2012 City sets

Recommended Posts

Looks like this piece to me.

Oh, well my bad....but how would I know.....I don't build Technic sets !

Still it's a great lift truck design, interesting foot railing from those little racer sets....ha, I know those (got some of those parts).

Also a close look at the tipper truck the back of the tipper bed and the flap are a new part that has studs only on the ends of the panel, the bed itself is also made from by what it looks like 3 6 wide U shaped panels with studs on leading and trailing edges only.

Had anyone notice in the recycling set a whole new part...the forks....it's a new 4 wide technic modified brick.

See for yourself.....4206 Recycling Truck/Depot

That's not new, it's OLD. I recognize it from quite a few sets from the '90s.

Do some/many of you really like the new dark tan/tan brickwork bricks. They scream Megabloks to me. I think they are horrible looking. I'm really disappointed and hope we don't get many more new pieces like this in the future.

I know, I know - I can choose not to use them and i'm not being forced to buy them but are they really necessary?

It's only a texture same as the bricks with vertical and horizontal ridges or the grille tiles. It all adds to the mix and used right helps breaks up the monotony of smooth sided models. It's a detail. They aren't going to replace regular bricks.

The sets it's used in have only a small number of the brick included. And if you don't like them in a set there's bound to be loads of people willing to trade for them or just outright buy them.

Personally. I'd like to see a building using nothing but these new bricks for the walls. Perhaps in white.

Early pics of new sets to get the money flowing from the wallet already and its not even 2012 yet :(. Love the new brick facade piece included in the police buidling sets that :thumbup:looks like actual bricks, I can already think of a hundred ideas for that particular piece on buildings.

Money isn't even a factor for me with Lego, when I think about how much I spent on my car last year, for example, a Lego set (or 10) is nothing by comparison.

These sets are phenomenal. Going to get most of them. The off road fire truck with the amphibious vehicle doesn't really appeal to me though. The one from a year or two ago was far better. I love the bad guy hide out and that camper!

I completely agree, they just look... wrong. I've already expressed my dislike in the Ninjago topic. :sadnew:

"I'm disappointed too. With these pieces, Lego have rendered all my investment to date useless. I feel personally let down by Lego over this and I'll certainly be buying less of your product in future"

Sorry, perhaps that's unfair in this case - just reminded me of http://news.lugnet.com/general/?n=43860 :classic:

 Friday I'll see if I have new pictures of the 2012 sets can make.

Then I put them on a Dutch website.

This is a friend.

I don't see how these are more "Megabloks" than the pallisade bricks we've had since Wild West? I think the new brick piece is well-designed, and the thieves hideout shows how much these can contribute to a model. What would previously be an unremarkable two-by-two column becomes a recognizable chimney. Both these sets and the Ninjago sets use these bricks sparsely and tastefully, unlike how Megabloks used similar elements to add "detail" to flat, boring castle walls. I can't wait to decide what else to use these new elements for: I'm already envisioning them in a SNOT brick walkway.

I too can not see the issue with the new 'bricked' brick, we have the log brick and the grill brick....anyone complain about those ?

This new brick will be handy to all city MOC'ers....perhaps none more important as those who build modulars.

'legomilk', I was trying to make sense of your statement....do you possibly have extra shots or even dare I say 2H wave images ? :look:

The recycling and tipper trucks look fantastic, but I wish there are more City buildings.

TLC has almost completed their ultimate goal of a complete vehicalization of the entire City line! Only two pesky buildings remain -- that goofy forest ranger station, and the little shack for the outlaws. By next year, even those will be gone, and it will be nothing but glorious vehicles!!

All kidding aside, it's a strange trend. I can't imagine TLC releasing a Castle theme with no castles in it. So why have a City theme with no buildings??

I think I will pick up all the vehicles expect the 4WD Dirt Bike set

and the only police set I will get is the log cabin for the bear.

Well, there are not many buildings in the forest....plus we don't know all the sets for next year yet....there is still the second half releases we don't about (though it was hinted mining sets).

This year only saw a police station, bank, small shed in the harbour and a cafe/surf shop in the marina set....so already next year two structures, so they are half way there !

Because in the Castle theme, kids prefer castles to carriages, and in the City theme, kids prefer vehicles to buildings. It's just a matter of which type of product sells better.

With that said, I hope there's more buildings in the summer wave. Not that I mind the vehicles-- frankly, I have more fun building vehicle MOCs than building MOCs, and the vehicle sets mostly meet my expectations.

Quite true about the vehicles aspect, but my son likes the buildings too...so it depends on the child what they like.

Though the crook's hideout might become the most popular set of 2012, because we have always had a police station, but never a hideout for all our baddies !

Those new police sets want to make me a scary cannibal inbred hillbilly infested redneck house. :pir-cry_sad: Like those from the hills have eyes, the house of a thousand corpses and that very creepy X-Files episode 'home'.

Don't forget a whiskey still.....moonshine....that's what keeps them rednecks !

My fingers are still crossed for a truck stop....now then we'll get even more rednecks right ?

Sorry, drifting slightly off topic.

Haha... Rednecks really give me the creeps, especially if they are from the middle of nowhere. :cry_sad:

It would be kewl to see some loggers, like that show from discovery channel, but I don't think TLG would be willing to commercialise that into a toy. Although it would make a nice moc idea.

It wasn't until I saw the picture of 4438that I knew I would buy a city set from this wave. It got all that I wanted from this theme in one set: the new hats, the brick pattern bricks, the round plates with pegs and of course the bear! It doesn't seem to cost me a fortune neither.

In overall I think this wave of City sets look pretty good. I'm not a car or vehicle fan so I won't buy them but I think they are nicely designed and should probably please the interested ones. I do agree on the lack of buildings though, they usually provide the most interesting pieces MOC-wise for me.

LEGO can't really condone logging and push recycling at the same time. Unless they made it the logging of a managed pine plantation and included the planting of saplings. There again LEGO have been stingy with the trees in the forest city sets and it's rare to see the one piece conifer tree these days so I'm guessing that logging is far from the minds of LEGO designers.

It would be kinda cool to see one of those mechanical logging machines in Lego form though. The small machines not the factory sized ones.

Let's not make pretend LEGO has some sort of envrionmental message agenda. It doesn't. TECHNIC features a logging set this year, and the second wave of city sets includes mining.
