Where to buy Lego in Washington DC?

Recommended Posts

My Fiancee is heading over to Washington DC in a few weeks for a conference at Walter E Washington Convention Center. She's offered to pick me up some Lego while she's there

Can anyone recommend anywhere close by that sells cheap Lego? Travelling far isn't an option so would need to be in the vicinty of the center.

Cheers

Hi,

I went to Washington on holiday a few weeks ago. Stayed just off the Mall, by the Capitol Building, so quite close to the convention centre. There's not a large amount of shops there, it's mainly landmarks, sites, museums and attractions. I did go to Tyson's Corner shopping mall which is a Metro journey and bus ride away. That has an actual Lego brand store in it. Apart from that, I didn't see a TRU or Target anywhere. Not saying there weren't any, just that I never saw them.

Hope this helps.

Let me help

LEGO isn't really cheap anywhere so you may as well hit up an authentic LEGO store.

If you buy from a bricks and mortar store, LEGO or otherwise, you'll have to pay sales tax, which is 6% (I believe) in DC. Could you buy the LEGO set on amazon.com (not .co.uk) and have it shipped to her DC hotel? You might have to ok it with the hotel first, but you could save some money that way...

Yeah, I can't think of anywhere better to get LEGO in the D.C. area than the two LEGO Brand Stores in Northern Virginia. One, as mentioned before is at the Tysons Corner shopping center, while the other is at Potomac Mills. There's one more in Annapolis, Maryland and a fourth in Hanover. I don't know of anywhere to find LEGO at a bargain in the area, but at the brand stores you can at least get them at MSRP, and be eligible for VIP points while you're at it.

EDIT: Just saw your point about not being able to travel far outside the city. D.C. itself isn't the best for shopping, but if you want LEGO I might suggest the National Building Museum. They currently have an exhibition of LEGO Architecture by LEGO Certified Professional Adam Reed Tucker. The actual architecture sets should be sold at the exhibit, and I'd think the White House set would make a good souvenir, although again I can't guarantee you a discount.
