Floor-Layout at ZueriHB's

Wow, this is one massive railroad. I can't help but worry about those glorious trains being trampled by guests or enslaved quadrupeds(dogs/cats). I can't imagine how hard it is to maintain it.

I now understand why I couldn't work out the layout from your videos :-) It's quite complicated, I really like it, particularly the broad curves in the dinning room. It seems your girlfriend has unreasonably limited you to only half the apartment though, after all who doesn't want a train to play with while cooking or bathing or in bed

What, one and a half year since I updated this thread? Ok, had a little dark age (Curse you Nintendo!) but here I am to make a triumphant return!

You may have ignored my other recent posts with photographs featuring my current layout in my new home, but here I present to you: THE MASTER PLAN!

I'm open for all kinds of ideas, for the sea port (Designated 'Hafen' in THE MASTER PLAN= or the mines.

Hey, looks great! I especially like those large storage bricks doubling as what must be a station.

This is a great use of floorspace! I particularly like the 4559s being so well utilized. And double double crossover tracks side by side? Incredible!

Actually, I don't have any first hand experience with those, but I think I read that you can't set both tracks to run straight through? Does having two side by side like that negate any problems like that?

Thanks you all.

@Doom2099: Maybe I overdid it a little with my 4559s, but I just love this train!

And I mostly disable one half of the double crossover to run trains in parallel, or I just use 'em to get the trains back on the correct track.

Thanks for replying Zueri! I always thought the 4559 is underrated, so it's great to see it getting its full due!

Was modifying the double switchtrack difficult to make both trains go straight?

I went the easy route and taped the moving part down.

If you'd like, I can post more pics of my wasps.

That is a great layout, with interesting geometries and a lot going on. It does not look like the typical rectangular lego train layout. Also great that the trains can disappear from view.

There are some ideas in RailBricks #9 for the double crossover.

Very nice. I haven't had track on the floor since...I think 6 years ago or so. All on tables here...which makes for a different experience. 512 straights=into the intermediate level of lego layout building :). I have a few more than that in my layout, but not that much more.

So tape is enough to make the double crossover allow both trains to run straight through? If so, that's good to know!

Yes please, more pics would be great.

@James: Do it! It's totally worth it!

Also I have now way more than 1000 straights.

@Zephyr: I don't particulary like those stiff Layouts used by others, no wide curves, no flexibilty, just straight, 90° turns and no idea of how to operate a railway!

@Doom: Only have one picture for you this time, but it should be worth it!

Now in no particular order:

Great! I also really like that you've got yellow 1x2 tiles under your banked curve. A part of me is really regretting skipping out on this set all those years ago!
