R2-D2's redheaded step-brother

Recommended Posts

After seeing some of the other members who have tried their hand at these, I decided to get partially serious about these droids and threw this one together in a matter of 10 minutes.

The head on this one swivels and I wanted to show how easy it is to add detail on this scale without the use of stickers. I also changed the third leg to look more accurate. While all the color choices I used are not the best, they were the only colors I had on hand. I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks Brickmamba and M<0><0<DSWIM for calling me out and challenging me to do better. What do you guys think of this option? Obviously the tan bricks should be blue, but you get the idea.

Nice R2 unit, it's too bad you could not maintain the main body as a cylindrical form, having a rotatable head and 3rd leg are great features to have

This is really cool! I love the look of the legs and the lower half. I agree, the top part should be round. I would suggest using blue round 1x1 plates for the "stripes" attached to another 4x4 white round plate like you used in the lower part.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not sure I understand what you mean? Keep in mind that I have the 1X2 technic bricks there to hold the legs on with a technic pin?

I think the head needs to be lowered a bit it looks a bit too stretched, but the bodywork is really nice as is the third leg.

Yeah, that's much better, man! :sweet: Now all you need to do is BL those parts in the right color and lower the head by a plate, then you could sell this idea to Lego.

Nice Dapper, I really like the new legs especially the third leg. How does it look with one less round plate on the body as the R@ looks like he is leaning back too much. Apart from that you've done a great job on grating extra details with out the use of stickers.

What Astromech will you come out with next?

Looks good! Too bad there isn't a large head in R2's colours. I think it would be better to lower the head by one plate. It's too high IMO.

Thanks! I just placed a Bricklink order to finish this one off. He’s leaning back so far because he’s trying to get away from R2-D2. You’re right though Envy told me the same thing.

I’d like to do the one in the new tie fighter Lego just released next.

Thanks! I'm going to lower the head and post a new picture after I get the BL order.
