Key Features of a Soldier's Sea Port

Recommended Posts

Hello there!

I'm currently trying to get some inspiration as well as some facts on my next build.

I'm attempting to come up with a soldier's sea port of some kind.

Yep, its my first one and unfortunately, i'm not very familiar with details about such buildings.

So to put it simply:

What do you think should one find on a Soldier's Sea Port

( vaguely from the 14th-18th century)

You are welcome to post example pictures!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!

Well, obviously there would be at least one place to dock a ship. It would probably have a few market stalls also so the sailors could buy things, perhaps a few cannons around the edges to defend the port from pirates, and possibly extra sleeping areas for the visiting sailors (or perhaps they would just sleep on the ship).

Well, here's a list of what I know of some military ports of that time:

-sleepin' area for the garrison

-food store

-designated area for the officers

-small dockyard facility to help vessels making smaller repairs

-weapons depot

-semaphor and/or signal flag utilities

-shore battery

-oven for hot round shots

-designated quarantine area for containing desease

-parade ground

-smithery (and/or weaponsmithery)

-carpentry

Well I personally have always imagined that a proper sea fortress should look like the one Guybrush lands next to just after the start of Curse of the Monkey Island... :pir-tongue: But then again, that's just a big giant wall of stone, so I guess it's not of much help anyway.

Thank you very much, guys!

You've given me some food for thought. I'll see which of the listed thinks i'll manage to include in my "port". Probably, available parts and space are going to be my main enemies :D

One More thing that popped up in my mind:

What source of fresh water do Seaports have?

One More thing that popped up in my mind:

What source of fresh water do Seaports have?

I think that the builders of the seaports would probably find a spring of freshwater or a river first.

"If only the builders of Jamestown had known this." :pirate_sad2:

I think his trying to say at: If legoheads sea port is on the desert island and there is no river (Or anything else fresh water source), then the water must brought somewhere else.

This is what i would Put into a Port:

-A Dock or Dockyard for a larger ship.

-A little Stone wall for Boxes barrels anchors wich is next to the Docks.

-Shore Defences.

-maybe a Small tower wich represents a Guard tower that looks over the port.

-a Gunsmith/weaponsmith

-maybe a Stall for horses ?

-some sort of Captains/Officers tower.

- A crane would be nice.

-maybe this port is connected with a city, i would put a marketplace

-maybe a taxoffice or Royal treasury( where you can show how much lego coins and valuables you have :pir-sweet:)

- At least ONE drunken sailor/soldier

- well for the previous option you could make a Inn where soldiers can relax.

- ** 18+ only** maybe a corner/place/house where Prostitutes live....

This should look like a port where Real Sailors come :p

well i hope you can do something with those options !!

Good luck and ill see what you created !!
