skin)> Manage Templates / CSS> Other Global Templates> TagTextEntryBox

Add this in front of the code:

<img src='{$this->settings['img_url']}/information.png' alt='Info' /><span class='desc lighter'> Important!</span><br><span class='desc lighter'>Click "add a tag" below : Select the appropriate Tag :<b> Buy, Sale, Trade, Finds</b> </span><br />

When you now make a new post the topic starter is notified of the needed selection, it will look like this:

As Big Cam wrote, we'll wait for our hackers a.k.a admins to call this one. But my guess is that we don't want to write new code, because when the software is updated that code will be gone and needs to be re-written. Over time all those modifications adds up and it will be hard to keep everything hunky dory.

No coding required for the Tags thats default IPboard. the line of code that I posted is the only code required if you want to inform the poster.

But we will wait for Admins.

I think things are pretty clear as is now. There's a (few)dedicated threads for finds, people more often than not put "FS", "FT", or "WTB" or what have you. Your suggestion would make the sub forum a little cleaner in look though.

BSTF, to me is something that be used to view 'buy', 'sell', 'trade' and 'find' topics of my interest based on the topic title and the topic descrption.

Both of such elements are very good indicative for 'one' to ascertain and establish the topic's rough agenda in your mind before clicking it to view the content.

To carry out such changes by allowing tagging in-place, will indeed make the BSTF looks neater, but to me I find it very unacceptable if such measures are to be enforce by running scripts. Pardon me, I am not shunning it from the programming aspect of the board software.

I am very much concerned of the latter.

The Eurobricks member who had such intention to create any of the above interested topics, ought to take their very own responsibility to ensure that these information are conveyed to the targeted audiences effectively. It is the own Eurobricks member who had created such topic to have the responsiblity to ensure that their topic titles are listed correctly with the most effective form of topic namings by beginning with 'WTB' (Willing-to-Buy), 'WTS' (Willing-to-sell), etc, which are commonly used in the Internet.

If we are to put this into practice, these topics starters will just be plain lazy and that is something I will discourage. Making it too convenient for people will result false perepction and I could hardly see if the person is truly sincere to sell or to buy. It tells a lot through such simple tell-tale signs.

I am not advocating this and the bottom line is, it is the responsiblity of the topic starter to be responsible and ensure that the right information is put across, if not, then that person should not be even creating such topics in the BSTF.

While we're making suggestions, I suggest that people who post something for sale, trade, or to buy, without posting their location should be shot. Or... something. Something bad. Whatever.

I have a question in order to make an offer on something do we have to a certain amount of posts?

You only need to make ten posts in order to post in BSTF, but you need a hundred posts if you want to start a topic there. You can read more about ranks and their privileges here.

A suggestion to make the BSTF a little easier to navigate is to split it up into some more sub forums: buyer, seller, trades and tips for sales for instance. There is already the bazaar for sellers, but it is sometimes a little hard to navigate the rest. i know it would probably be a huge project sorting all the exsistin threads and i don't know how manay people actually use the BSTF, but anyways its just a suggestion :classic:
