alanboar HK Posted July 4, 2011 (edited) Lego MOC - Shaolin Monastery The Shaolin Monastery or Shaolin Temple is a Chan Buddhist temple at Song Shan near Zhengzhou City Henan Province in Dengfeng, China. It is led by Venerable abbot Shi Yangxin. Founded in the 5th century, the monastery is long famous for its association with Chinese martial arts and particularly with Shaolin Kung Fu, and it is the Mahayana Buddhist monastery perhaps best known to the Western world. The Shaolin Monastery and its famed Pagoda Forest were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010 as part of the "Historic Monuments of Dengfeng. Creator Comment : It is my new share architecture creation, ~ Shaolin Monastery ~ I created it according to the real temple at Song Shan, Zhengzhou City Henan Province in Dengfeng, China. And I placed some my DIY minifigs at the scene for this creation, you can find : Monks, 18 bronze men and Buddhist abbot. It used ~5000 pieces to build-up the temple. To enhance the creation, I added the Chinese style Gateway, Rock Lion and the well. Reference : http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%B0%91%E6%9E%97%E5%AF%BA http://www.shaolin.org.cn/ It is the chance to expose the mystery of Shaolin Temple. It is the lego architecture simulation. The real Shaolin Temple is located at Song Shan near Zhengzhou City Henan Province in Dengfeng, China. It is the travel spot in Henan Province. It is the hard-life for the Chinese monk. They need carry water from the well everyday morning. Quincuncial piles for monks training It is the gateway which I try to simulate. Wow! My other favourite DIY minifigs : Chun Li 18 Shaolin bronze men!!. They are all the Kungfu master. It was created as a form of 'qualification exam' for Shaolin disciples on their kungfu skills before being allowed to leave Shaolin. It was said to prevent any tarnishing of reputation on Shaolin and to make sure Shaolin disciples had a high skill in kungfu. The 18 Shaolin bronze men also became a formation used for Shaolin disciples to exchange their kungfu skills. Anyone who was able to break the formation was said to have master the kungfu skills. Besides being able to break the 18 Shaolin bronze men formation, becoming one of the "18 bronze men" was also the goal of many Shaolin disciple. To build up with other scene. The big LOGO of temple! I used some special parts to build up the roof, can you guess it? more DIY : Buddhist abbot Do Buddhist abbot want to self-Meditation ? Yes , meditation. The monks training is starting! The snapshot of the shaolin temple. ########### It is the show time of the funny movie "God of Cookery" ( Stephen Chow ) ########### Reference : Eighteen Brassmen of Shaolin Monastery Wa wa waa...... It had the chance to show at the Hong Kong Taikoo Lego exhibition 2011. I appreciate greatly to our Legend Brick member , special for Arzlan and AnthonyLau and other AFOL for this event. WhiteFang Posted July 4, 2011 Outstanding piece of oriental creation. Exactly like the (shi ba tong ren). So nice and it's great to see Asian LEGO MOCs like this, being shared here, in Eurobricks. Thank you Alan. The Shaolin (Stephen Chow) is awesome! I thought it was (shi sheng) God of Cookery, where he acts together with Karen Mok?

Wout Posted July 4, 2011 I know not very much of buddhist temples or Stephen Chow, but this is a very great moc with a lovely landscape. Why have the brass monks kicked that other fig in some later pics. Did he said they were made of rust?

Hoboman Posted July 4, 2011 The whole thing is very impressive. But the element use I liked best was the Dragon arms on the roof. I also liked the waterfall in the back. But the whole thing is great word for sure.
Brickdoctor Posted July 4, 2011 Incredible work here! The old fences in the windows and the stonework are very nice, but my favorite part has got to be the dragon arms on the roof. Those are just perfect.

Did he said they were made of rust? Well , it is related to the scene of Stephen Chow's "God of Cookery" He want to escape from the temple but he got catch by the brass monks ..wahahah This is outstanding! AL those details, it's great in a lot of ways! Funny how you put the monks one each other. Further a like your well and training-area! yes ...actually, I really found Quincuncial Piles in the real As past , I have the idea to place the monk minifig to show the "Two-finger meditation" Reference : http://fan.co.91.com/community/other/miraculous-shaolin-kungfu,1.shtml

robuko Posted July 5, 2011 I was lucky enough to see this at Taikoo (Thanks Andy, William and Wilfred!). It was amazing, and I am even more impressed now that I understand how accurate it is. Great build
alanboar HK Posted July 5, 2011 To Daniel's Dad Icon & Brick doctor : Yes , bingo, it is dragon arms . During initial stage, I used all green plates to build up the corner, but it seems common and no focus point. Hence, I try mix with other parts , at last, I try to use total 6 x Green Dragon Arm to present the roof corner, and it looks special now. I was lucky enough to see this at Taikoo (Thanks Andy, William and Wilfred!). It was amazing, and I am even more impressed now that I understand how accurate it is. Great build It is my unluck that I do not meet you at the event or last meeting with you and HK AFOL~ Hope we can join together for any coming event in the future.
