Kisvakond Posted November 17, 2011 (edited) Welcome Kisvakond. I'm glad you found our EB LEGO Train community. I really like your Beka locomotive. In fact, it's an outstanding first 9V MOC. I hope you enjoy the forum and look forward to seeing your future creations. Thanks, Mr. Brickster! : ) I'm glad to hear that, really. To tell you the truth, the longer I'm reading the Train Tech forum, much the more I like it! I guess a good "Train Fan" Community here! By the way I have more existing MOCs to present, so soon I will bring with them out.. Bye, ..::Kisvakond::.. So, after a long period - I'm back again opening my own topic here - as I promised, and my main goal is to 'shocking' all of you with my former train MOC's.. Just kidding.. Let's see.. My First 9V MOC with working PF LED-lights + manually adjustable pantograph from last year: GANZ BHEV "Beka" Locomotive from 1896, Hungary See it in action at a MALUG-meeting at Budapest: http://www.youtube.c...f/0/ktssQLkBDAk Bye, ..::Kisvakond::.. kyphur Posted November 17, 2011 Nice, do you have any images of the prototype? The pantograph design is nice but it does look like it's either a bit large or the engine beneath it is a bit small. I'm just wondering if that's the scale of the original or kind of forced by the limitations of the medium (Lego)?
Kisvakond Posted November 17, 2011 (edited) Hello kyphur! Thanks, of course, here is the original photo (1st in the folder) of the original modelled little BURV-1 loco built in 1896 by Ganz factory for the Budapest-Újpest-Rákospalota Local Railway : http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=449361 Further photos: http://villamosok.hu/nza/beka.html These locos were very tiny, little, cute, stumpy, dumplings so from here comes their name: "Béka" which means "Frog" It also expains the relative big pantograph, as you see on the several original picture (on the link above): it comes all shapes and sizes. I thought later, that a frog must be green of course.. that is why I built it in green color. These locos were used to also forward passanger cars.. : ..same as freight cars too serving the needs of the booming local industry of Budapest at the beginning of the 20th century: Edited November 18, 2011 by Kisvakond
LEGO Guy Bri Posted November 18, 2011 Great MOC 'Kisvakond'. You really nailed the recreation of this little loco. So it has work PF lights? How did you hook these up. I run mainly 9V and want to add lights but, I thought it involved a battery box, which is what I'm trying to avoid. Keep on building
peterab Posted November 18, 2011 So it has work PF lights? How did you hook these up. I run mainly 9V and want to add lights but, I thought it involved a battery box, which is what I'm trying to avoid. The PF light cable has a 9V adapter, which you can plug straight onto a 9V motor. The disadvantage to this method is the current and therefore brightness will vary with the speed of the motor, the advantage is; no battery needed.
lightningtiger Posted November 18, 2011 AWESOME engine ' Kisvakond ', and that is one pantograph - a huge on it's design....including said pantograph. Keep them coming ' Kisvakond ' and Brick On !
Hrw-Amen Posted November 18, 2011 Oh yes I see what you mean, it is a bit of a large pantograph isn't it. Nice model though, it seems to be just right.

'peterab' has already revealed the secret: just a PF/9V converter cable was used, because of the lack of space..

Thanks lightningtiger! Altough it's a last year modell - too big, heavy & not so sophisticated - I became a real "pantograph maniac" because I am struggling for create more & more precise ones.. Ok, thanks, you too!

Kisvakond Posted November 27, 2011 (edited) Do you think you could make a BDvMot,or have you made one? Hello Spikey! It could be possible, but multiple units are not really my business.. I like to build locos and freight trains. ..but one of my LUG-mate kvp is addicted to build these multiple units ( http://hu.wikipedia....wiki/Motorvonat ) Look at his great "Silkworm", which is "close relative" of the BDVmot : http://www.brickshel...y.cgi?i=4835775 Edited November 27, 2011 by Kisvakond
