Hi All

I know this should be in the Buy, Sell, Trade forum but for some reason I'm not able to start a new topic in the forum. Any suggestions as to why this is would be gratefully received.

I'm thinking about selling my Technic parts collection to raise money to buy a couple of 9398's, one for me & one for Jake but don't know how much to ask or the best way to go about it.

I have all the parts from the bags marked 1 from the 8110 Uni Mog set. That's everything needed to build the whole Uni Mog chassis. Thing is I've not got just 1 lot of these 'lots' but 3, enough to build 3 whole Uni Mog chassis's. There are also hundreds of other parts including loads of connectors of various types, beams & plates.

There's also 4 wheels (inc. tyres) from the 8446 4x4 and the 4 wheels (inc. tyres) from the 8063 Tractor.

Also I have 2 XL Motors, 2 Medium Motors, 1 Pole Reverser, 2 PF Battery Boxes. Various pre PF motors, leads and a PF style battery box with pre PF 4 stud connector.

Finally there's a complete 8446 4x4 with instructions but no box.

I've no idea how much this lot's worth or whether it's better to sell in one lot or break it up into 3 (Uni Mog) lots and the other lots in 'groups'. Any help would be gratefully received.

I think you have to be a certain rank before posting in that forum...

For the greatest VISIBILITY, you can't beat eBay. It will get HUNDREDS of looks by Technic AFOLs worldwide. I would recommend splitting up your Technic-for-sale items so that potential buyers don't have to use hundreds of British Pounds from their cookie jar! :classic:

I'm in a quandary as what to do to get the best price without overpricing things. Your answer has given me something to think about.

Again, Thank You.

This stuff's freakin' priceless. At least, it would be to a serious MOCer. My advice is to hang on to the 8466 wheels, as those are expensive, and go great with 9398. As for the rest, go on Ebay and look up what you're trying to sell. That could give you some ideas.

Oh please oh please oh please give me the unimog parts and the motors! I can maybe make a deal directly.

@ grum64: If you put your stuff up for sale on eBay, be advised that there are Seller's Fees involved. If the buyer uses PayPal, then there are PayPal fees. If you could find a buyer within the UK, UK.gif you would possibly save on these fees (and the buyer would not have to pay large Shipping costs). Is there a website like Craigslist.com in the UK, where people buy/sell items? It acts like the "Classified Ads" in the local newspaper, but is online....

Great advice. I'll be honest I'd not thought about fees etc,. We do have sites to advertise stuff for sale. Gumtree, Friday Ads & Preloved to name a few.

Thank You. For your advise.

Hi

Your comments, like other Eurobrickers, are most helpful & I'm very grateful to you all.

As for your (cheeky :sweet:) 'request' for the parts, once I know what's what I'll let you know.

The bricklink prices for the 8466 are much higher than the (german) ebay ones, something to keep in mind. And if you sell the spare set of wheels on ebay, wait until the crawler is out and advertise them as better/larger crawler wheels or something.

Depending on the price I might be interested in one set of the unimog parts.

Your comments provide me with yet more 'food for thought'. Thank You.

As for buying the Uni Mog parts, I've a lot of thinking to do to try and come up with a price and choose the best way/place to sell. I'll let you know when I know (if that makes sense).

Your parts are easily worth a couple of hundred dollars, but selling bulk part lots usually doesn't get you much money. They are worth more selling them individually, but running a Bricklink store is a LOT of work in sorting, picking, packing, and shipping. Your best bet may be to simply see if one of us here wants to buy the whole lot. I'm sure several of us would be interested.

You have to have at least one hundred posts in other sections to be able to create a topic in that sub-forum. According to that section's rules, the mods may be willing to make an exception, depending on what you're attempting to buy/sell/trade.

I would be one of those who is interested. I tend to buy many bulk lots of parts.

I have a bricklink store, I have sold on ebay and I can tell you that neither are perfect if you are just trying to unload some parts. The only parts I currently have listed in my BL store are new parts and despite pretty attractive pricing on some of the parts they aren't moving super fast. The only times things move quickly is if you are selling parts that are in HIGH demand ...which are typically out of production parts in odd colors. The parts you have would sit for a while since there are at least 20 sellers around the world who have purchased 40+ of those models and part them out for sale on bricklink.

Of course the downside to selling to us is that on the face of it you may not get as good of a price...but TRUST me...its worth it to just dump them then wait around for months for them to sell at higher prices, and then to still pay all the fees.

I would sell my entire BL inventory if there was an offer out there...just so much easier.

Hi

Thank you for taking the time to impart your thoughts.

The more I read everyone's kind thoughts & advice the more muddled I get. There are, as everyone says, pros and cons no matter which way I decide to sell.

More thought needed, I think.

You have to have at least one hundred posts in other sections to be able to create a topic in that sub-forum. According to that section's rules, the mods may be willing to make an exception, depending on what you're attempting to buy/sell/trade.

OK. Thanks.

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Your comments, as other peoples, most interesting.

As for running a store on Bricklink being a lot of work. I'm disabled so have plenty of time and I'd need it too. If I were to sort pieces I'd be doing it for the proverbial 'month of Sundays!' I know my time's my own & costs nothing but there's a limit. People would never wait as long as I'd need.

Oh well, at least that's one option discounted.

Thanks again.

I got your request to move this thread, but since your not actually selling anything yet, I think it's getting the right attention from the right crowd here in the technic forum.
