Heh, that's actually pretty funny, considering all that controversy about the comic srip. It's just a joke. Get over it.

Btw this image is definitly offensive, specially the 6 years comment... The creatir has gone a bit too far in the freedom of speech for me *wacko*

Careful what you say.

That 6 years part came out of The Bible.

And we wouldn't want to say anything bad about that Book now would we?

*wacko*

Uhh, personally as a liberal 20-something year old, it doesn't really bother me. Interesting commentary on the Bible versus modern standards about that sorta thing...

Tho maybe it would have been more considerate of the person to instead of using the actual Lego Logo to just use a red box with some parody name. On that point it definetly fails...

As a Muslim, I really don't care. Maybet it's because I'm not really into religion, I dunno. I must admit, I've laughed the crap off when I saw the wife joke. :-D And using the Timmy face for Aysha is hilarious!

I think TLC's (IMHO excessive) reaction has to do with what happened after the "comic incident" last fall and they want to make their standpoint clear. Too bad it has come to this. Radical muslims use this kind of stuff to "justify" their torrents of hatred against the western world. Just imagine the US would bomb any country that makes jokes about them...

This isn't the first fake set on the internet, and I want to be able to laugh about stuff like that without being called an anti-semite or racist. Except for that "6 year old" remark which makes this "set" look... un-PC, I find it quite funny. When did we ever get a 24 minifig pack, let alone with 23 females?

Lighten up, people, "both sides"...

I think that Lego bricks can be used as a political/religious satyre If and ONLY IF it doesn't draw a certain line which is really hard to set (we saw on EB in the past certain MOCS or topics that really created a huge polemic: some members were outraged whereas it was just fun for others).

In this case I think that it went overboard ;-)

And please, do keep this topic friendly my fellow EBers, meaning lets keep the passion of religion and politics in a friendly discussion ;-)

I thought we were Yoda :-). No big deal should be made out of this; I mean it's JUST humor. Just laugh and move on ;-)

I have always disliked the entire Brick Testament series, and we did discuss this about a year ago. I just resent have something so innocent and beautiful like Lego figs used for coarse sexual humor or violence.

Frankly the violence offends me more, and some of the stuff on Brick Testament is really impressive in how effectively it conveys suffering / bleeding / dismemberment. I don't know if everyone here has looked through the Brick Testament... really some of it bothers me a lot.

There's worse....

http://www.thebricktestament.com/judges/ga...t/jg19_29a.html

The sex stuff bothers me less, because (consensual) sex is just so damn funny it's hard to get too worked up about it. However, there's some horrible stuff there too, with gang rapes, etc.

Personally, I think it's sick, and the humor has been lost of me. However, clearly there is an audience for that sort of stuff...

I've seen a bit of it before, and it was my impression at the time that it was not meant as a joke; but to be an accurate depiction of real portions of The Bible.

No doubt. I'm not saying that I dislike his work because it "insults" the bible. Far from that - as a militant atheist I couldn't care less if it did or didn't, and judging by some of his other work, the "reverend" is not a religious fundamentlist. He may actually be trying to make a point about violence and our hypocrisy with regard to it. Which I would normally be cheering. Whatever.

I just wish he wouldn't use Lego to make ugly scenes. It's just not right.

Yeah yeah, "art", "juxtaposition of contradictory elements making the message more powerful".. blah blah artsy fartsy megablocks.

Leave Lego out of the world's evils.

And Gyl provided a perfect exemple of what I was saying ;-)

I didn't look at Brick Testament but the two exemples provided by Gyl do not offend me at all and I think its pretty well done - and I am not playing Devil's advocate.

Anyhow the Bible do depict some really crude scenes - its just the beauty of Human Nature (do sense the irony there ;-) ) so I am not chocked at all to see it depicted in bricks. Buts thats just me ;-)

So I come back to the problem of where to draw the line because X people = X different opinions ;-)

Yep,

Everyone has their own opinion about where the 'line' should be, and the problem is that if you try to draw it to cover everyone, then you end up with no one being allowed to ever say anything.

I think that the best way to deal with it is to have not line at all; people should just learn to accept each other's different opinions and simply close their eyes if they don't like what they see.

I have no issues with this approach.

I don't like it, but I can choose to ignore it. Heck, I even create links to it!

Too bad this doe not seem to be the way of our world, and so we get the grovelling and excessive (frankly, fearful) statement made by TLC in response to a couple of minifigs and a few words.

Yeah, but Lego's ALWAYS excessive in swatting down even the most mildly derogatory use of their brand name.

The site Newgrounds.com was stuck in an annoying lawsuit with a crappy gaming mag over something, and just when the admin's resources were stretched too thin, Lego jumped in with a cease and desist order telling them to remove Flash movies made by the users there that had Lego ANYTHING in them.

So, because he was already drained from the other party's lawsuit, he felt too drained to even fight Lego, deleting them all.

>__<

And that's sad, too... because not only were some NOT derogatory, some were damn near positively promotional.

But, time heals all wounds and the Newgrounds members have slowly returned new Lego Flash submissions to the site.

I do understand their swiftness in this current matter at hand... Who wants kamikaze religious fanatics on their bad side? And I'd venture this was CLEARLY done for the shock value / Muslim anger of it.

Still... this is pretty tame stuff. There's (or at least were) alot worse Lego porn sites out there. And I'll be the first to admit that they're not "perverted". They're "funny as hell". The whole thought that someone could actually be gettin' hot and bothered over smiling Lego figures is a ludicrous riot. :-D

It's funny because it's so preposterous... less sexual than even stick figures drawn on a napkin.

X D
