MOC: Large 12V-Era Train Station

Recommended Posts

Keep up the good work.

Cant wait to see the finished product!!!

That could take awhile at this pace, but I'm not in a rush :)

Iteration one of main building:

Street view from two angles, with personnel entrance ^^

Top view. Ticket booth and luggage drop off. Any ideas what else I can put in there? A telephone or some seats maybe?

If people have suggestions for a name for the station, let them hear. I'm also looking for white 1x1 tiles with the numbers 1 through 4 on them for numbering the platforms, two of each, so 8 total.

I decided to 'furnish' the station a bit with trains and people. There are however still a few things that need doing:

- Make the platforms longer so they accommodate the trains better

- Add a second floor for the main building. I'm really not sure what to put there though.

- Add lighting. All lanterns and every room of the building will get a light brick..eventually. I have about 15 of those so that should be enough, but the wiring is going to be a &&*#

- Buy more 7860 signal posts (want 4, have 1) and add them to the station

- Actually build a track around the station so the trains can run laps (will require moving the entire thing :()

- Add the crossing from 7866

- Think of a proper name

But yeah, for now here's some pics:

This is looking incredibly good.

Im hoping to add a better station (probably a standard one and then extend it a bit) for my 7745.

I built the alternate scheme for this set tonight(steam train and signal box/platform/buffers) and really like having something better than the very basic platform it comes with originally.

I have bought a second one just a few days ago, it should be here by the weekend. I think I can modify the walkway slightly so that I can hang the signals from it, over their respective tracks. It'll still be only two (want 4), but it's better than nothing!

I have also purchased some small 1x1 tiles numbered 1 through 4 and added them to the platforms. Assuming I have time this weekend, I will expand the last platform, add a small waiting room there and start adding the lights and signals.

I'm not quite sure about the exact means by which I fixed them..I like the idea of small posts but the current ones seem a bit fat.

I also got my hands on a third signal mast :D

A nice load of container trucks there... will there be a container terminal (or 3) on the other side?...

I'm thinking of building one for the 7777 redux contest, or I could just submit the entire station once its finished. In any case, the money spent on buying 2x 7823 (I stumbled upon the third car by accident and it was all but free!) warrants me building a cargo-center in the future any way, so there will be one, I'm just not sure when!

I've added the signal lights, but since I have only two (third one is on the way, need to find a fourth!) I had to 'cycle' them :)

Affixed to the walkway:

IMG_0730.JPG?m=1315674378

IMG_0731.JPG?m=1315674394

And to a stand-alone structure for the tracks that run in opposite direction:

IMG_0727.JPG?m=1315674378

IMG_0728.JPG?m=1315674393

IMG_0729.JPG?m=1315674408

Meanwhile, I also made a waiting room for platform 4:

I tried to re-build the main building with a second floor, but it turned out way too bulky for my liking:

IMG_0736.JPG?m=1315746096

IMG_0737.JPG?m=1315746096

So I demolished it again and settled for a one-story version:

IMG_0739.JPG?m=1315746148

(The reception window you see is for the luggage drop-off)

IMG_0741.JPG?m=1315746148

From left to right, employee entrance door, two ticket booths and some more chairs for waiting passengers.

I think I'll make do without a second story - there's not alot of useful stuff to put there and it takes up a lot of space making the station look bulky. Instead, I'll probably stick with this slimmer approach and start focussing on putting lighting bricks in all the lamp posts and all the buildings.

More soonâ„¢

I finally got around to putting light bricks in all the buildings and sorting out all the wires. Unfortunately my camera isn't very good but it should at least give you an impression:

Next thing to do now is wait until I have 4 signal posts and add them :)

Very nice - this one is only getting better!

You could add some details outside the buildings; bench, time-table, luggage rack...

I'm a bit hesitant to add too much detail because real-life railway stations are, taken at face value, often quite empty and the other official LEGO sets from the era did not have awhole lot of detail. But there are a few things like more minifigs, luggage and a phonebooth that I could add.

More on that later :)

Well, yes and no.

It is true that there is not much advanced detail, but the platforms seem more crowdy with people but also simple details:

Well! I love what you are doing - don't get me wrong!

You are living my dream:

I have about 250 straight and 25+ curved tracks, 8-10 motors, 4 signals and 15 switch points - all 12v.

My problem is the space: I don't have it. My layout usually stays only for 2 days :-(

Yeah, it's an old style station, you have do a good job, and the illumination it's pretty cool, it's 12V construction but if you like it, you will be valorize it.

The entire thing is massive. All the good old 12Volt trains and the entire style just screams classic town. Can't wait to see it finished

I'll add a few finishing touches this weekend but afterwards I'll tear it down because it occupies the better part of my floorspace and I have a load of Technic to sort out (for which I haven't the space now), and I want to start building a thing or two for the 7777 redux contest :)

For night shots, see this post.

It's been occupying the better part of my floor space for well over a month now so its time to make room for something else. I really liked coming back home every weekend and spending some time messing around with the station, I might have a go at building a dead-end station sometime in the future. Thanks to everyone who commented and I'll definitely be back with more train related mocs in the future :)

I've been waiting to see the "finished product" before commenting, and the wait has been worth is Sok, a great station. Back in my early 12v days I dreamed of a station like that. The little platforms that came with the sets were never enough, a platform should be long enough for the whole train imo. This does that and has so much more besides.

The details are fantastic, all the components are there - signals, bridges, various rooms and offices. The front cover of a new version of the 7777 book would be graced well by this.

Well done.

Andy
