LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors

I hear you. I think if they did do a Theed playset, the majority of it would be the hangar and reactor, with the throne room on the side. A small vehicle in the hangar, working doors, hidden compartment for those guns, and it won't be much different from Echo Base.

Yeah, thats pretty much what I was thinking. I don't think it will be like 8038, because there are too many rooms to cover. I have to say, I think I would like that set. Because I actually kind of like Echo base.

Not entirely out of the question. I do also doubt we'd get the Royal Starship, though, because all the exclusive minifigs you might expect to be on it are in the Scimitar. As if TLG decided they weren't going to do the Royal Starship, so they stuck the minifigs in the Scimitar since that's almost the right scene. I don't see any other reason for Panaka to be in the Scimitar.

Hmmm, you make a discouragingly good point... but then LEGO aren't always accurate with their character placement and also duplicate characters throughout different sets (Clone Wars, POTC). If we see a Theed playset it'd be daft for LEGO not to include Panaka, Qui Gon and Obi - who've all just made their appearance in this most recent release.

That sounds like an amazing playset! Though I did feel a pain in my chest upon reading that last comment.... In this land of specualtion I'd like to think it'd be more akin to Home One.

Also a good point. I would expect TLG would include Panaka in a Theed set, though that would be a Naboo set, not a Tatooine set, as the Scimitar was, as the Royal Starship's biggest scenes are on Tatooine.

 Well we know 7754 was a 10th Anniversary set, which tend to be more special than the normal sets, so I compared it to 7879 because that's a recent normal System release. (other than its Limited Edition status, but we all know that doesn't mean anything as far as set design is concerned)

dose anyone know what the other jan sets are?

Well we are getting 6 system sets, one being a TIE, then it is rumoured that we are getting one endor BP, and one Clone vs Droid BP. Then two retailer Exclusives/SE sets, then another rumour says we also get three sets that are similar to the Collectible minifigures, except they are actual sets, and they aren't randomly packed.

As "Mirandir" said on this page. He also said these are separate from the 6 system and 2 SE sets in the Jan. wave, making for a total of 11 sets. Obviously, these are still rumours though.

I don't know. Personally, everything except the Amidala fig and the TIE seems ludicruous to me. SW Collectible minifigs? Multi faction battlepacks? I honestly have no clue where people think of this stuff.

He actually doesn't say they're going to be minifigs; he says they'll be non-random 'collectible' display pieces. It sounds like either some small sets with display stands (maybe MINIs?) or a return to the $4.99 sets. (which would be awesome :sweet: )

Like I said, they are like the CM's, but actual sets. Anyway, these sets will probably be overpriced, but maybe they could be mini/midi display pieces, with a high amount of detail, similar to UCS but scaled down. Or it could be minifig-scale, but again with a high amount of detail, and highly detailed minifigures. Maybe it could be something like the Architecture sets. They could come with a little booklet with info about the model, some screenshots, and stuff like that. Although it does seem like TLG is getting a bit lazy with the Architecture sets... (off topic)

Ah yes like a Architecture Cloud city, Death star or maybe Mos Eisley.

I feel the opposite. Throwing Panaka and Tatooine Padme into the Infiltrator frees up some slots for other potential exclusive minifigures in the Royal Starship. Keep in mind if we do get the Queen's ship we'll probally only be getting around 6 minifigures in it, and like the Falcon most of them will be the main heroes - Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Queen Amidala, Jar-Jar, R2-D2 and Anakin. Amidala will be one exclusive and assuming one of the other heroes gets left out in favor for another then there's also Handmaiden Padme, Ric Olie or one of the different color astromech droids - characters that can't really be included in many other sets the same way Panaka and Tatooine Padme can.

It's an idea, though remember that the Architecture sets are designed by Adam Reed Tucker, not TLG's set designers.

It's not the exclusivity of the minifigs that's the issue, it's the fact that they're in the set at all. The Royal Starship's main scenes are on Tatooine, so if it was a set, it would probably be set during the Tatooine scenes. The fact that Panaka is in the Scimitar tells me that TLG probably isn't doing a Royal Starship, since Panaka didn't leave the Royal Starship during its time on Tatooine, and he didn't participate in the battle with Maul, there would be no reason for him to be in the set and not the Royal Starship unless TLG didn't intend to make the Royal Starship and wanted Panaka in a Tatooine set.

I shudder wondering how TLG would build a palace scene that would even somewhat resemble the movie, not to mention enough features to keep kids interested in it.

Very interesting. So like smaller modular buildings. Or small sets that add on to each other, like Jabba's Palace. Though normally TLG doesn't give out that kind of info. Where did you hear this? SDCC?

That sounds nice. I'm imagining the "new concept" sets are small scenes (battlepack-sized) which are combined with other sets to create a larger scene with a full lineup of minifigures.

It was a member on on anther Lego forum who is a designer for Lego

You'll have to be more specific than that before I believe you.

I've had no internet access for 2 weeks so I've only just noticed Capt. Kirks comments.

Really nice that someone in that position took the time out to address us fans. I have my hopes for next years wave of sets but to be honest I'll be pretty happy with whatever we get, much like I have been this year.

Thanks Captain!

Probably similarly to how they did the Jabba's Palace set. It'll mostly be a playset of interior features, possibly with a "roof" or at least a facade that suggests (but doesn't too strongly resemble) the exterior shape. Alternatively, it could be a purely interior playset representing the throne room, or a purely exterior playset representing that scene where the Jedi are escorting the Queen out of the palace and fighting battle droids.

If the Darth Maul duel were to be included, then I imagine the overall set design would resemble the Cloud City set or the Home One set, with multiple scenes joined together but with strong differences in subject matter and appearance. It would be hard to do similarly to Echo Base, since the scenes don't have a strong physical resemblance (whereas Echo Base's scenes in general tended to have the same icy aesthetic).

This idea makes me shivering. Just imagine you would have to wait for 6 waves (3 years) to get your Jabba's palace finished. And you get the snail as the last (they'll cerrtainly not give out the best part as first). Who the heck would be willing to wait that long and have some unfinished set combo around in the meantime??? The ones willing to stick to their LEGO passion that long will certainly feel some relief when it's done but i assume this bunch to be no match to the number of passionate collectors who are willing and able to pay a 100 bucks or more at once.

Collectibles within one wave would make more sense, but then again - why splitting into two 'half-goods' if there's enough people to spend a 100 for something good?

This idea only makes sense if each 'part-set' makes for a fairly good standalone. The way it is with most of the Hoth sets. Combined they are one hell of a diorama - and each is playable and displayable on it's own. I could imagine the same for Tatooine (Luke's speeder, Podracers, Mos Espa market/arena, Mos Eisley cantina, Sandcrawler and whatever else).

However, then there would be nothing new about this scheme - it's the way TLG has been making SW sets from the start.

If there is something collectible in the future - i guess it will be done somehow different. And i hope so, too.
