[KEY TOPIC] Official Lego sets made in LDraw

Recommended Posts

I own next to none of the sets I built here, although I certainly wish that I did.

The render that I always remembered since I first saw it is this one. It's just awesome :classic:

That is ridiculously awesome. *oh3*

Yeah, the advancement in compute generated graphics is just awesome these day. But I'm think about photographs and if a rendered image can be made so it is ABSOLUTELY impossible to distinguish from a photo. I mean, if you zoom in on a photo you can always spot small blemishes (color deviations in bricks, dust speckles, finger prints etc). So, I'm basically asking for cases where someone would enter a render in a MOC contest, and it would be completely and utterly impossible to spot that it's a render. Has such renders ever been made?

Would you be able to tell, if you didn't know it was fake?

9748 - Droid Development Kit - Model B - R2-D2 (Mindstorms/Star Wars)

R2-D2 DDK.mpd

Errors: Other than the hoses and flexible axles being a bit wonky, no errors.

Jedi Knight Droid DDK.mpd

Errors: The homemade links that open and close the jaws aren't quite in the right position, but other than that, it's golden.

Great googily-moogily! We need to get that guy in here to teach us how to do that. It looks fantastic.

8089 - Hoth Wampa Cave (Star Wars)

hoth_wampa_cave.png

Hoth Wampa Cave.mpd

Errors:

Wampa uses unofficial parts

No Stickered Parts

Incorrect Helmet and goggles on Luke Skywalker

Incorrect Head Print on the Rebel Pilot

Many thanks to C3POwen, who provided the unofficial parts for the Wampa. The links to these .DAT files can be found in this quote

87562p01.dat - Wampa Body

87564p01.dat - Wampa Arm Right

87565p01.dat - Wampa Arm Left

These parts can be placed into the following folder to avoid mixing them up with the official library: C:\Program Files\LDraw\Unofficial\Parts (assuming that LDraw is installed at "C:\Program Files\LDraw" - for 64-bit Windows it's "C:\Program Files (x86)\LDraw").

The big error is obviously the lack of an actual Wampa. Poor Chewbacca is standing in for it. :hmpf_bad:

You could try a brick build solution.

For example here there are custom solution for Jabba and a tauntaun.

6940 Alien Moon Stalker ( Space - Classic )

No errors. This was the first Lego set I ever received. I was 8 at the time and loved putting it together, destroying it, then rebuilding. I still have most of the pieces.

Making technic models in bricksmith is challenging to say the least, however..

Errors: The wheels are not yet officially available as a complete part, so some tinkering was necessary (and that shows)

456 / 661 - Spirit of St Louis - System

spirit_of_st_louis.png

Spirit of St Louis.ldr

Errors: Missing Stickers

This set holds a special place in my heart, as it was the first set I ever owned. I know I said I would only work on Star Wars, but I wanted a nice, simple set that I could play around in LPub.

5541 Blue Fury (Model B) [Model Team, 1995]

5541%20Blue%20Fury%20%28Model%20B%29.png

MPD file

Errors:

- Missing stickers

- One of the hinges that attaches the steering rack doesn't quite join, due to the lack of give that real parts normally have.

This render takes advantage of HDRI lighting (which also creates the reflections on the floor and chrome parts), radiosity and slight focal blur.

I've made a (giant) brick-built Wampa for the Hoth Wampa Cave above. Let me know if you like it. I'm not certain I do.

Brick-built solutions can go two ways, and I personally feel that the wampa is not as strong as the Jabba you used in "4480 Jabba's Palace".

However, about a year ago I exported the body parts for the wampa from LDD (as a lot of LDraw parts are created like this) but didn't do anything with them. I thought I'd tidy them up a bit (fix their position and add a little colour) in case you wanted to use them in your render. Of course, they're not official parts, and I don't plan on submitting them to the LDraw Parts Tracker as they need a lot of work done to them, but for rendering purposes, you're more than welcome to use them.

I also put all of the parts together in an LDR file, along with the Technic pins to attach the arms and croissants for horns (as the tauntaun horns don't yet exist in either LDraw or LDD):

I just opened your file and could not find the error you are referring too.

The steering works in the animation console of SR3D,which requires all the relevant parts to be connected probably.

The actual parts used for steering are joined up, but there are two hinges that are used to attach the steering rack to the chassis, and the one further back won't clip in like it should:
