Norro Posted October 1, 2006 Elroy Davis posted his 18th Century Howitzer over on Lugnet. Not bad at all! Pic=link to BS gallery... God Bless, Nathan
El Bucanero Posted October 1, 2006 Looks very good indeed, technic tubes work better than black cones, I really like the way he did the carriage, the only thing we need now is a way to do a ship carriage and instructions *pirate*
Mister Phes Posted October 1, 2006 It looks much more easier to cart round than this... Maybe the Imperial forces will consider upgrading! :-D
Norro Posted October 1, 2006 Here is a ship adaption on Lugnet... God Bless, Nathan
Tordenskjold Posted October 1, 2006 Mr Tiber. you said "technic tubes" do you have a number for them that i can find on bricklink? try to look after that but couldnt find anything that looked like that.
Mister Phes Posted October 2, 2006 Lets compare! Hmmm... They seem to look quite different don't they? The base that is - the cannons look almost the same. Does anyone know what the proper name for a cannon base is?
Aaron Morse Posted October 2, 2006 Lets compare! Hmmm... They seem to look quite different don't they? The base that is - the cannons look almost the same. Does anyone know what the proper name for a cannon base is? I believe its called a carriage or gun carriage. and the part number for the round technic pin connector on bricklink is 75535
Berry Syedow Posted October 3, 2006 This latest cannon adaptation is quite convincing. The ship equivalent is adequately suitable. Something not so SNOTty is preferable, but the inclusion of train wheels is an inspired choice.
Grrr Posted October 3, 2006 I actually think this design would work quite well if extended out to a 6 stud base. Might have a play later and see how it works. The picture above just seems a tad stubby and fat.
Mister Phes Posted October 3, 2006 I believe its called a carriage or gun carriage. and the part number for the round technic pin connector on bricklink is 75535 Peeron.com just calls it "cannon base" But a Google search for "gun carriage" seems to reveal images like this... Norro Posted October 3, 2006 The wheels are definately a great inclusion, though not exactly a common element... Note how they resemble Phes' picture. God Bless, Nathan
Scouty Posted October 3, 2006 Yeah, they do look similar. The moc of the ship canon's base is alot closer to the one that lego make, of course the canons look different though. I really like these two canons though. Great find!
SirScottLego Posted October 3, 2006 Have we figured out what peices exactly this cannon takes... how can we find the necessary peices on peeron?
Aaron Morse Posted October 3, 2006 I shouldve been more specific. I meant in real life its called a gun carriage, in Lego speak its probably called a "Gun holdy thingy" or a "boom stick holder" btw how is the boom stick attached to the boom stick holder? Peeron.com just calls it "cannon base" But a Google search for "gun carriage" seems to reveal images like this...
SirScottLego Posted October 3, 2006 what about the "technic tubes"? Any idea on what # that is?
Norro Posted October 3, 2006 Have we figured out what peices exactly this cannon takes... how can we find the necessary peices on peeron? well it looks like two of these (pic = link) joined by a technique pin, then attached to a hook, then a standard round 1x1, and finally one of those technique knob pieces... Mister Phes Posted October 4, 2006 I shouldve been more specific. I meant in real life its called a gun carriage, in Lego speak its probably called a "Gun holdy thingy" or a "boom stick holder" I like I mention in my last post in LEGO speak its simply "cannon base" btw how is the boom stick attached to the boom stick holder? The LEGO cannon base has clips on either side - if that's what you're referring to...
SuvieD Posted October 4, 2006 That looks similar to the custom cannons I have. Mine are shorter and use the newer wheel/pucks from the KK2 catapult. Great minds must think alike. This is the best way I have found to make a mid-size cannon though the technic pin connector and wheels can end up costing quite a bit it is still much cheaper than the official cannons. Mister Phes Posted October 4, 2006 Could you post pictures of your custom cannons, SuvieD?
Aaron Morse Posted October 4, 2006 Actually I meant the MOC cannon :) I like I mention in my last post in LEGO speak its simply "cannon base"The LEGO cannon base has clips on either side - if that's what you're referring to...
Scouty Posted October 4, 2006 It uses this or this and this or this I guess. These are what I believe might be the pieces. [Pictures from Bricklink]
TaltosVT Posted October 5, 2006 Hi all, I might be able to help out a bit, as I'm the builder of the original howitzer that was posted. Tim Gould used the barrel design for his ship version. I'm still working on how he built his base. Anyway, the barrel looks like this: It's two technic pin connectors, held together by a technic friction pin. Then a horizontal clip (or vertical clip, I always get the two mixed up), then a 1x1 round. The end is a technic pin with towball. The carriage is best seen in this pic: Basically everything clips onto one of the new(ish) handle pieces: The handle piece is connected to the bottom of a 2x2 plate with wheel holders. My main reason for creating it was to go along with the model of Fort Ticonderoga that I'm building. The story of that whole saga is here if anyone is interested: The Ticonderoga Project -Elroy
Mister Phes Posted October 5, 2006 My word we would be interested Elroy! By all means create a thread for your project here and that way you can give your website some exposure and your creation can get some discussion - if that's what you want.
SirScottLego Posted October 5, 2006 Elroy, Bravo! simply magnificent. Thanks for sharing the details, I loved your website and look forward to the progress of your ambitious project! Thanks for sharing!
El Bucanero Posted October 5, 2006 I believe those pieces are also in LDD, my computer fails to install LDD...so for the ones who have it could they check if these pieces are available in there??
