In the tiny town of Alabatha, Delaware, the Mayor of the town holds a meeting.

img_0209.jpg

"Thank you all for coming." he says.

img_0207.jpg

The townspeople look uneasy, they knew what this meeting was going to be about. It was the reason most of the town had packed up and left.

img_0209.jpg

"A few hours ago, I was informed by the governors office that our local Congressman, as well as a HUAC investigator will be coming to town to investigate allegations of communist spies."

The townsfolk had displeased and unhappy looks on their faces.

"The HUAC Investigator is coming to town to conduct investigations, and aid the police forces. They should arrive tomorrow."

The townsfolk were pleased, at least this would be resolved quickly.

"Look to your left." the mayor said.

The townspeople did.

"Look to your right." The mayor said.

The townspeople did.

"Odds are, you may have just stared at a commie."

The townsfolk frowned, and dispersed to get some sleep.

--------------------------------------------------------

It is the Year 1952. Although the Second World War against Germany and the other Axis Powers has been won, a new enemy in the world has risen. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, or the Soviet Union, has become a major threat to the United States of America, and her allies. In an effort to weed out the communist threat to America, the House Un-American Activities Committee, or HUAC, has launched countless trials against movie stars, politicians, and other various figures in the United States. Congressman Richard Nixon, or “The Red Hunter”, has become the so-called leader of HUAC.

In the tiny town of Alabatha, Delaware, the newly created Central Intelligence Agency has tracked a tiny group of communist spies, and dispatched a HUAC Investigator, as well as the local congressman; to help the townsfolk and local police forces pick out the spy or, potentially, spies.

However, this is a daunting task, as the spies from the Soviet Union are very good at their jobs, and will be quite difficult to capture.

I am looking for a total of 18 players. There may be more players added as the game progresses, so please, if you don't make it, don't feel discouraged.

Rules:

(Borrowed partly from Dragonator’s Mystery Manor)

1. There are 18 participants. If you commit to the game you are committing to contributing to the story and sticking with it to the end. I am trusting you all not to drop out halfway through, as that is never any fun.

2. You must search for clues. This means that an action must be specified. For example, you wish to search a room for hidden objects. The following is an example of how not to go about this:

"I wish to look for suspicious or hidden objects in this room".

Instead, you must be able to specify what you want to do. For example:

"I would like to open the drawers of the cabinet."

It is not required for you to specify exactly what you are doing and what you are looking for, but a generalized statement will not find you anything. Act like a detective and you will be fine.

3. This game is meant to be fun, so enjoy yourselves!

4. Please be patient with me between chapters, I will try to put up the chapter topics as quickly as possible, but, this might not be so all the time.

5. Please try to avoid editing your posts, as it can lead to suspicion against you. Just consider what you want to say before you say it, and you'll be fine.

6. Please remember that this is the early 1950’s. No iPods, digital cameras, cell phones, printers, computers, fax machines, or otherwise. No events past the current date either, or else people will view you as insane.

7. I won’t keep you in a certain room if you don’t want me too. You’ll always have the option of backtracking or researching the same place.

8. The host is usually always right. If you think I’ve made an error, then please discuss this in the discussion thread or feel free to PM me.

9. Failure to follow these rules will result in a warning. A second failure will result in the death of your character.

10. Remember that although a chapter has ended, that doesn’t mean that the day has concluded, and night actions can be used.

10b. There are also chapter actions. Those of you with chapter actions have the ability to use them at the end of each chapter.

11. No Metagaming please. Also, don’t base suspicions on how the person looks.

Rules may be added or deleted as the game goes on based on game play.

12. This is the 1950’s, the middle of the Cold War. You’re under constant worry of potential nuclear Armageddon, so act like it. The Communists are your enemies in this game, don’t forget that. Also, anytime historical facts from the 1950’s are brought in is a big plus.

Once again, I'm looking for 18 players. If you'd like to play, then please state past Mafia/Mystery involvements, as well as any knowledge you have with the Cold War and or the 1950's.

I'm very interested in playing. :sweet:

I've studied up on the Cold War and the 50s in general before. (I've also roleplayed on other forums in this setting) I've read most of the mafia/mystery stuff on this forum, have played the PoP and Halloween massacres, Dystopia, Hogwarts, and Eurodina mafias.

This seems like a fusion of mystery and mafia, what with the night and chapter actions.

This looks great!

I've been involved in Dystopia, the POP mess, and most recently Eurodina. I've fully watched Imperial Scouts mafia, and sene bits and pieces of others.

Hmm... I'll sign up. Looks like a lot of fun for both spectators and players.

Let's see,

Died in prohibition, Won POP massacre, Died in VOTBD, and Died just recently in Eurodina, and have played another one on another site.

As for what I know, well I am currently writing a research paper on the red scare and the SALT I treaty so I do know a little bit. I also have some knowledge on the war(my grandfather fought in it.) And um I play black ops. (Not really an information source but...)

I'm willing to give it a go if you'll have me. I've only played VOTBD but I survived until the last night. As for knowledge, I've read books and watched movies about that era. Also took a history class that included that era in college. Thanks for your consideration.

Count me as interested.

I've played in Shadows' PoP and VOTBD killfests and am currently involved in Eurodina. I followed Red Moon religiously (until it unceremoniously went on hiatus).

As for Red Scare era role playing, I've played plenty of Paranoia during my pen and paper RPG days. Nothing like trying to find the Red Commie Bastards amongst your own group (while convincing them you're not one  ).

Another historical game by you? I loved playing in Prohibition with you as the host and would love to be in another.

I have played in Prohibition and Eurodina. I have no other games so I will be free. I have plenty of time on my hand currently so there will be no issues with that.

Being a history buff I so have a good idea what I'm talking about. My Cold War knowledge it's above basic. I need to fill in the gaps and brush up a bit, which I plan on doing within the upcoming days.

I'd love to play!

I'm definitely interested. I've researched the Cold War as a part of a few research papers. I'm also a history buff.

My past Mafia Experience is:

Prince of Persia Massacre (Lost, lasted for a while)

Village of the Bloody Damned (Won, only survivor)

Eurodina (Still playing)

Of course I'm keen for a spot in this, it has been a while sine we've had a mystery game. Although technically there is one still running.

I've played in a couple of games on EB, you know, this and that. I've also played in a live horror RPG set in 1954 involving nuclear bomb testing at Bikini Atoll, flying tentacle creatures and several encounters with a lad called Sawyer. Not sure if that qualifies me or not, but it was one hell of a nightmarish game, I can tell you!

I'd like to play. Mystery games are always fun to participate in, and I feel I have more of a chance to survive and actually contribute to the success of my character than in Mafia games.

I've played in three mystery games on EB before (Red Moon, MOTEE, and Mafstraw), as well as five or six mafia games. I've also hosted one, so I feel I have a grasp on the game mechanics. default_blink.gif

As for 1950's/ Red Scare, I'd say I know enough. I haven't really studied it thoroughly, but have dabbled in it before.

I'd like to sign up for sure. I've played in a few Mafias (the more recent games/characters are in my sig) and I played, well, I'm still playing technically, in the Red Moon Mystery. That had Red in the title too, it's like it's meant to be.

I would love to join too! I don't have Mystery experience here, I only played Mafia games (Prince of Persia, Village of the Bloody Damned and Eurodina) but I did read Red Moon in order to educate myself! :classic:

Being born in a country on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain, I do have some first hand experience of communism, and the cold war. So I know my way around the eastern (mega)bloc!

You're going to be overloaded with applicants, but I'm interested. I've never done a mystery before, but I've done mafias here and elsewhere.

As for the 1950's, I love Tricky Dick and the way his jowls shake when he speaks. I know there were communists under every unturned stone, and America put every penny into smoking them out, here and abroad. A crazy senator Joseph McCarthy helped destroy careers, and J. Edgar Hoover spied on people while secretly wearing women's clothing or something inappropriate for the era.

The Reds were anti-God, anti-American, anti-us! There was nothing else we could do, we had to find them, whatever the cost. For the sake of freedom!

I would like to play. (I'm sorry for mistaking this for a mafia game. Won't happen again )

I am playing in Eurodina mafia game, and read beginning and end of all mafia game days before Noir, since day 6 of Noir I read all mafia games almost entirely. I read whole red moon, but never played a mystery game. I have good knowledge of Cold War Era, I have history as major subject in school and Cold war is one of my favourite topics.

I would be really happy to be in the game.

I would like to play. I have taken part in three mafia games on Eurobricks and played one on The Brick Hope. I have also read all of the past games. I have a good solid knowledge of that time frame and I will contribute towards the game daily.

I hope you choose me, this looks like a good game

I'll keep this open for a few more days, and then I'll close the sign ups.

I encourage people to still join, despite the fact that we've reached the 18 players mark.

I wouldn't mind joining in. It would be my first mystery game, but I watch Red Moon closely. I've played in several Mafia Games, and have even won one on the side of the town, quite a feat.

I have very little Cold War/1950's knowledge (with the exception of the eras songs, thanks to the Fallout 3 soundtrack), so I wouldn't mind if I were one of the characters to come in later.

I would like to throw my name into the hat. I've played all recent mafia games starting with dystopia, then hogwarts, and now Eurdonia. So I have an idea on how these games work  , I haven't played a mystery game yet though, I haven't read one through, but I've read a chapter or two from red moon and others. As for knowledge about the cold war, well I know what it's about and such, but the only time I've actually seen something remotely close to it was Indiana Jones IV, so, um, yeah.
