dragonk1ng Posted June 5, 2011 (edited) Hey guys. I am working on a replica of the HMS Beagle. I am aware that there is another version floating around somewhere... Anyway, I love ecology and evolution, so the HMS Beagle means a great deal to me. Here is a teaser showing the Digital Designer version. The physical version has progressed also, but I will upload the pics once I figure out how to use my Brickshelf account. Until then! Admiral Croissant Posted June 5, 2011 I don't really understand the red lines in the hull, but apart from that I think it looks promising. The shape and colourscheme are good. Are you making this exactly on scale? Anyway, good luck! I'm looking forward to more pictures.
Captain Becker Posted June 5, 2011 Great looking LDD ship alrady. I would like to get more pictures about this if possible, and LXF file would be also very welcome. I would love to take a closer look about this ship. About the other WIP HMS Beagle, thegreenavenger had the project like this also, but havent seen him to post in ages, so he is in Dark ages a presume. I wait for those pictures and updates, keep it up. Captain Becker
dragonk1ng Posted June 11, 2011 (edited) Ahoy mateys! Here was my progress on the hull: And here is the LXF file, as requested: HMS Darwin hull.zip The hull is actually all brown; I was using the red lines for visual guide. It is built of 1x3, 1x2, and 2x6 plates, all bought from the pick-a-brick section at the LEGO Store throughout the year. The ship is 75% of minifig scale and is based on the blueprints of the Anatomy of the Ship series. The model is now in about the same phase as the LDD version. I will post more photos! :D Question: Are there such things as double lids for gun ports? Because that is what the book says... Admiral Croissant Posted June 11, 2011 (edited) Question: Are there such things as double lids for gun ports? Because that is what the book says... Well not like one gunport outside and one on the inside (as far as I know), but the Beagle could have had the same gunports as USS Constitution: EDIT: Yes, when you take a close look at the front of your book, you'll see the same gunports (they only don't have a hole in the middle). Your hull looks promising. My only nitpick is that the place where the rudder will be attached, seems a little too sharp-edged. I don't know how to change that, but maybe cb4's ship can help you. And finally, your pictures are way too large. Please resize them or we'll have to remove them. Our max. size is 800x600 pixles. Here and here are tutorials for resizing if you need them. Good luck on your ship! Edited June 11, 2011 by Admiral Croissant
dragonk1ng Posted June 11, 2011 Thanks for the info, Admiral Croissant! I will incorporate the double lids in my ship. And I have resized the images.
