I don't agree totally, if you look at the sets TLC introduced when PotC was launched, only half of the sets was based on "On Stange Tides". The rest was from the former three movies.

They will make some awesome sets of the Hobbit, but I think this theme will last longer than just 2 waves. Lets hope for some nice exclusives :)

Just wondering. The new line will come out along with the new videogame, right?

This probably means that, again, this new game will feature several unreleased characters and sets, which will eventually come out, but look a whole lot different. I really love those Lego games, but this is the only thing that reallly bothered me, especially with Indian Jones.

You have to remember, though, that PotC had only one wave, consisting of half Stranger Tides sets and half trilogy sets. LotR is getting a wave solely dedicated to the trilogy in the summer, so it's not unreasonable to think that the fall wave (since the second wave will be released in the fall) will be only The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey sets.

This theme will undoubtedly last more than two waves, since the second Hobbit film is coming out just a year later. It is probably safe to assume a minimum of four waves: summer and fall 2012, and summer and fall 2013. I would guess that the summer 2013 wave will contain a mix of Trilogy and Hobbit: AUJ sets, while the fall 2013 wave may contain sets only from The Hobbit: There and Back Again.

Holy balls, I made one complaint, that is a big one. The Hornburg tower is on the wrong side. Why is that bad or harsh or unnecessary criticism? Fans can say whatever they like about what they see. Opinions are open from anyone. Some people like the spider. Some people are excited no matter what. Some people arent happy with the figs. I believe its important to say what you think. Nothing is wrong with voicing your opinion, no matter what it is...

Didn't someone say that the one in the prelim picture is on the same side as in the book?

The Hornburg fortress is placed correctly in relation to the Deeping Wall, but On Stranger Tides noted that the tower is on the wrong side of the fortress, which is true. Personally I'm not bothered by it much, but hopefully it will nevertheless be in it's correct place in the final set and intructions.

Didnt someone say LEGO only have the rights to the movies?

Propably, but that is more of a thing keeping them from using characthers, places and stories from the books that didn't appear in the movies.

Well if the movie got it wrong from the book, then if they differ from the movie, does it matter? But you are right because it is on the wrong side. Hopefully they will change it.

I finally had a chance to see the preliminary pictures of the LOTR sets for myself and from what I was able to see I definitely won't be purchasing any of them not even for some of the unique pieces they may have. The sets definitely don't and won't fill the Castle/Kingdoms void if it in fact does replace the Castle line for the time being. As far as I'm concerned the only thing these sets have in common with Castle themed sets is a few of the same pieces here and there but not any more than some of the other themes do.

I'm going to go ahead and order my Kingdoms Joust set and hope there are at least a few more Kingdoms sets that come out this year but those prospects are starting to look really grim now.

The tower was probably detached and moved to get a better shot when the pic was being taken (PoP Alamut had the side walls detached and moved forward, in order to make the pic look better). In the fully-built set the tower will likely be in the right place.

After seeing the review of that new clone wars battle pack I tought the fabric parts could work well for Eomer so i did a quick drawing in paint with a mouse to see how it would look. Im quite please with the look, so I think I will modify my Eomer when/if I get him.

Atleast the shoulder pads, the skirt thing would be impractical on a horse.

I can't say i've very fond of all of the new licensed themes replacing the classic themes that have always been original and unlicensed. It makes me wonder if this is the downside of the sucess of starwars and lego beginning to take a larger intrest in the AFOL market.Maybe lego is running out of their own ideas as i have noticed so much repition in sets for the last few years.

The LOTR sets themselves look alright. The colour scheme of helms deep looks messy but the structure itself is nicely built. The curved castle walls are something that i haven't seen lego do before.

In moments like this one where I read your text, there I wish me that LEGO produces a LotR set alike the Diagon Alley. A set where everybody say: WOW, I want that set -instant!

I think, (and I think I'm not alone with this thought) this moment will come soon...

(Well, I save my money for this moment) :sweet:

EDIT: Additional I've to say that the first play sets looks (for play sets) very promising.

I respect your opinion and am sorry you do not like the sets. Like you I am a classic castle fan. I am an avid collector of those sets. I will certainly miss a generic castle theme over the next 2-3 years as well.

However, I do not agree at all that these sets have nothing but a few pieces in common with the castle themed sets. In fact these LOTR sets have a whole lot in common with the fantasy era castle series from 2007-2009. I would even venture a guess that the success of fantasy castle may well have led to the license we are seeing today.

When I look at the LOTR sets I see a set with a cart. I see a dwarf mine. I see a part of a wall and a siege weapon. I see a castle. The only new thing I see with these sets is new figures. One might say LOTR is a rehash of so many old castle sets. If I had no idea what Helm's Deep looked like, I would be totally impressed by TLG's innovative round castle design.

The LOTR theme may not adequately replace a castle theme for us fans, but its similarities IMHO cannot be ignored either.

I totally agree with you on that. I really do think that there is a possibility of Lego producing a UCS level set like Diagon Alley if the LOTR sets sell well, which I think that they will. Also, I think that the play sets do look very good for what they are. I do not expect Lego to do every major location in exact minifig scale and I really don't expect them to do every scene in the books but, if Lego can make some big sets like Helms Deep and some fun, minifig packed, smaller sets like the Urok Army than I will be totally satisfied. :sweet:

And I still think that we are pretty lucky that Lego got the LOTR license. Think if they had only gotten the Hobbit license and how disappointing that would be.

Yes I know what you mean, however I don't look at it as a castle theme, I see it more as another Licensed Theme like POTC and I will buy the sets because I have always been completely in love with the Lord of the Rings

My gut feeling is this theme will be more popular with AFOL's than anyone else.....that's not saying kids won't want LOTR....just the huge number of LOTR adult fans will want everything LOTR. Though I doubt it would ever come close to Star Wars.

Just a thought...

...if LEGO prduces 5x play set waves for:

- Summer 2012

- Winter 2012/13

- Summer 2013

- Winter 2013/14

- Summer 2014

(maybe more)

...and the most impressively main buildings/major locations for bigger LEGO sets are:

- 1 Esgaroth, Lake town (Hobbit)

- 2 Thanduril's halls (Hobbit)

- 3 Erebor, Lonley Mountain (Hobbit)

- 4 Dol Guldur (Hobbit)

- 5 The Shire (Hobbit/LotR)

- 6 Rivendell (Hobbit/LotR)

- 7 Mines of Moria (LotR)*

- 8 Helm's Deep (LotR)*

- 9 Edoras (LotR)

-10 Black Gate (LotR)

-11 Minas Tirith Citadel with the White tree (LotR)

-12 Minas Morgul (LotR)

-13 Barad-dur, the Dark tower (LotR)

-14 Orthanc, Isengard tower (LotR)

-15 Caras Galadhon, Lothlorien (LotR)

(Something forgotten? :look: )

15x major locations/5x play set waves = 3x major locations per wave

*Summer 2012: Are the Mines of Moria and Helm's Deep included. Maybe LEGO adds a big exclusive set for every play set wave  . (Star Wars gets also 2x exclusive sets per year.) Than it could be possible that we see every major location in LEGO style. ^^

I hope so... Maybe Rivendell and the Shire playsets for 2012 :cry_happy:

Because they tend to be in most movies (LotR and the Hobbit)
