The 8071 Service Truck is a oldschool cherrypicker on a white longnose truck with four wheels. The doors and the Hood could be opened, to take a look on the blue seats and the not working steering wheel. The 7L steering rack will be actuated by a 20 tooth gear above the rear bumper.

The upperstructure is cotrolled by two 12 tooth bevel gears on the left and right side of the truck. The one on the Driver side controls the lift of the boom and the other the rotation. The rotation of the Turntable is damped by a additional 8 tooth gear on a blue cross axle bolt.

The lifting of the boom is working by a wormgear/24 tooth Transmission and a bent liftarm 6x4. the first and second boom are dont working independent. so it is only one moving curve possible. Fully lifted is the boom ca.40cm high

So far the service truck is a nice model with simple and comfortable solutions that fits good to a medium budget set. There is only one point which is a little bit uncomfortable: In real life the first function that will moved is the outrigger. but to move them on the 8071, you must Grab between turntable and working Basket.

Final conclusion:

for beginners: good looking model for beginners with a good assortment of parts and functions.

for experts: very good Basement for much fun while you modify it.

It is a great set, IMO.

It has nice features, and it is very cute. I like the white color and the small wheels.

This 8071 is waaaaay better than 8289 which had the same functions, but twice more parts. That's an obvious clue of poor efficiency regarding the way 8289 was designed.

This set is very funny, and not very expansive.

I'm very happy : in my reproduction 4 month ago, I choose to put 4 knob gears under turntable. and I was right

I'm going to get this set because of the wheels which I'm having an unnatural consumption of. I hope the rest of the bricks can be used as well because then I could have a good reason for hoarding this set like I have done with the small tractor sets (for rear wheels)

Is the parts inventory known? If not, could you please take pictures of it in the manual? It's a decent set, although I still don't really like the lack of a system in the way the colors are used. White and dark gray are kind of randomly placed everywhere. Contrast that to 8109 where the colors are used much better. But apart from the colors, the IMO too heavy use of stickers, and the weirdly placed controls for the outriggers (those on 8289 were on a much better place), this seems to be a pretty nice set. I like how the white panels are used on the front hood.

Also I like what you did with the model. The knobs for the outriggers are in a much better place now and the rear looks better with the white color. Not sure about your version of the wheel arches, and why did you change the arm?

Well, the Steering Axle have now 10 studs between the pivot points, the original was seven studs wide. And i have added a light ackermann geometry. at the next point i have mooved the steering knob to both flashing lights behind the Cab. The middle knob at the rear end of the truck is now turning the turntable.

I have Changed the arm to could move the second boom separately.

Thank you again for the review. Yesterday I built it myself and the outriggers' knobs and the rear part are the weak points of this set. But still... I like it a lot.

I really like how you solved the tail lights.

Yes the outrigger knobs and the tail are weakpoints of the set. too much dark grey fits not to white

I got this model today and though I was already anticipating it from seeing it first, having it in my hands is even better than I thought. The main model has a lot of functions that are intricately built together in a great design. It reminds me a lot of the 8069 as a great beginners set with much functionality in a small space. Plus the white panels and white liftarms which are quite rare as far as I can tell. Th only other Technic set in recent history I can think of that has white as a primary color is the 8262 Quad Bike.

Well, I bought the set because of the price and that it is in scale with the new flatbed and the cherry picker and the container truck. There are nice features for the price.

However, I do have one question for Lego. How many cherry pickers do we need? There's even a cherry picker on the 8289 fire truck. For that reason I gave it a medium rating cause I think Lego can do better than a new "cherry picker of the year."
