Ahh, see our online shop and the LEGO stores have the same release dates, but regular retailers get them early, but can't put them out until the release date.

And the Kingdoms Joust were released Jan 1st, (We just picked those up at the LEGO store this weekend. Retailers never get those sets, they are LEGO exclusive for the most part.

The Star Wars sets don't have a release date until Jan 31st.

Our argos (UK) had them pretty much at the beginning of January and were selling them too... Toys R Us have just gotten these in, probably about a week ago/ish... im rather surprised Lego S@H are waiting until the 31st January, they are losing sales by doing this imo :o

Thanks for the review. Your photography and textural content really could use some work though, so I encourage you to join the Reviewers Academy.

And four minifigs *oh2*?!? Never expected a smaller set like this come with all that.

Really? There are many smaller sets than this that have an equal or larger amount of figs, especially in this wave, and I wouldn't consider this to be a small set, so four figs is actually almost disappointing for $55, but since at least half of them are exclusive and three of them are extras, that's OK I guess.

Cool been waiting for a review on the new tie, one of the few summer sets I will be definitely getting (2 would go nicely with the anniversary Darth tie)

Actual review can do with a bit a work, more pics in general of the build and the figures and description with price, number of pieces etc. and a final rating, regardless nice effort anyways, you know for next time

Fantastic!

Since I don't have any of the classic SW ships, this is a must buy for me (along with the new X-Wing). And four minifigs *oh2*?!? Never expected a smaller set like this come with all that.

Have you heard of battlepacks?

Thank you for the review!

I consider this one of LEGO's best sets at the moment!

Can't wait to get one! :sweet:

I dunno, that is our release date. I'm sure it had to do with the supply chain though. Staggering logistics globally to get new releases to the entire world doesn't just happen by accident ;)

I'd read that's supposed to be the release date for all the 2012 SW stuff, Hasbro, LEGO, etc. to coincide with the Phantom Menace (in 3-D!!!) release on February 10th. Some places are disregarding this and have Hasbro stuff out already.

Thanks, but I have no interest in super-nerdifying reviews of LEGO professionally

I already do that from time to time for plastic models for the IPMS-USA.

 No, I meant in comparison with plastic model reviews. You have no idea how much scale modelers are concerned with details in reviews. Guys will take a kit that looks perfectly great to any person, and rip it apart for scale and historic accuracy reasons to an insane level, usually culminating in needing to use an aftermarket photo-etched brass set to improve something as trivial as mounting brackets on jerry cans :hmpf:

Personally, I don't like that with LEGO sets, they were never meant to be accurate scale representations IMHO, they are meant to be fun. This was not intended to be a thorough review of the kit. Just a conversation piece. :classic:

Well, you're right about one thing, it's not a small set (= 413 pieces). I don't no why but I had this idea it had no more then 200 pieces only :hmpf:.

Even more desirable to me now .

I know where you're coming from, but I have to say that sometimes I feel the "Eurobricks professionalism" sometimes gets in the way of casual LEGO fun. As the reviewer said, this isn't really a review at all. He's just showing us some pictures of the new TIE fighter, for which I am grateful.

If someone wants to make a three page long, extensively detailed review, then great. But I don't think we should demerit smaller, casual reviews just because some people have more time on their hands.

Just pointing something out since I've seen that attitude a lot here lately. :classic:

Agreed. We're going to scare people away telling them their grammar is bad, their pictures don't have a white backdrop, they aren't in some reviewing academy, etc. Who cares! If you can do better, buy the set and do your own review. Let people review the set how they want, and the mods can decide if it's worth archiving.

Thanks for the pictures, more than enough detail in them for most to decide if it's worth buying or not.

Think I'll wait for Amazon to knock at least 20% plus off the rrp though.

Yes Oky, I realize you are trying to offer constructive criticism here, but there IS a fine line between constructive criticism and passive-agressiveness. Your wording here implies that "I didn't do it right". I understand your meaning, that in your mind my review was not "up to snuff" with other, more thorough reviews, however to a more sensitive, less lighthearted person, this kind of comment could be taken as destructive criticism, and could potentially discourage someone from posting further reviews.

Oh yes, the skewed cockpit struts of the Fine Molds X-wing and the sorry paint job on the eFX.

It's no skin off my nose that this may fall below the standard for Eurobricks reviews. I only feel appreciation for the provision of these images, regardless of their quality. :classic:

First time I've seen another IPMS member on EB's :classic:.

How is the UK IPMS? I am undecided on ours. On one hand I like being part of the Reviewer Corps, for the obvious benefit of free kits, and there are a lot of great modelers who freely share knowledge.

On the other hand the forums are very clique-ey and a lot of the older members don't have a clue how to effectively spread the hobby to a younger generation, even though they recognize that is a very big issue in general for the hobby. All they want to do is blame the internet and video games, instead of actively doing something about it. The IPMS-USA Journal and forums also seems to be a little too heavy on internal IPMS-USA politics, of which I don't care about and I don't really want to know about who gets elected to what position etc. Despite that, I renewed my membership for the second year to give it a fair shake.

I have to admit, I've had all three planet sets, the droid escape set and this new tie set for over a month, and was tempted to try a review, but didn't because I was concerned about how the n00b would be treated by existing members.

Maybe next time.

Apologies for the threadjack.

Not at all Blue! no worries. LEGO translates to "Play Well", that is what we are supposed to do with LEGO!

To be a critic, a person needs to first know what they are talking about, it's just unfortunate when that knowledge sometimes turns people into elitists who forget the time when they themselves were n00bs. The anonymity of the INTERNET often makes people say things they normally wouldn't in f2f conversation. I say Review Away! If someone doesn't like it, who cares? There will be 10 more people that will like it. Be true to yourself!

Just built this set. Must say this was one of the most fun sets to build in a long time. I really like this scale as it is still kinda suitable for minifigs, but also large enough for some more accuracy and detail. Somewhere in between UCS and system scale. Hope this sets the bar for future SW sets. Figs are also nice! For kids a bit expensive though... No issue for me, please go on like this Lego, great job! Now release the other TIE's, a Snowspeeder, Republic Gunship, AT-AT and ARC-170 in this scale ;-)

Please don't get me wrong; there's certainly nothing wrong with doing a "casual review", and I never meant to imply that you aren't "doing it right." All I meant was that it's not as good as it could be, but if you're not interested in improving yourself, that's totally fine. And it's not that I don't appreciate your review, in the contrary! That's why I blogged it after all.

You're right, I don't. And you're also right that Lego sets should never be taken that seriously, except maybe UCS sets. Those nerdy reviews shouldn't discourage you to strive for a bit more professionalism in your Lego reviews. Heck, we in the academy don't even grade on the content; all we ask is that you don't let the pictures speak for themselves. I suggest to give it a try, but again, if you're not interested, that's cool. :classic:

Why does he need what you consider to be professionalism in his reviews? He gave us some nice pictures and what he thought of the set in readable English. Maybe he doesn't want to document the whole build and spend time uploading tons of pictures and comparisons to other sets.

If people want to join a Lego review club I'm sure they'll contact you. Don't go into people's threads saying their review isn't the quality you like and pitch your club to them. As already stated by Blue, we'd have more pictures on here if people weren't so judgmental. Let it go. As said before, if you can do better buy the set and review it yourself.

Just got mine last weekend. The middle section with the cockpit and pylons is quite nice, the new window piece looks a lot better than i expected. But the real gems are the side panels, the designers did a really REALLY good job on those this time!

And that is just looking at the model itself, the pretty decent selection of minifigs is a nice bonus!

If you are considering to buy this but aren't sure yet, take my advice and go get it. You won't be disappointed!

I was also impressed with the way the side panels were built- very nice IMHO.

Other comments about earlier incarnations of LEGO TIE Fighters made me wonder about the scale. I only own one other TIE, 8017 Darth Vader's TIE Fighter, so I thought I'd compare the scale.

Not bad really, considering this movie shot of the Trench Run

Trench_run_TIEs.jpg

Now it is evident that I NEED a second one of these to display as the other escort for Vader's Advanced TIE

If I ever get my hands on one (or a wing) of the new X-Wing fighters, I believe it will make a nice shelf display with the Millenium Falcon bringing up the rear ;)

IMG_2807.jpg

Even though the Falcon is not to scale, it is still my personal favorite of all the Star Wars sets I have.
