Modular Sets

I would love to see a post office or a bank even a modular police station or hospital would be ok.

Bank With working locking vault door using tecnic pieces or something that would be awsome.

I really dont like the theather idea we have one of those in the Town Plan set.

This might be a little off topic.... (had trouble finding another open thread for my suggestion).

Maybe when LEGO is done with the Town modular building sets which tie into the other sets like Green Grocer and Grand Emporium, I'd love for TLG to release modular building sets in the style of Venice, Italy architecture. Meaning every year, TLG would release a new set of a Venice styled building designed to connect with each other. Highly-detailed and would be done as nicely as Grand Emporium or Diagon Alley. Eventually, collectors would be able to recreate a Venice like city built of Lego brinks. Just imagine.... canals, boats, bridges and historic churches & buildings all designed to look like Venice, Italy.

I have to agree here on a few things.

1.) Full Interiors.

I have to say that I was extremely happy with the Grand Emporium as far as the amount of detail goes on the out side appearance and the chandelier was a nice touch. But I was disappointing at the LACK OF INTERIOR. Three floors and two of them have just a couple of Nick Knacks in them. and with all the SNOT pieces out side I would have expected more inside to give it a well store room floor look.

2.) Police Station

I really feel that since you have the Fire Brigade it would only be natural to have a Police Station. I also purchased this and LOVE the detail in this one as apposed to the Grand Emporium. (See point 1) The Current Police Station although nice it just doesn't fit in with the modular buildings that I have because of how open it is. This is why I'm working on a Modular Police Station to Make it work better but a Official Police Station would be a lot better and I could use the pieces on other projects I have in mind.

3.) HOSPITAL

It has been years since I've seen a decent hospital. Point of fact the last one that I actually like came out in the early 90's I believe. Lego has always been a little lax when it comes to this very important and essential building. Since we are talking about AFOL's here I think most would agree that if you have a Police Station and a Fire Brigade a hospital would be a very fitting and nice Edition to any Modular City.

4.)Post office

I really feel that the Post Office is a building that I don't think has been given the credit it really deserves. I mean after all with out it how are our MiniFigs going to get there bills? not all of them have cell phones and internet access But seriously this would be a great edition to my town and I've already seen a few MOCs that look fantastic and fit right in with all the other building.

5.) Bank

Lego has been doing little banks and bank like buildings for a long time it would be nice to see them give a bank a Victorian or Gothic makeover to see it updated from a set basically focusing around the vehicle to the building. also this would be a great time to produce more MONEY, green cash bricks and gold coins, who knows even introduce a NEW money brick exclusive to just this set, sounds like a winner to me.

6.) Casino

Now I know this will most likely NEVER go through but a Casino would be interesting and I think would be very interesting to see given the fact that the building can be very plain with some great facades, and then focus most of the detail on the inside of the casino. Such as but not limited to; Poker tables, Craps, Slots, Roulette. This also would be a great opportunity to introduce some new Casino worker minifigs or bring back an old one.

7.) Printed- NOT STICKERED

I have never, EVER, been one to use stickers because they eventually all fall off, get nasty and render useless. Plus I have ADHD and sometimes when I'm not concentrating on it my hands get shaky and then the sticker ends up all crooked and then it bugs me to DEATH! Printed design will always come out as the better and more desirable piece.

8.) Theater

I'm not sure if Lego has really put a lot of effort into one except for there 50 year anniversary set which was a great hit as far as I can tell. Taking that same basic concept and making it into a Full fledged Theater, Classic Theater or Modern would be fantastic! they all ready have the pieces and most of the design work done why not capitalize on it a little bit more?

9.) Town Hall

This is another one that they've not put a lot of effort into until the 50 year set. I think it would be very fitting because they can use all the classic Roman column pieces and make something that would be a great seller. Like I said in point 8 there they have the pieces already developed and most of the design is done, so why not a Great Town Hall... HEY! That's what they could call it!!!

Ok, I've come to a decision, I'm placing my money on a post office, if the theory about the modular sets is true then my reckoning is that the clues seem to be next to the lamp post and a minifig is interacting with it and it is stand alone from the actual building on the sidewalk which on GE is the post box. However a post office would be a bit small for a modular building, to compensate for this I'm guessing there might be an alleyway for the old mail van to park, the first floor may be a sorting office of some sorts and top floor could be a staff room? This is just a guess-timation so we will have to wait and see what it is but if this is it then I'm definately getting one. Another thing, I thought there would have been a post office with the van as one set but there wasn't...

Possible clues for future modular sets, (kind of like Final Destination )

Police station, police officer/speed camera or parking meter/traffic warden

Hospital, idk an accident or something? minifig running into a lampost?

Bank, atm machine/money

Cinema, tv/actor/celeb

etc.

I would like to see any one of those list

1. Post Office (which suppose start production which was told last year during Grand Emporium but never did) I was kind of disppoint with that()

2. Cinema/Theatre

4. Police Station

Second, I thought what about Department store that has clothing, foods, check lane, toys, sporting goods, tv, movies, video games, which from A to Z and could be design of two floors. OR can build mall with everything in it, has department stores, post office, cinema/theatre, bank, food services, entertainment, lego store, etc.

Here's a building I put together a few years back... a Victorian Gazebo made of 105 parts. Nothing too difficult, and lots of very desireable parts... white curved (very rare right now) and straight railing fences, fancy Belville arches... and lots of inside and outside 45 degre corner blue slopes.

I bet this one would be a parting out dream for Bricklink sellers... with all the desireable parts.

And this is just the structure... you could add a few minifig musicians, some minifigs dancing, some white lamp posts and some greenery.

That would be fantastic. Your example would have plenty of very useful parts for MOCing, and if perhaps dark blue or another rare colour was used in place of regular blue, then it would be perfect: rare parts in common colours + common parts in rare colours are in my opinion a perfect combination.

The only problem I see with such a set is that the designers would load it too much with tiny details and minifigs and it would quickly "degenerate" into the usual overpriced exclusive like the "winter sets" instead of remaining feasible for the retail shops, but that is just my personal preference.

Out of the 105 parts in this model, 74 are slopes.

The slopes in this Gazebo are:

32 2x2 outside corners

16 2x2 inside corners

6 1x2 half pyramid peaks

4 1x2 double/inverted peaks (gable connectors)

8 2x4 slopes

8 2x2 slopes

It's almost an entire parts pack in just slopes alone... in rare colors it would be nice because it contains many of the rarer shaped 45 degree slopes in larger quantities than would usually be found... a great way for some creative MOC building as you mentioned!

Actually I think this is a very nice idea, and a very nice MOC. There are plenty of structures which could be a mini-modular.. however I guess the product design / development time, marketing etc may not be significantly different for a Mini-modular versus a full size regular (unless they designed a mini-series in one go).

A Modular Bandstand (based upon your beatiful example) would be great. Other ideas could be a small park clock tower; a small park Avery (bird?)... a fountain (of youth) taking some of the great sculpture designs from the recent D2C contest (Pharoahs). A minature golf / crazy golf set... (could be done as an advent calendar). Sigh... too many creative ideas popping into my head and I need to focus on (paying) work.

Now that sounds like a nice idea. Maybe miniature models of all the big sets released that year, and a PAB wall, and shelves covered in sets. Hopefully they don't replicate the horrible crowds at the real store around here. It'd be nice for minifigs, but might bring back bad memories.

Floor above? but then where would the LEGO Sculptures go? Also what would go in the basement where the storeroom is?

Ok,ok, I live near the Mall of America store which is NOT a typical design (from what I see of the pictures online of the other stores). The MoA store doesn't really have it's own roof and has an elevator into the malls basement which has their stockroom in it.

A LEGO store set could be neat if done correctly, but it might be hard to translate the details into something buildable by kids (or even affordable by kids).

Here are my ideas/suggestions:

1. Revisit the cafe concept. Cafe Corner was great but it lacked interior and many of us missed out on the first modular building. I would love to see LEGO revisit the cafe/restaurant idea, this time with interior - e.g. 1st floor "bar" area (strictly non-alcoholic of course ) plus kitchen, 2nd floor dinning area, 3rd floor/roof top "root beer" garden.

2. A car showroom/garage modular. This will have to be a full 32x32 building like Fire Brigade. 2/3 of first floor could be a car showroom and 1/3 could be devoted to a ramp or elevator that takes you up to 2nd floor garage/workshop where cars are being repaired.

3. Not so much a suggestion for type of building but a suggestion to add more variation to architectural styles. In a real city/town, you'll often see a mix of different style of building based on when they are constructed. All the modular buildings thus far have a late 19th/early 20th century look and feel, which are great. But I'm hoping maybe LEGO will add some more diverse style to the future modular buildings. How about a mid century modern bank building? Cape cod style post office? Art deco book store?

As one of the people who started with the Cafe Corner, I have to disagree... at least for now. Maybe after ten years of modular buildings they can revisit old ones as a 'commemorative' thing, but the range is too new and there are too many obvious building options not yet covered to start doing repeats.

Maybe if they had a building with a book store on the ground floor and a cafe on the first floor, this would work, and would give people a properly furnished cafe without having two cafe buildings.

I think the level of detail is dependent on good design, not necessarily type of building or style of architecture. You can make a stair with 10 simple 4x2 bricks or 40 smaller pieces... it's up to the designer to think creatively.

Although this is now a moot point, referring to the mailbox in GE leading into the next modular being a post office; which was obviously not the case. Anyone remember this red boxes in the GG? They weren't storage lockers. Plus, the Pet Shop ruined the theory of clues anyways, I'd say.

I'd like to have a Lego store. What would be better in a Lego town, than a Lego store! They could take cues from the MOCs here, vie seen some very detailed ones. Can't remember who it was, but they even had the black shirt, yellow aproned employees and used 1x1 technic pieces coupled with trans clear rounds for the PaB wall, it was fantastic.

Also, I'd like to see 3 buildings in one set of live/work units. Below, would be retail, such as a candy store, little restaurant, office, etc. Then a little studio apartment above. But, everything Lego has released thus far I have ordered immediately and will continue to do so. I love the buildings and the builds are always(although sometimes repeative)fun. And I will continue to buy what they release as long as it lives up to the standards of it's predecessors.

We actually got 2 banks in 2011, Gringott's in 10217, and of course, 3661. Therefore, I doubt there will be another bank for the next few years.

There has been a small leak of Lego Exclusive sets for 2012, including 10223 Kingdom's Joust (which is to be like MMV 10193), but most exciting of all, next year's modular building, 10224 Town Hall - discussion topic can be found here.

I think a hospital would be too big to capture in a modular building. However, you could do a GP's surgery pretty well. Waiting room on the ground floor, doctor's office on the first floor, records room on the 2nd floor. You could have fun with the details too. Some mini-figure holding a bucket with a piece designed to resemble vomit inside! Haha. I suppose if the whole double building was taken up by the hospital, like the fire station, then it could be big enough.

A schoolhouse would be good too. I can't recall there being many (any?) Lego school sets. A blackboard would be a nice detail. The headmaster/mistress could await on the top floor for naughty children to be sent to them,

I like the idea of a city hall. You could have people getting married on the ground floor, a courtroom on the second floor, and the Mayor's office on the top floor.

Post office would be interesting. Garage with a vehicle for sure. Sorting room.

Police station would be nice to see, just to have all the emergency services, but I'm not sure if it'll happen. There are already a lot of police station sets.

I'd love to see a library or a bookstore, filled with bookshelves and books! The way I imagine it is something of a hollowed out building with massive bookshelves up the sides and ladders to get to higher levels, with some other features up the walls as well to keep it interesting. I'm thinking of the library from Beauty and the Beast.

A theatre would be good too, as has been suggested.

I love the idea of a modular bookshop, a dusty old second hand bookshop with an eccentric owner, hopefully 16 wide.

I am also looking forward to a modular town hall a more community building for the modular setup would be a welcome change from businesses and residential buildings.
