A micro ISD

Recommended Posts

Hi !

I would like to build a micro ISD. For the wings :

- it must have studs outside.

- the hypotenuse of the wing may be in the middle or on the side. It makes no difference to me.

Here is Hidaka's ISD : http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=63846

It is quite similar to what I would like to do.

The main (and probable the only) problem I experience it to join the 4 wings. :/

How do you think Hidaka managed to do this ?

Did he use rubbers ?

Thanks for your help !

i would build it with 1x2 plate with hinge on side and those little hinge bars with a stud on the end and attach the wings with a 1x1 brick with studs on sides.

I would have used illegal connections; see my Interdictor:

Clips will work wonders here. :classic:

Yeah a bit of illegal connections using the clips just like brickdoctor's, I have done such unorthodox techniques as well and it gets the job done.

As I'm a purist, I don't like to use illegal builds (I don't have use it yet in any MOC).

I will try to find a way to build it only with legal builds.

So. I worked several hours on my micro ISD, and I reached this conclusion : it is impossible to build it with 4 wings without using illegal builds.

Or maybe it is possible, but I'm not skilled enough. :sceptic:

So, I built it in a very simple way.

Sure, my mini ISD is not impressive. O_o

But IMO, the shape is quite good. And of course, there is no illegal builds. :)

It also has the right scale compared to my executor.

At the moment, there are many odd colors. In the future, it will be LBG only.

I think it looks quite good and some color variation is nice. Starships are seldom one color. To make the difference less severe, perhaps regular grey and bley.

Does an illegal connection even count as a non-purist technique? I was under the impression that a purist build simply used on non-modified LEGO parts.

Everybody can have his own definition.

As far I'm concerned :

- no modified parts

- no glue

- no illegal builds

- no old colors such as light gray or dark gray (sometime I make exception, but it is very rare)

- no old parts such as hinge 4275 or 4276 (these parts are not used anymore in today's sets)

I see...

So your view of 'Purist' is something that could meet the strength and manufacturing requirements of current LEGO sets?

Yes. That is exactly my goal when I build a MOC. :classic:

Okay. I assume clips and bars didn't work/was too fragile?

Yes, it is not very strong.

But the main problem was that I didn't even manage to join the 4 wings perfectly.

So, I concluded that I had to build my ISD in another way.

Well. Now, back to the Executor. It will be more interesting. sadique.gif

I think your version turned out perfect. The scale, and the angle of the slopes and wedges look to be better proportioned anyway. Great job! Cant wait to see the Executor!

Okay. I tried it out a few months back and got the wings to fit, but the assembly falls apart when you breathe on it. :cry_sad:

Making it a little bigger, this is the best I've ever been able to do, even with illegal connections:

We can't wait. :sweet:

Very nice model !

You captured the shape very well !

Thought, it is a little too big for my Executor.

I agree with everything but last 2 bullets. I think you are being too harsh on those discontinued parts. :p illegal? cmon now!
